Welp, the S2000 had it's very first issue. On Friday night we were going out for date night and took the S2k for it's last ride of the season. Got most of the way to the restaurant and started seeing smoke (later determined to be steam) coming from the engine bay. Pulled over into parking lot ASAP and shut motor off. Opened hood to see that the "smoke" was steam billowing from the cooling system and coolant sprayed all over the engine bay. Temp gauge was solidly in the middle the whole time but I was a bit nervous about possible engine damage so I immediately had it towed to the local dealership that I actually trust. They called today and said that some rodent (hope this motherfucker died from drinking coolant) chewed through the coolant return line and engine is totally fine, whew. $350 for new hose, install, new coolant, flush, and bleed and we're back in business.
Before I get shit for taking it to dealership vs DIY, it's FAR too cold here to be crawling under a car to fix a coolant leak. $350 is easily worth it to me for someone else to deal with it rather than me freezing my ass off fixing this thing.
But really... It'll probably be back. If you winter store it at the same place it's been, take extra care in winterizing this year because he knows where to get a meal and will fuck your world up. Wiring harness insulation will be next.

Yes it gets stored in the same place in my garage at home. I'm going to put traps around the car this time. The weird part is that I drove it all summer and had no issues so I'm guessing it chewed through over the summer and not the winter?
Edit: ok I just saw the comment about weather and what not... I'm willing to give this one a pass
But then again.. if it's that cold out, why is the S even out?!
It wasn't that cold on Friday, like upper 40'sF. The high this weekend is like 27F so it's time to hibernate.

Good. Though that one MF'er is dead, there are always more. Will kill them all too. I'll just leave a bucket of coolant sitting out lol. Just as long as my dog stays away it'll be fine.
Damn Sam...
Ironic...the S2000 was the only one in my fleet with a CEL right now...Evap related.
I broke out this new hybrid car wax spray wax...I was amazed at how well the paint liked it.
Naw...worded that weird, sorry.
It IS the only one of my cars with a CEL.
Also, cruise control stopped working on the drive across the state...I had noticed this white little piece of shit on the floor but figured it was Z's toy or something...
turns out it's the nub that allows the car to engage Cruise. Ordered it...$5.
I installed Billman's GenX TCT. The process was easy, install was simple and I got my core return quickly. No issues here. Highly recommend.
I also had to replace the VTEC oil pressure sensor switch. I broke it while changing my oil and did not notice the wire hanging until the car would no longer go into VTEC. $70 part--make sure to re-use the O-Ring.
Other than that, no issues. Had the car in Tampa, FL earlier this summer, plus made it to the S2KI Spring Fling in NY. She's up to 134K now and still going strong.
A Black AP2 with Amuse front bumper and 17" concave TE37 almost literally broke my neck this morning.... I had to turn so hard to look at it... I dont even do that to Exotics...
I just crossed over to 141K...
Nice, Dave...glad you never gave up on it and are still enjoying it! How's the DD these days? How's L?
I am loving the DD (G37xS). Lowered it last Spring and slapped 20mm spacers on for this result:
Unfortunately, I just took them off for my Winter tire setup last weekend!
L is da bomb! A friend of hers was selling his 93 Miata. She had been eyeing that car up for quite some time now. The guy's wife has health issues and they bought an RV to travel while she still can, so the little car had to go. Once we get it fixed up and pretty, I'll post up pics of the "hairdresser" car. One thing I noticed when I was in it---a rollover would be fatal in that damned thing!
that shift knob looks like your nutsack.
don't ask me how I know.
Awesome, Dave...damn G looks sexy as shit...that's not a shock though, you know your way around making a car look cool.
Glad to hear all is well! Tell L I say hello and enjoy that Miata in great health!
