Question People with deposits.

For those of you that already have deposits down for a TL, I see in your sigs that you have already chosen color and options for your car. My questions:

How much did you have to put down?
Are you obligated to buy the car when it comes in?
Did you already negotiate the price of the car?
Where did you get color info?

Thanks,
-elbo

edit:
5 minutes after I posted this, my local dealer called me about a TSX on the lot. I told her I have chaged my mind to the TL, and she took care of my above questions. I told her I would only put a deposit down if she could lock in a price of invoice + $400. not.

- Some of us put $1000 down. I think there a few others who have deposited less.

- According to my dealer, I am not obligated to buy the car. My deposit is fully refundable. I was told that if I don't buy it someone else will.

- I believe all of us who have deposits are buying at MSRP.

- As far as color, we pretty much had our minds made up before color selections became available. I know a couple of people made changes based on the recently released information.

Hope that helps.

No, Fully refundable
Yes MSRP
Color was choosen from available info. Blue/ Quartz was my no. 1 pick and Silver / Ebony was 2. (I reaaally want to see some photos of the blue!!)
My salesman said the dealer ordered the cars based on deposits and choices. Since there was not much info, the deposit is fully refundable. However, I feel the dealer is ordering more to match what he wants and I will get first choice if what he orderd matches my request. I have waited for 2 years to buy my next car and am not in a big hurry.

On order 04 TL Abyss/Quartz 6MT

Deposit - $100
fully refundable
Not to exceed MSRP, negotiation will not occur until pricing comes in
Color - from this web site, then confirmed by dealer when allocation came in end of July.

$600
fully refundable
msrp
color names from this site, many exist on current acura/honda models so looked at those in dealerships.

i have an offer of msrp -200 from a local dealer recommended by someone on this board, so i may yet go with that. tempting though that is, i get an additional .25% loan rate discount with my credit union if i buy from their approved dealer (who is just offering msrp).

colors are interesting. one northern california chain of dealerships (tsan -- but they trade under local names) seems not to be getting anything with camel or parchment interiors in the first move. thus the promise a dealer trade if needed.

Deposit

I put down $500 fully refundable. The dealer says they have never kept a deposit from a customer who didn't buy a car. Put in an order for Abyss Blue/Camel. The dealer says that they submit that specific order to Acura America for me. I'm assuming MSRP.

Has anyone been able to confirm that the abyss blue models won't be available until November?

Also, I'm worried about my negotiating leverage on my trade-in since I have a deposit down. The dealer will know I'm pretty unlikely to walk once the car gets here, even if he tries to screw me on the trade in. angry: Any suggestions?:

I'd be prepared to walk if they offer much below wholesale for the trade-in. Also, try not to appear too excited after the test drive!

2k4tl,

Which dealer did you hook up with? I'm in the same area and looking for a dealer to put my deposit down with. Thanks!

I also live in the Bay Area...2k4Tl said TSAN (Ted Stevens Automotive Network). His Acura dealerships are in Los Gatos, Sunnyvale, Corte Madera, and Clovis. Anyone from the South Bay area try Stevens Creek Acura and know what they are charging?

Thanks for the info. I am in the South Bay as well. I can assume they will all be offering MSRP or around there. I am hoping cash will get me a better deal, yeah right! :'(

So much for the people who thought MSRP was the only game in town. Deflation...bring it on!

I tried calling my salesdude today to see if he'd match this for other forum members, but it's his day off. I'll call him tomorrow and see what he says. At a rough guess I imagine they might get 3-4 sales out of it so that may be a good bargaining chip.

stevens creek acura

what a bunch of jerks! First trip there i hadnt heard of the 04- they were pushing 03 tls, i asked if there was a new model in the works and they said NO!!

After I read about the 04 (here) a different salesman there acknowledged the 04, but wouldnt say anything about it and refused to admit any were inbound or there was a list of allocated cars. Of course I walked. The dealer in Redwood City on the other hand has been totally honest and responsive-- he has my deposit now!

If you are in the Bay Area, I would highly recommend Hopkins Acura in Redwood City. It's a small store, but they move a lot of cars and are great to work with. They don't play games with the pricing by adding dealer markup, or loading the car up with a bunch of options that you don't want.

So 2k4tl, are you not allowed to say which dealer? Im thinking that if I wait until January I can pay well below MSRP, but if a dealer near me is already offering that I am all game. However, I am reluctant to put a deposit until I can take a test drive etc...

Doubtful. Based on what we have read the 04TL is very impressive, and demand will likely meet or exceed the supply for at least several months. Of course that depends on the price, which we still don't know. The deposits are refundable, so you can get it back if you decide to not buy the car for any reason.

"well below MSRP" - dude, you're dreaming. how long has the TSX been out? i believe they are still going for sticker.

Ya, but 2k4tl says his dealer is giving 200 below msrp.

I've got the 04 TL on order (Anthracite/Quartz/Navigation). The dealer required $500 (fully refundable). The price is MSRP, but they have already agreed to forego all the rest of the dealer fees so that tax and title are the only charges. I figure that amounts to about $300 or so, and saves me the time of having to argue about all of those costs.

If anyone is seeing any dealers move off the MSRP, please post (I know one person already said $200 off)

My salesman says that they are indeed taking deposits, and that they are refundable, and that they're selling for MSRP. No biggus, I bought my '02 for MSRP and it's worth the money. He was honest in admitting he didn't know much about the new model, but at least knew there was a new model. (This was at the end of August, so the dealership may have participated in a R & D by now, though.)

I am on the fence about a deposit. I like the new car, and plan to test drive it, and will probably buy it on features alone, but I'm not in THAT much of a hurry to get it that I'll put a deposit down without a test drive.

Or for that matter without knowing the MSRP.

A few extra weeks of waiting is no biggie. Besides it's less awkward to walk should the need arise.

Sorry for the cloak and dagger folks. I'm trying to get salesguy to commit to offering this price to any one on this board who comes to him looking for it. I want to wait until he agrees as in another board I've seen users and salesfolks get burned by the information being posted publicly. That said, he has said he would honour msrp -200 for 'co-workers' i refer to him. To answer a legitimate question in advance, I am not being offered any financial gain for referring people.

As soon as I know for sure about his offer, I'll post the info.

One last thing, this salesguy comes from a dealership that seems to have rated poorly on mdx boards as well as on this board, thus I'm not entirely confident that he will actually honour an offered price.

TRUE. That's truly the $35,000 (or is it $34,000?) question. We'll know on 6 October, I guess.

There is no way this car is starting at $35K. I'd like to think:

$31,500 for the 5 AT. Maybe $32,500
$33,500 for 6MT w/o Navi
$33,500 or $34,500 for AT with Navi
$35,500 for 6MT with Navi.

We'll know soon!

I suppose it's conceivable we could know MSRP the week after next.

It's hard to believe that it's been almost two weeks since we we sat by our screens waiting for the official photos and specs from Acura.

I just put a $500 fully refundable deposit on a satin silver metallic with quartz interior and the navigation system at MSRP. The navi was a splurge, but heck, I'm worth it!

I'm doing business with Montano Acura in Albuquerque. Very good salesman who doesn't play any games.

Congrats, did you opt for AT or 6MT. did the dealer give you a delivery date? Any other details?

I opted for the 5AT. The dealer will get build dates this week. All he would say right now is sometime in October.

That is damn optimistic if you think it will be that low.

Odds are 5AT with Nav will be $36,100 (includes shipping). That means with TTL and warranty about $40K OTD. Which is one of the reason I went ahead and spent $2k more and got a '04 Vette until Acura works out the kinks and gets the option packages straightend out. In 2 years I will revisit buying a TL.

I received a build date of 9/30 - 10/4 for my 5AT Desert Mist Metallic/Parchment/Navi. Dealer expected delivery around the 18th of October.

Wow, that is great news. I hope to hear something soon from my dealer. When did you put your deposit down? Did they give you information pertaining to VIN number? What area are you in?

Yeah, it is quite optimistic. I suppose it will be $33K to start, and about where you anticipate pricing for Navi. It will be interesting to see pricing for the 6MT.

Nope, no VIN number yet. I expect that closer to build date. This is a Texas dealer.

I also reminded dealer to send a brochure when they come in. I believe Justin had mentioned they were to arrive this week, but they haven't rec'd anything yet.

My dealer said to expect mine around 10/17. He didn't give me information pertaining to build dates. I'm going to be in his area next week, so I may stop by to see if he has anymore specifics.
