I'd like to think my local Acura dealership wouldn't do this in my car

Wow, that's terrible. Unfortunately you never know what happens with your car when a technician drives it away. I love cars, especially mine, so I try to respect other people's cars as much as possible.

The dealership filed a police report for posting the video online, I don't think this is going to end well for the dealership. The internet jury has spoken!

This is the kind of stuff that really pisses me off, blatant disregard for someone else's property.

Glad I have my dash cam installed.
Funny, I just serviced my car at the dealership two weeks ago and actually grabbed a cup of coffee and reviewed the videos while they had possession of my car. Happy to report they treated it with respect... Also caught on the the techs say "Oh shit I think that's one of those cameras" so maybe thats why they treated it with respect LMAO

Oh, and for those interested, I caught this idiot on my cam two weeks back

Things like that are why youre better off to service your car yourself, if you can. Right now, I live in a rental house with no garage and no place to do my own service, so Im forced into taking it in to get work done.
Im not afraid to admit that I feel anxious every time I take my car in, I try to sit where I can watch them work on my car and I give it an inspection every time after I get home, just to make sure that the drain plug and oil filter and tight and that they put the oil fill cap back on properly.
Even if you have gone somewhere for years and theyve always done good work, you never know when they will hire a new tech who isnt good or when someone is having a bad day and doesnt care.

A car forum quote from this guy:

'Keep an eye out for this on Fox News soon! WSVN.'

The dash cam unit he employed for such a justifiable pzownage:

I know the internet says that this was such a horrible thing the dealership did and that people want to have federal charges brought against the dealer and the mechanic and want to beat him up and blah, blah, blah, but I just didn't see anything that really upsets me personally. It really wouldn't bother me if they did this to my car honestly as a modern engine ought to be able to survive a run around the block at redline with no issues. To be honest, running it hard for a while probably did actually fix it...

^ the dealer offered to buy the car back at retail. And it was not just a romp around the block at redline, it was considerably longer than that and damage was done to the car.

I didn't know Ford's standard procedure to fix such problems is to "drive this bitch around redlining it" to see if that "either make it worse or fucking fix it."

I guess it's silly to expect techs to treat our cars with respect. It's perfectly normal and acceptable for a tech to "drive around in this bitch" and "beat the shit out of it"... to try to "blow it up" by driving it hard at redline

Question re: the camera. Couldn't the service guys just have taken the memory card out if they wanted to hide what they did? I know they aren't the sharpest tools in the shed, but seems like anyone could just take the memory card if they're ever caught on video...

What do you drive? I just opened a small time dealership. We do redline work for free. If red lining doesn't fix your engine knock we won't charge you a dime to bring it back to another shop. If we do fix it well only charge a fraction what the competitors charge.

Sound good yeah? I'll redline your car for ya.

If someone's solution to fix a car is to redline it around the block they need to question their career choice. This is why there's a huge difference between some of these hacks and engineers. Lots of techs who diagnose an issue and deconstruct it properly to solve the problem and then these idiots who think, "I'll drive it harder and it'll go away." That's not what I'm paying a dealership for. Dashcam's are wonderful!

update: Car owner decided to not buy another Ford. I don't blame him.

As a result of that crap, I did get a dash cam for my car...

I had to have my G serviced last week. Trans needed a TSB reprogram. I left my dash cam connected. It was interesting watching the techs from that point of view. And the techs test drive of my car. Nothing bad this time though....

Quite a few were running Black Vue 2 years ago. Don't know about now.

There was even a group buy for them at one point by Black Vue.

Wow, wild video.

I work at a dealership (Service Advisor at Hyundai) and I've never noticed tech's abusing cars like this, or dogging cars. Does it happen I'm sure, I highly doubt to this extent. I don't like to test drive or cars as I don't get paid to... and techs are not making money if they are out joy riding, they all get paid by the job so its a waste of time unless its needed for diag reasons or confirming repairs.

On the flip side...

I do see customers abusing the loaner cars from time to time however, coming in with the brakes smelling and burning and I just think to my self, surely you don't drive your car this way...

I have the G1WH - it's the best bang for the buck out there. Got it for just under $70

Check the quality of the video I posted above, thats from my cam.

That's why I can't trust bringing any of my cars to the dealer. Weird cause I'm a tech at Acura but I see those idiot techs at Hyundai and Nissan fly by the Auto Center I work at all the time. It makes us all look bad because of them.

Reminds me of when I took my car to an Acura dealer. I went on a ride-along with a tech and he really was beating my car a little bit... and I was right there in the passenger seat Just upshifting and downshifting all over the place.

Then later on a different tech decided to hop in my car and go for a 2nd ride.... without my permission. It's been a few years so I doubt he broke anything, but I definitely will never go back.
