Is it just me? It seems the front end on the i4 M50 does not bother me as much as it does on the regular M440i,,
And that is what GC will look like without having seeing the M440GC...

I mean BMW could have given it a different look....
With the exception of Tesla, i am sure all of the other EVs share many components except for engine obviously with other models in their line up. It does not make sense if they dont use the parts they can just find in the parts pin.

My guess is that it's that way because they are using parts from other cars in an effort to save cost. Tesla is designed from the ground up to use parts bespoke to and designed for EV use whereas BMW is almost certainly using stuff from other cars that's not designed for tight packaging.
In any case, the frunk on a Tesla isn't that big, maybe a backpack or two? I'd sacrifice it for the right benefits.

I4 is a GC... while there is no storage in the front, storage space will be least of your worries. So i dont really see the point of it.
I could fit a 75 TV in the back on my 435GC with ease.. from the pictures i have seen, the i4's hatch is just as capable. It does not seem it has any less space than the 435GC. You could fit way more stuff than Model 3.
I guess that is one of the benefits from sharing stuff with the 4 series. If BMW were to design a EV sedan from ground up, i highly doubt it will be a GC/Hatchback and i can't say it will be prettier either.

Good insight.
Personally, I've been thinking twice about it. I'd love to get out of my VW while the value is still inflated (trade in is $3k less than I paid 3 yrs/24k miles ago, private party is pretty much what I paid), but deals can't be found right now. At best, I've gotten invoice pricing, but that's on vehicles that were selling well under invoice just 6 months ago. I'm having a hard time justifying it.

I'm putting off even looking for another car, used or new, for at least 18 months. It's good to not NEED a car at this time.

If you can find a deal on a desirable car at manufacturer invoice right now, along with what you can get for your used car right now...you could make a killing.

The downside - the 3-4 month wait
And no thanks to the Tesla. The fanbois have turned me off from the brand.
I have one car - the R. The female has the CRV. She started a new job a month ago, so having one car isn't sustainable at the moment. I kinda wish I made the move back in December, but then the R would have brought in ~$5k less.

Maybe just get a beater for a few months and move the R on? What are you looking to get into?
If you can sell a car without buying a new car, do it right now.
Dont buy a new car unless you have to.... dont think you will find any real deals right now.
FYI... One of my closest friend for 20+ years who i got all my BMW from... just quoted me MSRP for a X7 (for someone else).... The same car can be had with 10% discount BEFORE any incentives 3-4 months ago without even trying....

So if I'm an Elon bootlicker I get it tomorrow but if I'm not I have to wait until Friday? I'm willing to stand my ground for an extra day.

Apparently a lot of the German makes are telling US dealers that once production picks up, they still won't be allocating many cars to the US. Most of the production power will be going to China because that's where the money is.
Not sure how much truth there is to it but he said he heard it from three different contacts across the country
I'm starting to think the days of 10% discounts are gone. Invoice may be the best, if you can get it.
The logistic nightmare will subside in time, but until they have a permanent fix for the chip issue, this will be an ongoing issue.
From the Business perspective, of course you will go where the $ is, but i dont think German's will sacrifice US market as it is still one of their biggest. There are plenty of other countries that could be cut before US.
Besides, Most of the "German" cars are made in China already. So the Production in Germany is primarily for the US and EU.
Both US and China are start investing in those chips and it will take many years before we see how that turns out. From what i learned that there is a reason why US didn't wanna do chips, instead we exported the technology to TW and other countries. It is very polluting and demands a lot of resources (electricity and water).
1 part i dont understand is, what really caused the chip shortage (other than covid)? Our demand for such product has been steady.... wtf happened all of a sudden?

Why is there a chip shortage?
So in March 2020, the global pandemic prompted automakers, suppliers and car dealerships to close down. The economy went into a recession.
The automakers, who have experienced previous recessions, quickly canceled orders for parts with computer chips, thinking auto sales would nosedive, said Michelle Krebs, executive analyst for Autotrader. Sales of new cars did plummet initially, but quickly rebounded with pent-up demand and 0% financing offers. Also, dealers figured out how to sell vehicles online, offering home pickup and delivery. So when the factories restarted, the stronger-than-expected demand for new vehicles outpaced production and has yet to catch up. "Automakers and suppliers that use chips contacted their chipmakers and put back their orders," Krebs said. "By then, chip capacity was consumed by other businesses — phones, computers, video games — as people worked and schooled at home."
Global chip production is monopolized by a few global, Asia-Pacific suppliers, said Joe McCabe, CEO of AutoForecast Solutions LLC. "Everyone’s lights went off at the same time. This means that there was no ability to build inventory of products and solutions when businesses were able to turn their lights back on," McCabe said. "This created a significant bottleneck in all manufacturing processes." The chip deficit was further complicated by a fire at plant owned by chipmaker Renesas Electronics in Japan. The damage was extensive and the plant is not yet up to full production, but they are hoping it will reach full production in June, Krebs said.

^ Yep this. They all had orders in that they cancelled. When things came back they placed new orders but went to the back of the line as a result. We're just now in a lead time situation before things even out more. It's pretty easy to get a phone, computer, xbox, whatever these days because they didn't cancel orders and kept their foot on the gas.
Now if only lumber prices would come down...

So in other word, they fucked up and we still have to pay them premium right now for their mistakes even knowing all that.... It is pretty fascinating
Remove the damn Tariff to offset some of this inflation please.... I think Americans paid long enough for Tariff that was meant for someone else...

Tariffs aren't harming things right now, it's lack of supply to the demand present.
upon further investigation, it seems some Xdrive are still being produced in Munich and all RWD version is made in Mexico.... that might be why it was so fast.
whatever. fine by me.. this caught me by a surprised as i still have summer non-runflat tires on and everything on my current car... Need to get that done to return the blue one in.
