Well of course it's just entertainment, all of these are. Though by your logic, the TRoc and Porsche should have lost by a mile lol.
Not a car but 1,600 horsepower is interesting. Just found out one of my neighbors knocked down $50,000 in a fishing tournament. Will give him some pocket change back if he needs to replace an engine.

Yeah just noticed the top pic has the black colored motors and the bottom is white....2 boats or just swapping out engines???....dunno much about boats....except can't afford them, lol
Cars are cool but some of those boats are on another level power and cost wise and fun of course.

Yeah man. If you look at the "average" doctor salary, it's certainly much higher than avg US household...but if a doc has to support their spouse + kids + cars + home...it's not THAT much left over probably to spend on an expensive boat(s).
Unless they're pretty low key in other expenses or single and young and just blow everything on boat payments/expenses.
Or in some cases, if you're a specialty surgeon or owns/part of a very successful private practice...then you can get to the 7-figure per year range. At that point though you're almost more of a small business owner than a doctor per se.

The avg salary of a general doctor is probably in the $200k range? That's a good chunk of change once all your med school loans are paid off lol. Guessing many surgeons or specialists are MUCH higher than that though. Either way, that boat is probably a $200k+ boat plus upkeep and gas so it's not a cheap ordeal at all.
$200k or $1million... makes no difference to me.. i dont think i can ever be a doctor even if i have the brain to study for it.

Agreed. One of my two ragerts in life is not trying for med school. It was one of my life goals but I had just had enough after finishing engineering that I wanted nothing to do with another 4+ years of school lol.
The other profession that doesn't get paid enough are teachers. I would want to shoot myself dealing with that all day. Good for them.

He has had other boats going back for a while. Specializes in Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine. Think in the original picture with the black engines you can see the stubs on the roof that the flying bridge mounts to.
I was walking down to the dock when he chugged by & hit a quick phone picture. Tree got in the way.

Guess I should add a pretty new used 37', 2/3 years old, will cost around $900,000 with engines & trailer. Really gotta like to fish. They are made by Freeman Boat Works a specialty boat yard. Come in 4 flavors 34' 900HP, 37' 1600HP, 42' 1800HP, 47' 1800HP
Big one holds 1000 gallons of gas little one 400 gallon. So you need a fat credit card to say "fill it up".

BUt even at say avg 91 octane prices....at 400 to 1000 gallons....that's a nice house payment for the month...to fill up your boat once...lol....

The 400's are inline 6 cylinder 2.6L Supercharged DOHC 24 valve engines. The 400 runs on 89 about $3.00 + or - .20. So a fill on the 1600HP with 800 gallon tank is around $2400 give or take. Some of these guys have a s**t load of money. More typical on the street are 28'/32' single & twin engine center console boats. Guy we bought the house from had a 21' single. Its for sale at the local boat yard for $50K. I prefer a twin in the 30' range to take out into the Atlantic. Will buy a pretty new used one. Not prepared to get a quad engined boat that gets .75MPG at best cruise & cost $2.4K to fill.
The island runs north to south & is 5 miles long X about 6 blocks wide. 900 full time residents. Our place is straight in from the Intracoastal Waterway

My grandfather's 26ft Cobalt had a 454 in it. It was a bit of a pain to fuel in the water, as the filler hole was only about 8in above the water line. Seems it was designed to be easier to fuel on the trailer.
Other downside to the low filler, was that when it reached full, it would slosh fuel out & onto your hand (no trigger hold on the marina pumps), due to the natural motion of the boat in the water.

If you can afford a heavy 6-figure to 7-figure luxury/fun item...you probably don't care/worry too much about a few hundred bucks for the convenience of gassing up at the marina

We are near a boat ramp in Raleigh & the local gas stations have quite a few boats getting fueled on trailers. At the beach we would have to run the boat around the island to the boat ramp load it drive to a gas station then do the whole thing in reverse to get it back to the dock. Small engine boat you could easily fuel from Jerry cans. Spread is over a $1.00 a gallon at the marina vs the car gas station.

Ours is salt. Had Chlorine back in Jersey & it was pretty expensive getting 100lbs drums. Salt is cheap at Home Depot or the pool store. Knocks annual maintenance down quite a bit. Also the electric heaters don't run as much.
Ours is relatively low maintenance, just the unavoidable costs (water/power/chemical)
We don't go through all that much, keeping it in line.
What is the season in TX? We usually open in April & close in September. Weather wise could keep it open longer but it would bet burred in leaves. Jersey was a shorter season due to weather.
End of season. Hot Tub stays open 365
