Anyone know anything about the quality, etc compared to BMW or Acura?

Those are some ugly rims. My wife's best friend bought the same car brand new back in 2009. She scratched her fender one time and it cost her like $5k to fix it up or something. I was like WTF.
But the car looks and was FAST on the freeway. I actually got a speeding ticket in that car.

I think the wheels look great on the car. I bet that is sweet to drive. Must be comfortable and not to mention hot as hell.

I know what rims they are, I just like other stylings better on the car. I personally love the stock AMG rims on all Mercedes models.
But yeah, the car is freaking torquey as hell. The car doesn't even downshift, it just takes off. It's very comfortable, but the backseats suck. The headroom and legroom are terrible. I couldn't seat in the back for sure. Only midgets can seat in the back. Oh yeah, the gas mileage is horrible, but you gotta pay to play.

I like the wheels. I can't comment specifically on that model, but you can expect to pay much more for maintenance on that than you do on an Acura. It's the just the nature of a high performance lux vehicle. I made a very similar move to what you're contemplating, and I don't regret it. Good luck with your decision.

Chances are if you have no idea about a Mercedes Benz CLS550 AMG Sport package, you will not be able to afford the insurance or maintenance costs.

CLS 550 AMG? Shouldn't it be CLS 55 AMG
Nice. Mercedes Benzes are expensive to keep (like BMWs), especially when you are talking about a car that is one step down from the MB flagship sedan. Also, it's an '07 so little things are bound to pop up. Also, think about the replacement cost on one of those rims if one gets bent.
If it is carrying costs that concern you then steer clear of this beauty.

CLS 550 can be had with that AMG sport package I believe, which comes with that little badge in the back.

Absolutely gorgeous
I've driven both CLS550s and CLS55s and I love them. Pretty light steering and the seats are VERY comfortable.
I would be scared of maintenance costs since it's a Mercedes but I have no first hand experience with that.

The maintenance cost is VERY HIGH. I know it for a fact. Purchasing the car isn't that hard, keeping it going well for a long time is freaking hard.

Someday, an RS6 Avant+
About an inch too low for my taste. but a 400+ hp MB CLS would be nice...

99 TL, 06 E350
M-B are more reliable then BMW/Audi. Audi are the worst for maintainence. Be careful with this AMG, it's going to cost an arm/leg just to run it.

That's a nice looking car, but for the cost to maintain and upkeep, it had better be a CLS55 or CLS63 to be worth the effort.
My wife's cousin has a CLS55 that I've driven a few times and the thing is an absolute monster. The torque curve is just flat - like the plains of Kansas flat - and it just has endless pull from initial throttle tip-in to the top of 5th gear. I have never seen a car use fuel quite so quickly before though.

Not sure about the reliability being terrible. I had a 2006 CLK500 and it had WAY less issues than my 2000 TL did, matter of fact the only thing it was ever in the shop for after the warranty expired was for routine maintenance. Sold that car and now have a AMV8...been almost a year now with that car, and no repair costs other than scheduled and preventative maintenance - which I have done at a Indy shop that other AM owners have used (knock on wood)....this car also has had less issues than my 2000 TL did..
I feel like alot of people overhype the whole "costs alot to own" thing when they likely have had 0 experience owning the marque themselves...there are people who probably do get owned at the dealer, but they probably have 0 knowledge about cars.

How are they the worst exactly? I'm on my fifth Audi and they aren't ''worst'' than other brands.

I know not all German cars break down. I'm sure some of the cars are completely trouble free. My wife's A4 Avant has been fortunately trouble free so far. And we are most likely going to have at least 1 German car in the future as well since they just drive so well. BMW cars are certainly godly to drive. That's for sure.
But my ex-gf who I dated for almost 4 years had 4 different new MB models in her house: SL55 AMG, C55 AMG, S500, and CLK500 with couple Brabus parts. I swear they all had freaking electronic shit crapping on them. It's weird because all these cars were suffering from the similar problems. The cars were all new too. The regular maintenance service all cost a lot and half of the time, cars were in the dealership to deal with the problems that the dealership never could find. These things were covered by the dealership since they were obviously under the warranty, but I couldn't imagine how much $$ it would cost to have it running.
I don't know. I got paranoid about purchasing a MB after that. Just trying to say that I'm not bashing the MB cars for no reason.

Just wanted to add, a really important thing I have found in the past is to verify the cars service history. Call the original dealer the car was purchased from and make sure they car hasnt been in for much more than routine services...if the car has been in the shop for all type of different warranty work, you know to steer clear no matter what kind of deal you are getting.
A friend of mine ALMOST bought a 2010 E350 from a used car dealer...when I called the original dealer to check on the service history they told me they it had been repaired at their body shop twice...once during which the frame was repaired. Needless to say he didnt get that one....he ended buying a clean certified one from a dealer in Michigan...sight unseen, but also at a great price....

That said, while it may not "cost a lot to own" as that is subjective and a blanket statement, a German car is generally more to maintain then a Japanese. The 30k mile service in our M-B was almost double what it was when I had my TL-S. Labor rates are generally higher at the dealership as well. So there is some truth to the German's having a higher cost of ownership. But, most people know that when they buy one. If you're looking to cheap out, they can buy a Civic

why can't they make them like they used to damn it. My buddy has a 1993 300e and that thing has 450 000km, everything works, never had a problem in over 10 years of ownership, car still looks new, seats don't have a single wrinkle on them, pulls strong, no electrical issues, no oil burning, it's a freaking tank. Now days you pay 100 000$ for a benz and have to be scared if you'll be able to afford the maintenance.

I love the look of those cars. Totally riding dirty. BUT I'm 6' tall and there just is not enough head room in those cars. It's pretty much like owning a chop top. Still love the looks of it though.
And yes upkeep & maintenance will be expensive to say the least.

I'm 6' tall and I was totally fine with driving it. My head wasn't touching the ceiling. But I had to cut my head off to be comfortable in the backseat.
