Prelude Transmissions??

Hey Guys. I have gone through 4 transmissions in 4 months with my CL-S so I am looking for some thing more reliable. I'm looking at Preludes, but I am not sure if the Prelude's Auto tranny has the same problems. Any one else have some wisdom to impart??? Thanks!

It's the torque of the V6 in the CL/TL that's tearing up the tranny. A 4 cylinder auto won't have any problems. For instance my 2.2 CL auto has 140K on it with 0 problems and I've owned it since it had 12K miles.

They only came with 5spd manuals, or at least thats what I've found. They seem to be pretty fun, reliable cars from what I've been reading.

If the fact that the tranny in my 99 Accord 4 cyl went south at the 39k mark is any indicator, I would be wary of a 5G Prelude's 4AT as well.

I think it was the Prelude that started the dreaded Honda bad tranny legacy. I know of 4 Prelude owners who had problems and issues with their 4ATs.

My friend has a prelude 5spd MT, and apparently they have a factory problem with second gear if I can remember correctly.

Well, looks like my search for a replacement car continues. They guy at the dealership wanted 13,000 for the 01 Prelude, and only offered me 8,000 for my CL-S. I knew he was gonna try and rape me on the trade-in, but 13k for a prelude? HELL NO!

the auto tranny from prelude(the one with manual shifting) has a lot of problems, it's better to change the ATF fluid more often to extend the life of the transmission

I wish it was me and not the car, that way I could do some thing about it (change driving habits).

I guess if Acura wouldn't replace the broken ones with even more shitty rebuilt ones I wouldn't have this problem. Oh well, at least the fact that they are acknowledging the flaws in the their transmission design is a plus.

A few more years and INFINITI G here i come! (for now something cheap would suffice)

Wow - 4 trannys in 4 months. That's crazy - were they used transmissions or did the dealer replace them with a factory unit?
