No, you wouldn't. The energy of the collision is not absorbed at all by the materials used to construct the light post; so, the energy of the collision would go through you. It's the primary reason today's cars are much safer in an accident than a tank-like Chevy from the 60's.

Any kind of crumple zone won't do a whole lot in a side impact (if we're assuming the car hit that light pole sideways). I wouldn't be surprised if that car was designed to do that. Probably better than the car staying together but wrapping itself around like so:

I found some reading on the crashworthiness of CF and other composites vs. metals anyway:

The Challenge of Crashworthiness for Composites Cars - HyperWorks Insider

It's a cool article if you have a couple minutes.

This.
Sorry, I should have posted that in red text. Of course absorption is better but that lamp post didn't even look damaged in the slightest. Also, splitting completely in half just behind the passenger compartment is equal parts absorption and deadly too. This doesn't even count the fire...why is it that italian sports cars are always on fire?

This is the million dollar question. It does seem to be a recurring theme.

I saw that on my local news last night.

A Lincoln T-boned that Lambo. For once, it is not the Lambo's fault according to the witness.

Good thing i removed my signature. Apparently Lambo's traction control is not as good as Acura's.

Agreed, though Goodwin Racing is putting down nearly 200 at the wheels; header, midpipe, exhaust & tune.
OVTuning is working on a turbo ND.

They separate like that because the passenger compartment is a "tub". Its the safety cell (just like in a F1 car). Everything else gets bonded/bolted to it and is often times designed to separate like that to minimize damage/end energy transferal into the passenger compartment/cell.
As for the fires, Its Mostly because of the chemicals that are used to bond the composites (arent welded together like steel/alum) and the resins for the CF.

Actually stumbled upon GWR's post of their longtube header + tune for the ND. I find it hard to believe, really, for 91 octane. A BRZ/FR-S will dyno around 200 to the wheels with full exhaust (including header) and an E85 tune. Very generous dyno possibly, I see a lot of NDs baseline around 140whp.

a 2.5L option would be nice too. Not holding my breath though, I've been waiting for Subaru to drop a 2.5L in the BRZ since the beginning.

Mazda is having a ride and drive event for the new CX-9 right in my neighborhood. So, I stopped by to check them out as they have peaked my interest in recent months. Especially, since the Cherokee has 8 months left on the lease.

Man, these things are pretty sexy, and the interior...holy crap. One of the best in class.

I'm kinda in love.

I walked by over this ironing and drove one.

Holy wow!!! This thing is impressive. It's really fun to drive. And you'd never guess it only had a turbo 4.

Thisnis is definitely on the list when my wife's lease is up next year.

Goodwin's been at it for a while. Haven't seen any other dyno posts with the full system yet. If I end up with an ND, it'll likely get the GWR longtube/midpipe & GWR race muffler with OVTune.

Supposedly, the 2.5 isn't an easy fit, though not impossible.

If we didn't already have the Flex, I'd be trying to convince my wife to check these out. Really like the looks of it,

We also tested the CX-9 and it was one of our finalists though we haven't made a move yet. I was very impressed by it. Hopefully they'll play ball with you. Just came out.

It's a Mazda. Wouldn't be surprised if it's fun to drive, especially for a vehicle of its size.

I saw the CX-9 in a commercial and was very impressed by the styling, inside and out

They can leverage the existing supply chain for the Escalade badge in order to get some extra cost cutting in there.
