I don't have enough money or own enough cars to drive them SO infrequently to treat them as museum pieces.
That's like having a 12 incher and deciding celibacy is a good idea. Cars are built to be driven, how can you fully appreciate them, if you don't get in them and feel them and drive them and enjoy them.

True that...lucky us! hahaha...
Either way...to see a car in motion is where I really get excited. So nice, standing still...but it's a real treat to see it rolling.
I Daily it now. Im not discounting its longevity as I know several people that are in the 200's and I've seen a few 300k cars.
My plan was to always buy another car once the S was paid off. My dilemma will come at that time because it will no longer have daily duties.. but it wont exactly be a spring chicken anymore.
I average 40-50k miles a year on my cars. Im not a weekend warrior.

Again, you already have the car so what you do with it is really not as big of a deal. If you were looking for a new one then I'd tell you to get an older/high mileage one if you were going to mod the hell out of it or a low mile, pristine one if you were going to leave it stock-ish.
At this point it probably doesn't make a difference for you. You won't reduce the value of your car by modding it like you would with a 30k mile 2004-05 one. As soon as you start modding something like that, the value tanks.

I'll be shocked if they sell that for anywhere close to the asking price.

Learn from the dumb rockstar...listen to Jin.
I disagree about devaluation on a car due to modding though. I think it limits your target audience, but if you mod it right, and don't neglect the maintenance and upkeep the paint...I am fairly certain you could ask nearly the same cash and find a buyer. Might have to be a little more patient...
Then again, that $40K one is an example of the opposite of what I'm saying...not modded, over-priced...probably a very limited market for that one as well.
For 40...I'll hold out for an NSX.

You can always stock it out and sell it. Everyone does that without any problems.

But I know what your point is. I just like dragging the discussion for no reason, you know that.
), light weight lug nuts, some stick on vents, high temp blinker fluid, fully synthetic headlight coolant, etc. You know...that sort of thing.
My wheels, suspension and exhaust will all be sold separately IF I ever decide to sell my S.
The parts are desirable to a pretty large target buyer , but im no dummy, I know what I looked for when I bought my car haha.

I've passed on a few vehicles because I had a suspicion they were modded and subsequently 'beat on' and the owner wasn't upfront with me regarding the vehicle history. I'd rather someone disclose its history and leisure time activities (autocross, track, canyon runs, drift events, drag races, etc.) to graphic detail than someone try to pull the wool over my eyes [a quick forum search reveals lots anyways].
90% of buyers won't know or won't care either way on out of sight/sound out of mind mods but there is a small group of 'enthusiasts' that'll notice and worry about mods & market value. So - I don't mind that it was modded, be upfront and I'll knock a fair % off my offer to account for increased useful life wear & tear and we both go home happy.
^ For most cars that's true but people looking for a bone stock, never modded S2000 are usually willing to pay more for the honor (myself included).
I'm not talking about light mods though, I'm talking about putting aggressive front splitters, rear diffusers, big GT wings, stiff coilovers, etc... Those are the things that really lower the value unless you find that one specific guy who wants it that way. Either way, you're not going to get the same price as you would if you had a stock, never abused example.

My car's sales listing will have this:
"Selling my bone stock BRZ. Low Mileage. Very clean. Never modded. Never tracked. Never been to the canyons. Only has LEDs in the turn signal, hope that's okay!"

I agree but apparently they are selling at those prices (which amazes me too) if it seems that everyone is doing it.
Makes me think about putting mine up for $25k and seeing what happens.

The prices are going up pretty steadily over the past few years. So are OEM parts. I wish I had bought up OEM hard tops when they were going for $1500~$2000.
I have a standing offer from a guy in Atlanta for $35k for my '08. I told him he's nuts and that the car isn't worth it.

bump.
Finally got to take the S out today, it's been raining pretty much all week so the car has been sleeping in the garage the whole time.
Oh what a difference it is to go from driving an old Yukon to the S2000.

I parked mine, TL needed to be driven a bit...
I patched the cracks in the top too...they seem to be springing up every few months of UV exposure. Gonna need to think about replacing top in the next year.
Stock? I think $1200-ish.
There are GOOD aftermarket ones. A friend of mine got a Robbins cloth top that's higher quality thank stock for $400. It also keeps out the wind noise better.
I'm going to grab one as well this fall, mine is starting to tear.
