Definitely an oddball for a Cobra. Surprised that V10 fit.

So why start with G and not just 1 through 6? Is it a way to downshift easier to a low gear?

^I'm assuming that's the starting gear, has enough low end torque(or a different gear ratio) to get the car moving

What's the 'G' for in German?

Why a super car has an off road low range gear, I haven't the slightest. I doubt this gear was supposed to be used for any sort of road use which is why there's still a 1st gear.

I don't know what the difference in ratio from G to 1 is so who knows if it was even possible to start in G and then shift to 1. Low range is used for getting a lot of torque to climb or keeping wheel speed low for additional control or to slow down steep descents. None of those things I would ever imagine a 959 doing lol.

"G" gear in the 959 stood for "Gelände" which means terrain. It was for off-road use.

Thanks for the info on the "G" first gear for 959. It makes sense given the 959 was Porsche's first official AWD vehicle.
The new SS 1LE sure is making me feel funny down there. I haven't really felt the urge for a muscle car in a while, other than with the GT350. But the SS 1LE is even more of a bargain, and all the tech it has... hmm

yeah that SS 1LE package is HOT!!!!
The NSX thread piqued my interest, it had me watching a bunch of the Lightning Lap videos. I always knew what the 1LE stood for as a package - but I didn't know to what extent it did on the 6th gen Camaro.
The 2017 SS 1LE now has magnetic ride control, initially only found on the ZR1 and CTS-V. An e-LSD (not that brake-vectoring bullshit), 6-piston front Brembos, engine oil, trans, and diff coolers. Shit like that makes my wee-wee go up.
I'm curious to see how much it really weighs though. Most likely no lighter than a 1SS. The old 1LEs (2002 and prior) had roll-up windows, manual door locks, really no power anything. Nearly every suspension component was different from a Z28/SS.

How much does a new 1LE go for these days? Gotta be damn near $45k-$50k right?
Yeah, the SS 1LE will come in right under $45k. There 2017 GT350 now has the track package standard, which includes powertrain coolers and magnetic dampers (the 1LE has the aforementioned two upgrades standard) as well as a spoiler. With the track pack standard now, the GT350 starts at just over $55k.
Driven by Randy Pobst, the GT350R ($62k) was only a second and a half faster than the heavier, less powerful 1LE at Laguna Seca.
I think you guys remember how much I was fangirling over the GT350R as well...

If you want a track car, I wouldn't buy either the Camaro or the Shelby lol.

The Camaro has always been the better track car over the Mustang but it's more about the experience in living with either that I'd be more interested in. After having a Camaro as a rental for a week, I'd never buy one. Can't see out of the damn thing and the blind spots can hide a semi truck. Also the sound coming out of the GT350 tail pipes is on a different level from the Camaro.

Haven't been in a Camaro since about 2014, though.

That flat plane crank... GT350.

My 4th gen F-body had awful visibility as well, and a low roof. And there's no good way to set the mirrors, they're too small close to the body.
It's something you get used to.
I really like my BRZ visibility wise. For a modern coupe, it's as good as it gets. So easy to maneuver with its tight parking radius, and the added backup camera.
I'm weird though. Who else autocrosses a Camaro? I never considered tracking the Camaro until the 1LE was revealed. The GT350 is way out of my budget. I love the way that flat plane V8 sounds screaming to 8k though.
A blend of the BRZ and good 'ol GM muscle. The engine builder claimed 532 whp 586wtq but I do not have dyno sheets to confirm.

Back when I used to autocross every few weeks, there were always a few Camaros out there. Not nearly as many as the Vettes, but they seemed to do decently. This was around 04-06, so prior to the current crop of cars.

And then you have the last generation Z28 which was a track monster.
And the Z/28 is no doubt a very capable track vehicle, that makes it all the more surprising that the 2017 SS 1LE is beating lap times the Z/28 had set.

I heard the rumor about Apple and McLaren... and that they both deny they were in any talks. Thanks for the leaked photo, but frankly, it's not doing anything for me.
