And they did. For a number of years, Ferrari's best could not catch the cars from the Ford racing stable, and this is the car that started it all.

I thought it was the GT40 that earned Ford it's respect in the euro races???

Yeah that's definitely not a Shelby Cobra, it's a Daytona coupe.

I think the 40s were known more for their Le Mans victories, the Cobra Coupes also raced at such tracks as Goodwood, Nurburgring, and Reims.

I remember seeing old photographs of these cars when I was a kid and being completely mesmerized.

Actually, the Shelby Cobra Coupe never received it's "Daytona" moniker until the first car raced in the Daytona 2000 km.

Although I respect them, cars from that era (60s) really don't float my boat. I'm an 80s guy and at the likes of the Buick GN, Porsche 959 and C4 ZR1.

Hawt. I wish I were a multimillionaire so I could get in on that.

They'd better be showing that particular Mecum auction on TV (Discovery HD), I'll be watching that.

You aren't just buying a car, you are buying a piece of history.

I realize that. The cars are, however, still correctly categorized to as a "Shelby Cobra". Most collectors and enthusiasts refer to them as a "Shelby Cobra Coupe", or in some instances, "Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe".

I love the following photographs. She's parked outside of the Plaza Hotel in New York. The bellmen and passerby alike pose and take photographs of her.

I'm pretty sure the kit car I mentioned above is a Factory Five car. Not 100% sure, but fairly confident.

I've thought about getting one of these for the last few years. I'm leaning very heavily towards it.

That is a work of art. Absolutely beautiful. I'd be scared to death if I drove it.

Hell, can you insure something like that? I know there is special insurance for real classics, but for 10 - 15 Million, I don't think it's insurable for road use.
