Department of Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said that "no one knows" if gasoline prices in the United States will reach $9 per gallon, and acknowledged that the possibility is outside his control.

"I don't think anyone can speculate what will happen with respect to oil prices and gas prices because they are set on the global economy," Salazar told reporters when asked if gas prices could reach $9 per gallon, as they have been in Greece. "Where it will all end, no one knows.

He explained that "what we see happening today are the influences first of unrest in places like the Middle East and Iran, which disrupt the markets and allow the futures markets to play on some of what they see [in] the unrest around the world; and secondly the huge demand that you've started seeing in places like China, India and Brazil."

Salazar touted President Obama's "all of the above" energy policy and the prospect of renewable energy, but warned that "we do not control the price of oil."

$4.19 for regular on Thursday. $4.35 the next day. WTF?

http://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local...151160295.html

Gas price prognosticators have a warming message for California drivers.

"Prepare to get clobbered," Patrick DeHaan, an analyst with GasBuddy.com, told the San Jose Mercury News.

Wholesale gas prices in California are 70 cents higher than in other parts of the country, according to the newspaper. Motorists last week received an unwelcome surprise when they saw prices jump 16 cents in a day, a spike caused by the rarity of California's mandated cleaner-burning gasoline blend, the newspaper reported.

Refinery problems on the West Coast mean our gas prices are higher than on the East Coast, which burns a different blend and isn't hooked into the same problem refineries, the newspaper reported.

The gas supply is at its lowest level in 20 years, DeHaan told the newspaper.

Prices could rise as much as 20 cents higher over the weekend thanks to the much higher wholesale price on the New York Mercantile Exchange, the newspaper reported.

The California average for a galllon of regular unleaded is currently $4.23, the newspaper reported. The national average is $3.74.

Bloomberg News reported that Phillips 66, Royal Dutch Shell and Tesoro are working to repair refinery units at three out of the five refineries in the Bay Area. BP's Cherry Point refinery in Washington state is also out of service, "but could restart production early next week," the newspaper reported.

$4.53 @ Chevron for premium last week in the G. My wife had a .10 discount from Safeway as I drove up, I saw a line longer than Costco no thanks.

I thought there was a refinery issue or some excuse in CA?

4.03-.4.07 Cash price for 87 here, because of this stupid fire at the refinery.

I find some of these stations weird. At Shell they have 4.07 cash 4.15 credit/debit

well some of the pumps are set for the cash price and some are set for the credit/debit price.

$4.20 per gallon of premium @ the Marina del Rey Costco today.

Refinery fire @ Chevron facility in Richmond, CA supposedly decreased gasoline refining capacity to an unknown degree (it makes up about 10% of the US refinery capacity in the West, but restarted operation within a couple of days of the fire), which resulted in retailers marking up prices immediately.

Imagine all the money that has been gouged out of Americans by the oil companies, speculators, and the retailers.

Gas prices hit late-summer record

You may be paying more than ever for a late-summer drive.

U.S. drivers are paying an average of $3.72 per gallon on Monday. That's the highest price ever on this date, according to auto club AAA, a shade above the $3.717 average on Aug. 20, 2008. A year ago, the average was $3.578.

More daily highs are likely over the next few weeks. The national average could increase to $3.75 per gallon by Labor Day, said Tom Kloza, chief oil analyst at Oil Price Information Service. By comparison, gas prices stayed below $3.70 in late August and early September in both 2008 and 2011. Kloza and other analysts expect prices to start dropping after Labor Day, barring a hurricane or other unforeseen event.

Retail gasoline prices have risen nearly 12 percent since July 1 because of higher oil prices, and problems with refineries and pipelines that created temporary supply shortages in some regions. An increase in the price of ethanol, which is blended into gasoline, also contributed to the rise in pump prices.

^^ Must be big oil manipulating the price of gasoline.

Now in all seriousness, do you really not know why gas is cheaper in Nevada?
