The Mercedes CLS 550 looks very clean and is very good looking. My only critique is in regards to the aftermarket wheels. In my honest opinion, those wheels are in poor taste and don't match the luxuriousness of the Mercedes CLS automobile. I would warn the buyer that regular routine maintenance and repair costs will be very expensive. The buyer should be prepared for such expenses, otherwise it could be futile, figuratively speaking, to their bank account. I dearly appreciate the automobiles and sport packages that are produced by the AB Motorfabriken i Göteborg (AMG) group, such winning spirit. Westseite!

On the other hand, my friend's '07 with 80000 kms only had to get his PCV valve replaced.

No single person will ever encounter enough cars to gather a statistically significant sample size that would accurately depict a reliability comparison. All of the experiences in here attempting to depict an entire make's reliability are folly.
There are companies that research the rate of warranty repairs for each make/model over thousands to hundreds of thousands of cars. That is where your search for quality recommendation should lie.
The Wiki will always tell you.

why can't they make them like they used to damn it. My buddy has a 1993 300e and that thing has 450 000km, everything works, never had a problem in over 10 years of ownership, car still looks new, seats don't have a single wrinkle on them, pulls strong, no electrical issues, no oil burning, it's a freaking tank. Now days you pay 100 000$ for a benz and have to be scared if you'll be able to afford the maintenance.

Driving at rather high speeds for extended periods tends to result in increased strain on a vehicle and requires careful engineering. Mercedes-Benz has sought to engineer its vehicles, most notably the S-Class, to excel in this unique environment, allowing high speed cruising. Specific standards of engine performance, body integrity, and reliability are part of this process. For instance, the S-Class is built with an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph), which drivers can maintain when driving on the autobahn. AMG Manufaktur also offers delimitation or reset to 300 km/h (186 mph). Historically, the engineering of the S-Class has often occurred without regard to cost, a practice which continued unfettered up through the W140 line. The company in turn has been able to exploit this as a marketing tool, culminating in its onetime slogan, "engineered like no other car in the world." This slogan was used throughout the 1980s with the marketing of the W126 S-Class.
However, following the formation of DaimlerChrysler and the cessation of engineer-sanctioned overbudgeting in the late 1990s, this slogan was dropped; the subsequent W220 model S-Class also exhibited lower reliability and quality rates.[16]

For the record, my car has been pretty terrible lately. Throttle valve took a dump and the entire throttle body had to be replaced. Low-pressure fuel pump failed. An injector failed and the car had to be towed. Now I'm getting some surging at low RPMs under partial throttle that seems to be caused by misfires. First 30000 kms were trouble-free, but I'm sitting at 48000 now and it's been quite a ride...
On the other hand, my friend's '07 with 80000 kms only had to get his PCV valve replaced.

I don't mean to say that Audis are perfect cars, because they're not. I've been fairly vocal and have had my share of issues with the ones I've had, but nothing serious. Maybe I got lucky. But it is far from being branded as just unreliable compared to others. I won't start with how my Odyssey ownership was or with my old Tundra.
