^^ That would work out way better, let me know when you make the switch, if you want we can do an even trade for the AEM CAI that I have for your air box. My advice would be to just switch the cone air filter with a new K&N one.

Since the car is off of the road for the time being I intend on treating the interior with leatherique, that stuff.

BTW, the valve cover gasket seem to be perished as there is some oil weeping going on around it, I found a DIY for valve adjustment, might tackle that over the next few weeks and also replace the gasket at the same time.

An even better VA write up if it helps
Rob Robinette VA

I did mine yesterday (3rd time) and it took a solid 2 hours from hood open to hood closed

If you aren't on S2Ki get on yesterday as it is just like AZ in terms of DIY assistance

Agree. The DIYs there are impeccable. I was able to take apart the inside of my S by going through multiple DIYs. I'm sure that with enough time, I could tackle a valve replacement.

We really live in amazing times. I'm glad that we have these resources at hand.

Admittedly, I'd save a lot of time and money if I didn't know all about the mods and DIYs out there. But I'm happier as a result

Having videos and pictures to document how to do things is just like having someone right there showing you the ropes. Almost.

Put up an ad on CG for the CF parts trade, got a few people interested in doing the swap. I know the parts go for a couple of grand retail but my intent is not to make money off of it. I'd be happy as a clam if I could come out of the trade with all OEM parts. Ideally i'd like AP2 front bumper but i'd be content with AP1 as well.

Someone with a silverstone AP1 is suppose to come by tomorrow to inspect everything and see if we could do the swap this upcoming week, I am excited to say the least .

I have been on S2ki, very resourceful site indeed but still takes a bit getting use to, especially when looking for relevant information.

A couple of questions for you guys

1) Where do I get OEM floor mats from? Dealer? whats the deal with the ones offered by ricks s2k?
2) The convertible top is in decent condition, any preventative measures I can take to make sure it stays that way? May be rejuvenate it somehow?
3) Still trying to figure out how to replace the rear window and with what? OEM plastic window or the glass one?
4) The engine bay is untidy, thanks to the CF parts letting in all the dirt/grime etc, any DIY on how I can wash the bay or clean it up to at least look presentable?

thanks for the help in advance.

1: I cheaped out and got off-brand pure black floormats off Amazon. They cost $50 and you can definitely tell the quality difference, there's already a wear spot forming where heels dig in from the clutch & gas but anything was better than my OEM ones that came with the car

I haven't even heard of Rick's floormats until you mentioned them:

http://www.ricks2k.com/products/carpets.php

Looks pretty high quality and for $179 per set, I'd imagine OEM would be around the same price.

2: I've heard of people using various top conditioners for sun protection. I bought some 303 cleaner & conditioner - I have yet to try it out, I'll report back with some feedback soon

Amazon.com: 303 Products 30520 Convertible Fabric Top Cleaning and Care Kit: Automotive Amazon.com: 303 Products 30520 Convertible Fabric Top Cleaning and Care Kit: Automotive

3: OEM glass would be my choice.

4: From what I've experienced with this, any engine degreaser will do fine as long as you let it sit for 10-15 minutes and lightly spray the oil & debris off the engine with a pressure washer or hose.

Side note: Make sure you cover up your fuse box, battery, and alternator.

I bought a set of Rick's wool carpets (the REALLY fancy ones) in Navy for my S2000.

And wow, expensive but luxurious. My wife loves them. I use the factory ones for the rainy season though.

I'm thinking of getting the weather tech ones. It's like 100 bucks and they actually look very good in person.

Organized a local meetup on S2ki and had a pretty good turnout! There were about 14 cars total and we enjoyed some delicious ramen

11 x S2000s
1 x Evo 9 MR
1 x Civic SI
1 x Z06

Completely washed, waxed and did vinyl/plastic cleaning/detailing. Everything that was greyish is now black. The car SHINES inside and out.

New cabin filter, changed the oil. Fixed the interior lights, which weren't coming on when the doors opened, found carbon on the contacts. S2Ki of course had a complete DYI. Took me 5 minutes

These are the mats that came out on ebay a while ago, no longer available though.

http://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/1008...ed-floor-mats/
The issue that most people are having is the extension going over the hump in the floor. You have to use heat gun etc to make it fit a bit better. Rick’s mats are made out of couple of pieces of carpet hence they fit way better over the hump. Stock mats are $10 or so more than rick’s, hence is the reason why I ended up getting rick’s.

Issue I have right now is a cut in the clear plastic rear, after doing some research it turns out that the best way to fix that is just to replace the OEM soft top The soft top on my S is fine, I hate that I’d have to replace it just to get the window fixed.

My search for OEM parts is coming up short, lots of tire kickers but no one has come through with the trade. I may have to suck it up and replace the parts out of pocket and then try to sell these, the good thing about that is that I can opt for OEM replacement parts from AP2, freshly painted and matched to my liking.

I would have gotten those as well but Rick doesnt stock them any more, or at least for the time being.

Also, found a set of AP2 headlights at a reasonable price, they will be on their way shortly.

Interior and trunk is getting gutted tomorrow to have all the carpet, seats, interior panels treated.

Honda sells just the plastic window area of the early soft tops. I paid around $200 for mine from www.estore.honda.com. The part number is 86317-S2A-003.

Thanks

Did some work yesterday to the S

-- Removed the front bumper, hood and fenders. I have a couple of potential buyers looking at the parts today and tomorrow, hopefully they'll end up either trading or buying the parts.

-- Started making a list of what I need in order to bring the front end back to stock condition
- Front bumper beam
- Inner lining for both wheel arches.
- Front bumper splash guard tray, i think there are two.
- Clear CR turn signals for fenders.
- A whole bunch of clips and bolts for the lining etc.

-- Also, I thought I had a leaky head gasket but after doing some research it turns out that many S2ks have a the same issue of oil seeping around the timing chain compartment due to lack of enough sealant between the head and the block.

http://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/8987...t-head-gasket/

a good news I guess, as this will save me the hassle of trying replace the head gasket, which is what I initially thought needed to be replaced.

Here is how the car sits in the cluttered garage.

I've seen a couple of S2Ks out so far here in Chicago when we had actually spring-like weather.

Makes me want to get one!

These cars are really that good, I promise you.

I went to the Honda dealership and as I parked, I had 1 salesman & 1 customer walk up to me and ask if my car was for sale .

I respectfully declined and it later came to me that for the first time ever, I didn't want to sell my car even if it was for a few grand more than what I paid for it.

tell him to post it autotrader, it will be gone in 1 day.

I would totally consider it if it was a Westcoast car.

According to CarFax first owner bought the car in Sacramento, CA in August '06. In 2007 he/she moved the car to Florida. Second owner bought the car from a dealership in Alabama in 2009 and had it for a year before the car was bought and registered in MA in 2010. He bought it from the owner in MA back in July 2012.

He does have a lien on the car and is a bit apprehensive towards the idea with dealing with private part, not sure why

Update 4/5/2014

-- All CF parts are sold/traded

Yesterday was a busy/expensive day

Here is a list of things that were bought

- AP2 Front bumper
- AP2 hood
- AP2 fender liners
- CR clear corners
- After market clear diffusers for AP2 headlights
- AP2 headlights
- AP2 hood insulator
- AP2 bumper grille
- License plate holder
- AP2 bumper supporting beam and impact foam
- Set of cover that goes below the radiator/bumper
- All the labels and emblems
- All new push pins/mounting pins etc for fender liner, hood, bumper etc.
- AP2 headlight components, HID ballasts etc
- Front bumper under body spoiler.
- Plethora of all the missing bolts, push pins, plugs, etc etc

Most of the above mentioned parts were bought directly from Honda beside the used AP2 headlights and headlight components.

The front CF fenders got traded with someone with a rio yellow pearl S2k.

Once all the parts are in the car is getting towed to the painter. I am having the whole car blended once all the components are painted. I am installing the body parts etc myself so the car will be getting towed back to my house once paint is completed.

Total expense right now is hovering around the $1k mark, after taking out the yield from sale/trade of CF parts.

JnC, excellent work! I'm really excited to see what you have planned for it

I just got back from C&C and my love for the S2k has grown even more. I really should have gotten one when I had the chance

I simply couldn't take it anymore. I pulled my S2000 out of storage today, finished the hard part of my marathon audio deconstruction/reconstruction, and dammit, I went for a top down spin tonight. It was 36 degrees but I did not GAF.

Gorgeous sundown here in Cleveland tonight, and I made sure I hit VTEC as often as possible for my first drive since November 8th.

Did I say I didn't GAF about the cold? That's what the heater's for!

As for my audio project....what a bear. The guy who installed the iPod port and satellite setup in my S ran wires back to the glove box. I therefore had to tear apart the center console, rear panels, and just enough of the glove box to wiggle the wiring out of the glove box.

Then I had to pull the USA-SPEC device out of the depths of the center console. Then I had to pull the wiring connecting the USA-SPEC to the radio. All this took about four hours over three days the last two weeks because I am a noob.

Easy part came today. In addition to the Alpine CDE-SXM145BT I installed, I bought and installed an Alpine KTP-445A amp. This is plug and play and is compatible with the Modifry PnP Alpine adapter. Broke my passenger side dash panel cover but that part costs $9 to replace,no biggus. The amp fits nicely in the space under that cover and on my shakedown cruise today, it did not rattle or fall out of place.

Now the stock speakers have tremendous sound with distortion only at high volumes.

I also have a set of shallow 3-way speakers for the front doors, but that's an easy install for tomorrow.

Yeah, I found the stock speakers to actually be quite good with a proper headunit. They don't handle high volume or a large amount of bass, but for more 'normal' listening they're probably good enough for most people.

Had some fun with Misty this wknd. I installed my coilovers last weekend and took the lady for a ride. To my surprise she mentioned how smooth the ride was without me even asking I also got the windows tinted and changed the cabin air filter. And of course the obligatory questions I get asked when seen. "Is that a Honda"? "Is it new?"

Got back from Chuckwalla Valley Raceway last night at around 9pm, what an experience. It was great meeting JS + BRZ and vwong and the rest of the FT86 club, very nice fellas. And yes, in case you're wondering .. his car really is that 4x4 in real life

I will say, if you're debating on going to the track and have never been before - do it. You learn so much about car control and watching other driver's lines. It made me realize that power isn't everything and every car needs a proper tire setup & good brakes - JS+BRZ was consistently 10 seconds quicker per lap than I was

I might add, proper maintenance is key! I spent about $450 in prep work so the car had all fresh fluids and a few wear and tear items replaced - despite spinning off the track once there was no mechanical failures, burning smells, 0 oil burned after 4 x 10-12 minute heats. The steering wheel is a little crooked after going off the track sideways, but I'm sure it's a quick fix. Honda reliability ftw, turned over 122,000 miles on the drive home

Have you ever tried Summit Point? I have been there a few times as a spectator but never wanted to take my daily there and risk breaking something.

I've yet to get to VIR. I do want to do that at some point.

I've been to summit point kart, and also did a few laps of their smaller circuit as part of a ferrari driving experience

I'm not going to a real track day until I have a separate car to take to the track. I've put too much effort and money into prepping my S2k for autox duty to risk something happening, especially now that I've got it handling really really well. I'm also 6'3 and am not going to the track in a convertible without a roll bar (which I'm not putting in this car for weight reasons). I'll make it out at some point though.
