Some people like Subaru, and some people like EVO. It all depends on personal taste in cars.

There's nothing wrong with you hating on EVO. It's completely normal.

In reply to Costco's post on the EVO's tails, I think once the Ralliart came out, the EVO got its taillights as well. I think only the first and second year of EVO had the regular tails.

Why does the EVO still have only a 5-speed manual?

Went to Subaru in Glendale today while wife was shopping at the Americana.

Like 9 salesmen were at the parking lot talking shit because nobody goes to Subaru. I walked up and asked if they have a BRZ. This youngest looking white guy comes up to me and says it's only for pre-order and I would have to pay $5,000 mark up price on top of the MSRP.

I'm like uhhh no I don't want to purchase the car yet obviously since I don't even know how it looks in person nor how it drives. And I told him no I will never pay this "mark up" price on a car. And I told him nobody's going to pay $5k mark up for a $26k Subaru car.

He's like yes they will, everyone will have to pay for it because if not, we won't sell it. And he tells me he knows every Subaru dealership is doing it in that way. I tell him that I went to another Subaru dealership in Costa Mesa couple weeks ago, and they aren't doing any of pre-order shit. He's like . are you sure dude??

While this is happening, all the other salesmen were still talking shit in the back.

I just laughed at the guy and left the dealership.

This type of dumb crap is the reason why Subaru is just Subaru in the States.

If my two options were the Evo or Sti, I'd take me 30 years to decide...I started off like the Sti more, but now I lean towards the Evo.

^^ Dealership people should not be allowed to talk....most of them. I've never met one that actually knew what he was talking about, besides the guy at the Honda dealership telling me that the FSTB helps the gas mileage on Accord coupes.

what a massive idiot. I can only imagine how stupid some salesman must feel when people come in and know more about the car than they do.

I mean I've met a lot of helpful and knowledgeable sales people before at various dealerships. And of course, I've met these dumbass salesmen who knew dogshit about the cars that they are selling for work.

But today marks as the worst dealership experience ever.

This idiot that I'd talked to today was not only a dumbass, but also was acting as if he was selling me a 911 Turbo or something. It's a goddamn $26k Subaru after all.

I have to agree with you, but I haven't found anyone that helpful or knowledgeable outside of higher end dealerships, but there is reason for that.

Salesman are not paid to know everything about the car. They are paid to bend you over and screw you with a rusty pipe.

And no lube.

It reminds me of a time in the 90's when I was going to see a car with a friend. The particular car was auto. The salesman was telling us that auto is better, because it shifts for you (i.e. does it faster). Of course, this was back in the day, when a properly-shifted MT car was quicker than its Auto counterpart. We shared repeated chuckles over that incident. I would have never (at the time) thought that a day would come when autos actually do shift faster than MT...

I don't really care if they know what they are talking about. I do my own research anyway. Don't we all do that in advance? I don't go to the dealership to get educated about the car that I want to buy.

I just want them to be polite enough to get me through that buying process without much hassle.

Yeah, I don't think we expect the salesman to know much. The problem is when they try to use their 'knowledge' to try to sell you something, let alone try to rip you off based on some misinformation.

There were numerous instances when I went car shopping with my brother (before he got his Accord), and I had to correct the salespeople. It was really scary that they were tasked with selling a product they really have no knowledge of.

There were only two or three salespeople at the Toyota dealer that knew what the FR-S was when I put my deposit down. Even then, I had to tell them how the process went

I spoke to the owner of a Nissan/Subaru store about this. He said all of his cars he has coming in for the next few months is already pre-sold, and at a markup over MSRP. I forgot how much he said, but I think it was $5k. He also told me that dealers are getting a VERY limited amount of them, which is why they are capitalizing on profits for this car. Not looking to defend, just telling you how it is. It's unfortunate, but this is what they do when there's a new product, and every day, a sucker is born. If ya gotta have it, you will pay for it. Supply and demand..

Whats funny though, if you got on the list a month ago, you wouldn't pay a markup. None of the Subaru dealers near me were charging markups.

The guys on FT86Club are vigilant with posting the dealerships that are marking up the car. No one on there is paying a markup. Theres a dealer in Vegas that is charging a $6k markup on the car. They are getting 17 cars this year IIRC. I think they have 2 pre-orders. Paying a markup for any car is stupid. Paying a markup on a $26k car is asinine.

I'll pass the BRZ. I'll just check out the FRS at Scion since they were all very nice when I called to ask.

And mark up BS was expected, it's just that their punk ass attitude about the whole thing. They must be so happy to get so many calls at the dealership for the first time.

btw:
2000 MERCEDES-BENZ CLK GTR SUPERSPORT

# 17 of 25 Clk GTRs made in the world, and it is 1 of
5 CLK GTR Super Sport built. USA street legal, federalized
on a Florida title. Mercedes-Benz-AMG 7.3 liter V12, 720
HP, 0-60 in 3.0 seconds, 0-100 in 5.2 seconds with a top
speed of 234 mph. Only 1,492 miles.

ABOUT THE MERCEDES-BENZ CLK GTR SUPERSPORT

The Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR is a grand tourer and race car that was built by Mercedes-AMG, performance and motorsports arm of Mercedes-Benz.
Intended for racing in the new FIA GT Championship series in 1997, the CLK GTR was designed primarily as a race car, with the road cars necessary in order to meet homologation standards being secondary in the car's design. Thus the limited production road-going cars were considered racing cars for the road.

After competing successfully in 1997, the race car was upgraded in 1998 for the 24 Hours of Le Mans and renamed the CLK LM. Following the construction of the CLK LMs and the CLK GTR road cars, the project would end in 1999 by being replaced by the Mercedes-Benz CLR Le Mans prototype.

Interesting... I never knew that!

the 6MT Mitsubishi used wasn't as stout as the 5-speed.

i'm no where near buying a new car but i like playing with the idea lol...

GTI or a Used E46 M3 with around 50kmiles.

Are the E46's reliable? For some reason I remember the SMG transmission being bad so I should stay away from those, other than that, reliability of the engine good??

I think GTI and E46 M3 have similar level of reliability. It's either hit or miss.

I still think the Focus ST at $26k is going to be an interesting alternative to the GTI.

At least until the MkVII comes out.

So my friend who is going to Israel for grad school is currently leasing a 10' 6MT GTI...

He offerend me to finish his lease haha. September - April for $342.50/month.

So I would dump $2400 into the car and then its out of my possession.

Good deal? I'm working on getting a paid internship right now so most of the decision comes based on that.

Assuming I get it, should I do it? I'm also starting grad school in September and will be paying for that on my own

Add another $5K at the least to that & you'll have your routine maintenance covered for a year.

vw offers 3year /36k no maintenance fees.

And it will fall within that so I wouldnt really have to pay for maintenance.

Yea you guys are probably right in that i shouldnt do it.

This go me thinking though.

What is the advantage of leasing a car? You have no ownership in it and its just throwing money away, in a way.

Leasing is for people who want: 1) a low payment; 2) don't put on a lot of miles; 3) don't mod their cars; and 4), want to change cars every 3-4 years.
