^^ yea it may be how the preload was set because i talked to tein directly and heeltoe on the correct range for preload...and this flex setup is way more comfortable then the SS setup i was running before. even though one was new and one was old but still haha. i've talked to some others that just "threw on" the flex not paying attention to preload and all that and they said it rode pretty bad

i'm sure they're all good though! cant' go wrong with the SA

I wish you were local, although I'm not in the market for another suspension right now...I'd be curious.

Thanks everyone!

Had a reasonably productive weekend

I was able to take some time on Sunday to go ahead and install my Aspec rear lip! It was sitting, and I figured I might as well throw it on before something happens to it or it gets damaged (that brand new painted aspec lip sitting around the garage is just an accident waiting to happen). Nothing too exciting here; I mean don't get me wrong it looks awesome as usual, but I've done it about 5 times so it was anything too difficult

I also took the chance to go ahead and polish the exhaust tips while the bumper was off since they were just plain filthy. Not sure if they had ever been cleaned, but a little Bar Keeper's friend and a little elbow grease, they're looking awesome.

After that, I put the car back together and took it up to visit a friend to roll my rear fenders. He always tells me its best to roll the fenders early on, before suspension and all that is installed as it is easier to get a nice roll that way. Once the rear arm is pulled up with lowering suspension, the fender roller doesn't do as good of a job. I any event, since this TL is bone stock, he rolled them nice and flat for me as usual. This is the 5th TL he's done for me, and one of the few with zero body work, so it was a piece of cake.

Got a couple more little things done,

First, dropped my bumper off at the body shop to get painted, so hopefully that will go on the car this weekend or sometime thereafter.

Then I was able to get an appointment before it gets too busy to get my windows tinted. Went with 3M Color Stable (hint of blue) in 35% on the side windows and 20% on the rear. I absolutely LOVE it, just hope I don't get hassled too much by the cops. Oh well
Here are some before and after pics:

After that, I was able to swap out my spark plugs for new NGK's. Pretty easy job, luckily didn't run into any issues. This completes my "105k service." I do want to take some time and detail the shit out of the engine bay though.

looks great!! the tint makes it look like a new car. i still don't have any idea why people don't tint their cars, for function and aesthetics reasons!

Yup! I'm a huge fan of window tint!

J, I actually thought about waiting for a valve adjustment or for when I get my valve covers PC'd (wrinkle red maybe? ) I chose to just do it now because I'm not sure when I'll get around to that. I'm excited to try some things I've never done before on this car tho, particularly with the engine bay.

Engine bay/cleaning mods will be later on, after the exterior and interior stuff is mostly done with. Trying to prioritize! The mod money pool ain't what it used to be

Well, don't mod to the point that you put yourself in another position where you feel like you need to sell the car. I truly hope you hang onto this one~!

Placed my order for coilovers last night! Should be coming in sometime in April. I was browsing azine last night and realized it was the last day to take advantage of their 20% off tax season sale, so I placed my order for a set of Tein SA. I was debating on the FLEX, but I figured I'd get the SA and then splurge on new top hats. I've previously been very happy with those coilovers, on 4 different TLs

Also should be picking up my bumper from the shop today/tomorrow. Can't wait to see that new, WET KBP paint.

Got my "RHO PLATE" holder in the mail yesterday too. Waiting on new bumper clips and other small misc stuff.

Will likely also get window visors soon, as well as progress RSB and new Moog endlinks.

Things are moving along!

Bro...I love reading your updates. Fun to see us kinda on the same path with getting the cars back to perfect and then just really enjoying them.

My Tein SS are still riding superbly...can't say enough about the brand. I even bumped up height to 1" of threading showing and I am starting to wonder why I ever liked the car being slammed. Rides so nicely...also got some Michelin PSS mounted on the advan with tpms yesterday. Super happy!

I'm a HUGE fan of tint on any car, I really enjoy it haha so I'm biased. I say do it! In PA can't you go pretty dark?? Mine's illegal so now I'm constantly worried about getting pulled over.

I know right!! Funny seeing two identical cars getting fixed up and modded to slightly different tastes. Can't wait to see where we both end up! I bet not having TPMS is one thing you miss about the base tho! Its such a hassle for something I'll never use....and the sensors have doubled in price in the last couple years.

Excelerate emailed me saying it would be 3-4 weeks until the suspension is shipped. I'm pretty impatient. I'm debating on canceling the order and going elsewhere...It might cost a little more but I want to get it installed and get the car aligned I still have new tires and the Jpipe waiting to go on as well. Wanted to do all that at once!

no rush!

in florida, tint is a no brainer.
yeah, I agree...but clicking the stfu button on the tpms sensor warning didn't bother me that much, no worse than the stupid gps okay button. lucky 2 of my wheels came with the tpms in them.

see if heeltoe has them and would price match?

Sockr1, Can you by chance elaborate more on the Tein Flex? I spoke with XLR8 and may get those instead of the SA as they're available and ready to ship.

Not sure if I should switch it up, I'm used to the SA so was going to go with them, and I read about the fully threaded body and separate adjustments, etc. Just not sure if I should pull the trigger yet.

How much different is the install and how much more fine tuning did it take from you?

yea i can give you my thoughts. they are the best tein offers for our car. they are more expensive but they also include top hats for pure plug and play.

they are the best because no matter what height you set to, you'll always have the same preload. you can set the preload to whatever you want. on any other coilovers, as you go lower the preload changes since you're changing the spring compression, which makes a harsher ride the lower you go. with the flex no matter how low you go you can keep the same ride quality at whatever preload you want.

i have the dimensions to lock in the recommended preload measurement for front and rear from tein directly (i can give those to you if you go with the flex). i also got heeltoe's recommendation for more preload if you want to drive more aggressively. everything else is the same for installing. i talked to someone on here that said his flex was very poor ride quality but when i talked to him more he did way way too much preload and he didn't do it right. but if you get it dialed in the coilovers are pretty amazing.

i talked to a bunch of vendors, owners, and even tein to get my info and they said this is the best coilover for ride quality since mine is my DD. it's a no brainer to go with flex if you don't mind spending just a bit more to get it. i sold my oem top hats separately so i pretty much paid the same as if i had gotten the SA.

let me know if you have any more questions.

Sounds pretty good. The cost isn't that big of an issue for me since they're almost the same price in the end. I ordered mine from Excelerate, on the last day of their tax season sale with 20% off of SA and 25% off of FLEX. Josh agreed to offer me the tax season 35% off of the FLEX since , so that puts them only about 40-50$ more expensive than the SA.

I was just more worried about comfort and ride quality, as well as installation differences since i've literally only installed Tein SA coils ever hahaha. so Im guessing you set the preload by compressing the spring when you're installing them?

nice man! i got my flex from them for about 940 shipped which is still a great deal.

yea the preload is controlled by measuring the length of the spring from flat surface to flat surface. there's a threaded collar that you just move up and down to change the spring length

here directly from tein:
"The preload to the front spring would be 2 mm and the rear would be 1 mm of preload on the springs. To set the Spring Preload while the coilover is mounted on the vehicle would be to measure 198 mm from the rubber portion of the upper mount where the spring sits to the spring seat and that would be the 2 mm of preload that the front shocks would need. The rears would be the same measurement points but would be 249 mm measurement to get the 1 mm of preload."

i think heeltoe said they would do up to 6mm preload on the front when focused on track applications

Ah. It looks like I was mistaken. I was applying the discount wrong, the price difference is more like $330

I may just go with the SA. Not sure now...

you cant adjust flex with wheels on...
preload separate inherently have stiffer spring rates iirc...
i dont slam my car anymore so worsening ride quality when super low isnt a concern for me anymore...
those recent pics of mine are at the recommended 1" of threads showing and its amazing just how smoothly they ride...
although i got compliments from friends even when i was maxed

Not sure what you were going to pay for the SA with the discount previously...but I had ordered mine from THMotorsports and it was the cheapest around and they shipped lightning quick. For your '07 it'd be $587 shipped for the SA and $908 shipped for Flex.

^ I almost did that as well but I found out thm isn't recognized as an authorized tein dealer and you can run into warranty issues down the road if anything happens. Just my two cents.

Well, apparently the SA are nationally back ordered, so it would be the same story with anyone else, unless they have them sitting on a shelf somewhere. So I guess I may just have to wait it out since I don't feel like its worth the extra $350ish for the FLEX. I liked my SA well enough. Although I am still debating it.... Its just that the SA being under $600 shipped sounds like such a great deal to me.

Are you getting brand new top hats?
Do the FLEX have camber plates up top?

That might even out the additional cost to upgrade.

no camber plates on top. When I priced everything up, it ended up being only a little bit more for the FLEX and felt it was worth it.
