Quote: I barely drive now too haha. And I think where ever I have an internship over the summer I'm going to trade cars with my dad if my commute is longer than his. I need this car to survive as long as humanely possible without throwing in money. Its only worth like 3k so I'm not gonna do work (like timing belt) if thats 1/3 of its cost. Especially when the tranny can go out at any minutes
As long as you're okay with the car being totaled if the timing belt goes then that's understandable. A timing belt and water pump would probably run you $700 at a shop. But that said, what if the transmission could do four more years?

Impossible. It's probably on it's second considering the context.

Why not just sell the car?

So, I have this friend thats possibly boosting his car and he wanted some input on boost gauges. <strike>I'd</strike> He'd like an AFR/Boost combo gauge to save space and make placement easier. The two options are:

PLX DM-6:

AEM Failsafe:

Prices are about the same. The PLX unit has two control boxes (one for boost and another for afr inputs). The PLX is easily expandable, you can daisy chain all the control boxes (fluid temp, pressure, blah blah blah is all available), but you need to find a place for them.

The AEM doesnt require control boxes, its all in the unit. But you'll only ever have boost and afr readings. I only have experience with the regular AEM UEGO gauge, which I liked. The refresh rate on it was pretty good too. The failsafe is compatible with many EMS', so if it sees a preset lean condition it'll trigger a safe map, which is pretty slick and can save an engine from possible catastrophe.

He's also open to other options as well.

My power steering also has a slow leak, which hopefully doesnt get bigger. Firestone said I'd need to change the whole rack&pinion? I'm not too sure, but thats also an expensive job. Brakes are warped. Axle/transmission has had some problem in it basically since I've had the car, although I know how to stop the problem from happening so it should be fine I think. I believe I have a bad wheel bearing as well. I think thats it. My radiator went bad in november so we replaced that for a couple hundred.

tbh i have no clue. I'd love to say no, but I wouldn't know. I dunno if my dad even knows. Wonder if there is a way to check online. If i had to guess.... I'd say no lol. I'm gonna get flamed for this lol

Cause we'd barely get any money out of it and it still works for now??

Yes but... if any of those aforementioned parts fail while driving - timing belt, brakes don't stop, loss of power steering, etc - could cause a crash and injury.

Sell car and look on Craigslist? After you check the missed encounters section, look for a reliable beater?

Depends if your friend is looking to expand. I think the PLX unit looks clean but the all-in-one of the AEM is nice.

http://mbworld.org/forums/mercedes-v...ml#post4572922

a friend recently got one, so far it's been a money pit.
Mmm, S65, one of my favorite Benzes.
I can't imagine owning one though. After seeing the maintenance costs on my grandmother's '07 S550 & '05 S430, I can't imagine a V12, much less an AMG.

I think for now it's still fine. Brakes are just warped they WOnt stop working. PS leak is small I refill like every 4 months or so. Timing belt I dunno really but if at any point the car does not feel safe I will get rid of it.

Did a driving school at laguna seca earlier this week. Was really impressed with the lexus ISF. If I wasn't so set on a ctsv it would be a good contender.

It was through skip barber. Two day class. Built upon some basics and then learned more about pushing the car through corners, etc.

Spent the entire second day doing laps in a 911, an IS-F, and a Mazda 3 turbo (surprised with the car overall). Got to push the cars as hard as I could without crashing. I felt I was doing well and then went out for a lap with one of the instructors and was blown away at how crappy I was.

The corkscrew is by far the most awesome part of the track.

Laguna Seca is one of my bucket list "will drive on one day" tracks.

Top of the list is, of course, the Nurburgring.

Guy in my neighborhood has a Panamera Turbo (or Turbo S) ... It's murdered out but looks pretty good.

The sad thing about it for the owner is that when he's not driving it, he's gotta choose between a 911 Turbo Cab or Cayenne Turbo.

I think he got rid of his RS4 Cab when he got the Panamera.

I've always hated the Panamera. It reminds me of the Accord Crossturd.

but I did see a Turbo near my work, dropped, flush (not hella) with concave wheels. looked quite nice.

I see a lot of them on the highway, still don't like them, same with the Cayenne, but both sell well for Porsche around here.

The Panamera has really grown on me. Plus, I respect the numbers it puts down.

And I want this, really, really bad.

Pretty much. The practice laps helped but when we were running at full speed and tbe instructor said floor it towards thr tree and don't forget to turn it was a little freaky the first time. Felt like a roller coaster.

I really like the 993. The fun and raw feeling of an air cooled 911, with the refinement of the newer ones.

Its actually a 964. The 993 had slightly swept back headlights and the weird bumper.

But 993 GT2? Fuck yes.
