Call me , but it seems awfully suspicious that all these problems (pipeline shut down, power failure, maintenance issues, refinery fires, etc.) are all happening at about the same time.

What does the Challenger average in real world use?

Just spoke to my Mom. She paid 4.069 on her Prius @ the Culver City Costco for regular, said it was 4.269 premium.

With all my mods and everything....I average about 18-20mpg for just freeway use....closer to 16mpg for mixed driving/traffic.

Its still better than my jeep....and even with premium costs about the same to fill up.

Prius is about $40 to fill...usually get about 380 miles a tank...not overly impressed with it to be honest as far as gas savings go (not the real reason I leased it)...I'm VERY interested in replacing it with something diesel next year.

I just fdownloaded a cool MPG iPhone app after watching Fifth Gear last night. It's FREE and it's called Road Trip Lite. It's not rocket science calulating MPGs but still a pretty cool handy app.

That is not bad for the Challenger.

The Prius has a 10 gallon tank? The Z gets about 20/25 which is great compared to the 9/13 the 80 Series Land Cruiser gets.

I have been using Gas Cubby for several years. It is nice to see graphical MPG data.

Sadly, yes, the state of Kalifornia has a big part of the blame in this.

Never allowing more refineries to be built.
Ludicrous CARB standards for Kalifornia specific formulated gasoline.
Highest gasoline taxes in the nation.

All a recipe for kicking the driver in the @ss.

That is what drives me crazy. A week or so ago 25 minutes after I filled up it had gone up 6 or so cents, not that that is almost .30.

I was surprised with 4.81 this morning. Station is usually one of the more reasonably priced ones in the area.

Skyrocketing gasoline prices caused some local service stations to shut off their pumps Thursday while others shocked customers with overnight price increases of 30 cents or more.
http://www.latimes.com/business/la-f...,2326954.story

I've seen plenty of gas stations with prices north of $5/gal.

Kalifornia's piss poor energy and tax policy is coming back to bite the citizens in the @ss.

^ I've seen it at the large truck stops around the Nashville area, but not at the regular non-highway stations. I'm just amazed at the $5+ per gallon price.

Last night I paid $4.95/g for 91 .. $79.95 to fill up

Recently I've arranged carpooling with a co-worker and it cuts my weekly mileage nearly in half ...

Good thing I filled up before the price jump today.

I don't follow diesel prices but it looks like it hasn't been affected by this surge of gas prices.

It's $4.49 Diesel #2 vs $4.59 for Regular 87.

This seems to be a common practice here in the Houston area too, especially with Chevron and Citgo.

The lowest price for premium near me is usually sold by a Valero station about 5 miles from my house.

Pretty common, for a while now, around here at various stations. Not all stations, but there are a lot. Just another way to gouge the shit out of mr. consumer.

haah keep in mind that diesel is not always lower than regular, it can go above premium too. It fluctuates differently from gas.

california hit a record today... woot woot

California’s average gasoline price set a record Saturday of $4.614 for a gallon of regular, up 12.8 cents overnight – but anyone who filled up in the last few days probably isn’t surprised.

Gasoline prices skyrocketed after the Exxon Mobil refinery in Torrance was knocked offline Monday by a power outage. Other lingering refinery and pipeline problems also contributed to the soaring costs at the pump.

Several service stations are charging more than $5 a gallon for regular gasoline. Some have stopped selling gas because they don’t want to pay the high wholesale price, which reached a record Thursday but eased somewhat on Friday.

Why are gas prices so high?

Saturday’s record, as measured by AAA’s daily fuel price survey, replaces the old record of $4.610 set in 2008. If it’s any comfort, and it probably isn’t, that's only a nominal record because when adjusted for inflation, the old record equals $4.93 in 2012 dollars.

Analysts say prices might begin leveling off next week as fuel traders digest the news that the Exxon refinery returned to service on Friday. But other refinery difficulties and maintenance could keep California’s prices significantly above those in other parts of the nation.

Around the state, Los Angeles drivers were paying an average $4.661, Orange County’s average was $4.650 and San Francisco was at $4.689
