I think iDrive is a test of a person's patience...and was created as a gag by BMW's engineers.

But, otherwise, brilliant car. Just don't use iDrive.

iDrive was substantially improved in later iterations. The early adopters, though, they paid a price in frustration.

For sure.

My MINI's Nav and onboard system is apparently a variant of iDrive and it is...quirky. Definitely not the most elegant system I've used...but, it's still better than the prior iterations of iDrive I've played around with.

F30 Idrive is very very good. fast and simple.

The older version is like a slower version of Windows 8.

If you're looking for a modern version of iDrive, try Cadillac's CUE.

Shutting off the engine/electronics wouldn't do it?

Probably not a thread in Automotive News since it's not really a production model or industry-centric. Anyhow, Ugur Sahin releases another concept...this one based on the Ferrari 458. WYHI...?

NHTSA to GM: Have you been hiding something?

U.S. safety regulators are demanding that General Motors turn over reams of documents and other data showing what the company knew, and when, about a dangerous ignition problem that has been linked to 13 car-crash deaths.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating how GM handled the problem, which triggered the recall of 1.6 million older-model compact cars worldwide. GM has acknowledged it knew of the ignition troubles a decade ago but didn't recall the cars until last month.

In a 27-page order sent to GM Tuesday, NHTSA demanded pictures, memos, electronic communications, engineering drawings and other data to answer 107 questions about the case. The reply, which must be signed under oath by a company officer, is due April 3. GM spokesman Alan Adler said Wednesday that the company is cooperating.

NHTSA wants the documents to determine if GM delayed its response or withheld evidence. In either case, NHTSA could fine GM up to $35 million. Automakers are required to inform NHTSA of safety defects within five days of discovering them. Such a fine would be a record for NHTSA but essentially is pocket change for GM, which made $3.8 billion last year.

The 12 Most Embarrassing Cars from the Last Decade

CarInsurance.com sat 1,500 licensed drivers down and asked them to look at photos of 12 vehicles made in the last decade and decide if they would be embarrassed to be seen in them. The participants were then asked to rank the three most cringeworthy, in their opinion. “All these cars are bold statements,” CarInsurance.com managing editor Des Toups said. “You either love them or hate them.” Every so often, manufacturers will take some creative license with their products. While this approach has certainly yielded some tremendous results, more often than not, the general populace will be divided into Camp Love or Camp Hate.

I like a lot of them.

You could get the HHR in an SS panel van configuration. That would make for a sweet work van.

4G TL should replace the Cube. If 1st Gen xB isn't on the list then Cube shouldn't be either.

You say that now... I have driven said panel van. It wasn't in SS guise, though I doubt that would have saved it. It was a piece of shit.

At the very least, it didn't out-loser the PT Cruiser.

BMW released their 10000000th model.

To be honest, it's getting a little ridiculous.

"Getting"? We've long since passed the point of "ridiculous." We're into "absurd" at this point.

Link doesn't open for me, but I believe that's an old article.

And just to be clear.. they're saying the Murano CrossCabriolet. The Murano itself is a decent looking crossover. The CrossCabriolet is the ugly cousin that fell off the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way. Only people I've seen driving CrossCabriolets wear birkenstocks and like munching on carpet.

Also.. the Cube isn't on the list because of it's box shape. It's on the list because it looks fucking ridiculous.

How is the Towncar on that list? It is a great car for the role it serves. Embarrassing? No way.

Towncar, probably didn't want to be associated with an airport shuttle driver.

H2, probably didn't want to be associated with people who wear tapout shirts and have a small penis.

Since we discussed this earlier.. posting smoking tire's review of the SS. Pretty much sums up our sentiments about it.
