General Car Talk Discussion Thread
Not sure which version...each version has a different "look/texture" in the center stack. But yeah...I LOVE that design. Two of my club members now have the Scat Pack models. So, nice.
So when you come up here next-as we were talking on the other thread, I will see if I can take you over to founding partner of my practice house.
You know how many of us have diff cars for different needs? She doesn't believe in it. They believe in 1 expensive car, per driver of the household.
I was talking about the CTS-V wagon last year, and had to hear the diatribe against American cars

Their garage:
AM Rapide-Hers
P85-Husbands
SLR-Sons (bought it for him in med school).
The AM and the SLR has over 80k miles each.
Pretty funny
Im not sure which cars you saw with that...none of my 3 modern mopars have panel gaps. There is plastic...but under the nice soft touch dash materials. Usually around the drive tunnel/center console. The Challenger probably being the "cheapest" of them...but also the oldest (not counting my former 97 JGC) My wife 14 Cherokee is great...well put together and just comfy. Same with my Durango. And after test driving the 15 Challenger and 15 Charger I was impressed with those as well...though the design of the Charger is nice, but not blow my socks off.
Audi...great interiors...love them.
SS with a manual is a nice sleeper...but too boring looking for me. I dont think the car with last. CTS-V wagon in manual is pure sex...love that interior, too. neuronbob has one, lucky SOB.

yeah I looked for a CTS-V manual wagon for a while, couldn't find what I wanted. I have a outstanding offer to Bob, should he sell his, to give me first right of refusal.
The SS interior is bad too. Too chrome. But I like it, as hard to find kid haulers with power and 3 pedals
P.S. Was talking to a member here randomly on a thread (similar to an offer on Bob's CTS-V),a nd the guy responded in wanting to sell what is in his sig. We are working the deal. Its been something I have been looking for a long time. Nothing fancy, its Home Depot related. I will fly up and get it, if we can agree on the price
We lived in Iran for a few years. My dad worked for the Iran Oil Company . They had no Irani Physicians, (severe shortage) during Shah time.

I do see quite a bit with less than 10k miles selling for 10-12k below sticker. That's a steal considering it's practically new. You can spend about the same or a little more and get a '12 SRT 300 or Charger with about 30k miles. I'd rather get the SRT. SS has no presence even though it might be the better driver's car.

Hell, by the end my RT was on rails, felt smaller, and no body roll. But, the ride was still compliment and comfy.
I might need to talk to you offline about that.. If you had to pick between the Charger and 300 because I need 4 doors and don't want to spend the extra coin on the Jeep, which would you go with? My guess is Charger..
this dude owns a P1, 918, and a LaFerrari.................. #dropsthemic

Those who own a hypercar have a special spot in their garage for their car where it is pampered and care for. They take pride in their ultra-fast car that is, more than likely, one of the fastest cars in the world. Now, take businessman Pail Bailey, a British tycoon that had to make room for all three of his hypercars: the LaFerrari, McLaren P1 and Porsche 918 Spyder.
To our understanding, Bailey is the first person to own all three of these new hypercars. In an article published by Daily Mail yesterday, Jan. 27, we learned that Bailey first owned his McLaren P1 and, in one day, added the LaFerrari and 918 Spyder to his collection. Above, you can watch a video of him talking about what it’s like to drive his P1, filmed by Supercar Driver.

According to the article, he drove his P1 to pick up the LaFerrari, which he ordered two years ago. After picking the Italian hypercar, he then drove 100 miles to pick up his 918 Spyder, which was driven by a friend who was traveling with him and his wife. In one day, he tripled his hypercar collection.

But, these three hypercars are not the entirety of his collection. Daily Mail also states that Bailey has an automotive collection consisting of around 30 supercars.
To put how amazing the ownership of these three cars is in dollars, their combined price is around $3.7 million. But, this price will surely appreciate throughout the years.
Stay with us for a documentary about Bailey’s hypercar trio expereince, which is being created by Supercar Driver.

The 300 is quite nice, too.
So like...I have to admit. I'm not as hip and "with the times" as most and so, I really had no idea what srika's "dropthemic" was all about. So, I did quip that he had a grip problem...ANYHOW, since I do enjoy searching for things, I had to look up what "dropthemic" really means.
This is the definition:
srika, you are a weirdo. Why are you trying to give us all half-baked handjobs?!??
This is the definition:
To give a guy a handjob but during the handjob make it awkward but not so awkward that he doesn't want you to finish. Make it very impersonal and then right before he's about to cum let go of his dick and walk away.
For the past 3 years..
Money burning a hole in my pocket. I don't want to invest it because of looming self-correction. The wife is for it. I'm indecisive and then at times I don't want to spend the money. Now some asshole at work just bought a GT-R.. It's a vicious cycle.
Need 4 doors though. I think I'm leaning towards 2nd Gen CTS-V or SRT8. I know I can run the SRT into the ground. CTS-V will get me into trouble.. so tempting, but I know I'll go overboard.. pulley intake exhaust injectors tune meth..

Have you test driven either of your two candidates? And I gather that German cars are out of consideration?
I considered an e92 M3 and C63.. I think it will be too tight in the back. Wife loves the ISF.. but same thing. I need legroom, which doesn't leave much for those in the back. I have some seat time in a 1st gen SRT8 300 and IS-F. 300 is a boat, easy highway cruiser but enough umph to keep it from being boring. No seat time in CTS, M3 or C63.
Saw my first NX today out in the wild. White color. Must have been just bought, had dealer plates. Couldn't tell if it was turbo or hybrid (was next to me going opposite direction)
Looked great from the front. Rear looked a little plain. Howsever, the rear had a very good familial resemblence to the current IS

I'm sure all the candidates are going to be amazing but at least, you can qualify it with the test drive and then decide if you have 40,000 reasons (using that # as a ballpark price) to buy it.
Indeed.. I've been avoiding it so I don't walk in for a test drive and come back 40k lighter.
I wouldn't buy a car without some serious seat time, almost happened with the F, fortunately that was when it was brand new.. wasn't about to drop that coin.

Questions:
My accord just hit 100,000 miles. (bought it used with 40k miles in 2009). Never had a car with anything close to 100k miles.
I have done oil change every 5k miles and did a brake fluid/tranny fluid change at 70k miles.
What are the must do maintenance items at around 100k miles?
Spark plugs?
Timing belt?
Valve adjustment?
Or should i just get a new car?

100k.. she's just broke in.. timing belt is 105k that includes water pump adjuster auto tensioner and idler pulley.. plus tstat, coolant and plugs. I advise replacing the vtec solenoid gasket and crank pulley seal / front main seal while you're there. It usually starts leaking between first and second timing belt changes. The exhaust valves tend to tighten over 100k, not a bad idea to do it while you're in there. Trans fluid every 30k miles, BF and PSF flush every year and check the intake filter and cabin air filter periodically and you should be money. Also, shinetsu the window channels..
Shit that sounds expensive....
Give me a must do list and i will take it to get a quote... if it is too expensive (as in if it cost 20% of the car value), i might as well just get a new car.

New S class just exudes elegance and the "I'm better than you" vibe. I love it.

Nah.. the parts in all is about $250. Labor is dependent on your area and ability to haggle.. is the LX the 4 banger? I can't remember the trim levels. Might be even cheaper.
If it is the 4 cyl and you want to sel it, let me know
GLA is fugly at best. It just looks disproportionate in every way.
The CLA is the Hyundai of MB. Everything inside of that car screams cheap but all the $40k millionaires are buying them because benz.

new C class benz is excellent on the inside. Highly recommend you give it a second look. It's like a baby S class.

INterestingly no one buys the 4 door Gran Coupe 6 series around here, a car that actualy looks good.
C Class looks baby S class on outside. DIdn't realize it looks that good on inside too.
What is the price diff between CLA and C?
For the V6 / J.. the timing kit with all the parts (WP, idler, auto tensioner, belts, etc) is about $150-200. Add in $50 for 6 NGK Laser Iridium plugs + $20 for coolant + $20 for tstat. Valve adjust is probably another $150 in labor on top of the timing belt job which can range from $250 to $800 on just labor. Some shops make major margin on this job.. heck if you ask a local aziner in the regions thread, you might get someone to do it for 200 + a case of shitty beer.
A reasonable estimate of parts and work for the V6 timing belt job and valve adjustment is ~$650.
You can always DIY and cut that down to $300.
If it's a 4 banger.. much less.
