I think those are perfect to battle it out with Lexus... and you know Audi is not just gonna sit on the sideline...just wait until they start tweaking their grille...
I think it's settled, I was looking at used 981 Caymans but hearing horror stories from owners about maintenance scared me. I have always wanted an ND, and nobody wants to sit in the back of my BRZ anyway
Already have an SUV if I need to haul things. Still going back and forth between an RF or not, but I would drive with the top down often and the RF isn't a real top down experience... plus I dislike that little quarter window.
That's fair, I'd stay away from the pre-facelift cars anyway (IMS failures...). I'd love to snag a Cayman R, but they're still commanding a pretty high amount. The interior on the 981 is really nice, but after driving a 987, I'm sold. It's "old school", but in the right ways. I test drove a 2011 Cayman S along with a C6 Grand Sport, and I thought the overall quality of the Cayman was leaps ahead of the GS, plus it just felt like a way more planted car. The Vette felt like I was sitting on top of the car (even though it had the optional sportier seats), while the Porsche felt like I was sitting in it. And the steering... it was magnificent... The Vette, not so much.
Anyway, I think the RF is a great looking car, but the added weight is silly for a Miata. Kinda wish they pulled a Lotus and offered a cloth top that was manually removable (and foldable). I vote regular ND.

Yeah, my buddy has an '09 with the resolved IMS issue. It's the 2.7L but still really fun to drive and decent on gas. I spend 80% or more of my time sitting in traffic anyway. My BRZ has yet to break 40k miles and it's my daily. Again, nobody wants to sit in the back
I was thinking soft top too, for the same reasons. The roofline is sexy as hell on the RF, but it just seems like too much of a compromise. Plus a rollbar will up my hardpark game exponentially women will be lining up just to throw their sopping wet pantaloons at me.
That's how I know I am really interested in a car, anyone else? Before I even buy it, I start looking at modifications I can do to it... I spent an hour listening to various exhaust clips for the ND and reading about the DG Motorsports hardtop.

You guys are going about this all wrong.
The right answer is S2000.
Won't depreciate
No silly hard top in the way
Cheaper to buy
Cheaper to run
Tons of fun
Best MT ever made
Excellent build quality
Don't have to explain that it's not your GF's/wife's car

I have driven a few different S2000s, both stock and modified and love them. Very good points. But...

Seen too many horror stories of people getting their tops ripped for the seats, then when the thieves can't get the seats out because the bolts are loctite'd in, they cut the seats too. Read a thread about a guy with an Elise (yes, I looked at those too getting his top ripped and Elise stolen while inside of a gated parking garage.
Yeah I need to move out of the hood, but I'm already cringing at how much I pay to live here as is. Moving closer to work would be even more expensive.

ND got an adjustable steering wheel in 2018(?).
I guess it's all about proportion, if you're a really long-legged 6'+ I could see it being an issue. Same for being long-torsoed & putting the top up Just kidding, top down, always.
I'm 6'0" & haven't driven anything that was a tight fit, Miata, S2k, Mini, 70s Spirfire, etc.
