Honda Hit With $70M In Fines For Failing To Report Deaths, Injuries To Federal Government
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Honda was slapped with two $35 million fines Thursday for failing to report deaths, injuries and certain warranty claims to the federal government, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The first of the two $35 million civil penalties was for Honda’s failure to report 1,729 death and injury claims to the NHTSA between 2003 and 2014, the agency said. The second civil penalty was levied due to the carmaker’s failure to report certain warranty claims and claims under customer satisfaction campaigns during the same time period, for a total fine of $70 million.
“Honda and all of the automakers have a safety responsibility they must live up to – no excuses,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said in a statement.
In addition to civil penalties, Honda was ordered to comply with NHTSA oversight requirements under a consent order that requires the carmaker to develop written procedures for compliance with early warning report requirements, train appropriate personnel on at least an annual basis and complete two third-party audits of its compliance with its reporting obligations.
Honda will also be required to provide the NHTSA’s Early Warning Division with information about the 1,729 unreported death and injury incidents and the warranty claims so they can be analyzed for potential safety concerns and take appropriate action to protect the driving public.

What would you call the skinny pedal on a diesel car? It's not technically the throttle, or gas pedal... not necessarily the accelerator

So I detailed a Chevy Cruze for a friend today. The car has 24k on it and she has NEVER cleaned the interior. So I spent a solid four hours on the interior alone... What does she do when she picks it up? Puts her fucking dog in the car

My friend was driving his 2005 MPV and one of the front axles cracked and his wheel flew away. Any idea the cost to repair the axle?
Chapter Leader (Southern Region)
Well.. that's a loaded question. If the wheel flew away it's more than just the axle. So first is where the axle is splined with the transmission. If that's good, then it's suspension components. We then have to consider the lower arm. If it just ripped away from the lower ball joint, that's an easy fix. If it damaged the lower arm, then you need to replace the whole assembly. The strut is definitely messed up. If it's just the hardware and ripped clean from the strut, not a biggie, but I suspect it damaged the top hat and supporting structure. Fk. Then the tie rod, if it bent or ripped away, no biggie just replace it. If it damaged the rack, or ripped the inner boot, rebuild time. Then we get to the braking components.. New brake line, speed sensor, etc. Probably new rotor and caliper to be safe. Plus any body damage.. shiett. Parts alone, even if used, could be +1k (closer to 2k new would be my guess, worst case). Pay the deductible.

I'm kinda surprised the cracked axle ripped the wheel away and that your bro didn't notice he had a cracked axle before it went. Most drive axles are pretty robust. Usually the CV joint is the point of failure and it's still rare for the wheel to rip completely off on a regular passenger vehicle. Usually in cases where the wheel flies off is the lower ball joint wasn't secured properly (not tightened per spec or no cotter pin installed) or lugnuts not tightened properly. Your brosef might have damaged it by hitting something on the road. Either way.. f that.

And frankly, why buy a wagon when you have great cars like the Honda Pilot M with an extra 300HP?

Thanks for your concern. I think this is like 1284th time I'm getting this from AZine members. It's a little weird that me getting hit by a random tire on the highway warrant a concern like that.
Our Avant has been rock solid so far. Still has like 51K miles after five years. I've been keeping a close eye on Audizine B8 section to see if there's any recurring problems with higher mileage members. Thankfully, there's none that pops up at the moment.
Don't get me wrong though, I am fully aware of the post-warranty problems with German cars and its cost to fix!
It's funny though. My wife and I usually got bored of cars after three to four years, but this Avant is a little different. It still feels pretty new, if that makes any sense. haha
