Finally, The Corvette is Supercharged (on Meth!)

I finally decided to pull the trigger on this. This thing is an absolute BEAST. Words can't describe the sound/power. The only thing is that I have no traction whatsoever in the 1st 2 gears and even had the traction control catch at 100 mph putting the pedal to the floor in 4th gear! I'm looking back and thinking this may have been overkill. I decided to go with the Alky/Meth injection from the get go because it helps prevent detonation of the bottom end if I get a bad tank of gas and reduces IAT temps by 80% (preventing the infamous issues the C7 Z06 deals with retarding the timing)---besides the hp/tq gains. This ended up costing WAY too much money in the end, but I did it right and changed everything (motor mounts, harmonic balancer, etc). Even swapped the exhaust out to a Borla Atak and gutted the cats because apparently one of them had a piece break off and get lodged into one of the mufflers and I didn't realize it (except for a horrible smell in the cabin I was having). The new sound is UNREAL. Anyway, here are a few pics for now. Thanks for looking guys

Now this is what I'm talking about.. I put two car lengths on an 6MT LS2 C6 with exhaust about a week ago and was honestly disappointed when one of the cars I idolize so much didn't just totally wreck me.. Definitely not the case with your specific Vette (now). Haha, congrats Doc

I can only imagine what the car feels like now. In the end, the smile on your face every time you drive it makes it worth doing. Dropping all that money sucks, but it's nice to know it's done right.

Bikes are insanely fast.

Check out this VMAX vs a 600whp cammed C6Z:

Basically with good launch the VMAX was able to slowly walk on a 600whp vette...so with the OP's 650whp vette he now has some chances to be able to keep up with some of the bigger bikes.

Still very awesome car though!

I should've been more specific, I pulled him in the 5-0.

D's Up, congrats on the new 5.0. I wish you the best of luck with her.

I still think the LS2 6MT is a bit faster, stock for stock, vs. a 5.0. I think you probably have the driver mod. Regardless, there is no doubt about it, the new Coyote 5.0 is a serious motor and the 1st serious Mustang since the 03/04 Cobra. Best of luck again with her.....

I couldn't have said it better myself. Thanks Predator and sweet ride yourself. It looks like you dropped a lot of money and did it right as well. Best of luck with your sweet ride

The Tial Q (loud) Blow off valve I chose makes it sound like an airplane about to take off. It's a sound like no other. And the Borla Atak is the perfect exhaust--no drone/quite in the cabin but sounds like a full fledged race car on the throttle. Any particular angle you would like me to mount the GoPro?

I cammed C6 Z06 only makes about 540 whp, and a good Head/Cam/Intake Manifold (H/C/I) Z06 makes about 580-600 whp (600 being a really aggressive cam, great heads, a ported FAST 102, and aggressive tune, so I think the guy in the vid is exaggerating with that 600 whp comment. My C6 is definitely a bike killer, if I could get some traction!!!

Thanks Steven!! After you get long tube headers, I reccommend going with a blower. But it took me over 6 years to make that decision, so enjoy your sweet C7 for awhile before you go the route I went. You won't regret it when you do.

BTW, since I need more tire, I went ahead and ordered your XO Verona wheels, 19 X 9.5 in the front and 20 X 11 in the rear, but in Matte black. I'm not going stock tire size and going to try to fit the biggest rear wheels I can on those 11" width rears.

Your tuner didn't do a baseline run?

Thanks fstty, that's why I'm working on picking up Steven Bell's 20 X 11 vs. my current 19 X 10. Only problem is I won't have run flats on any more and with no spare, I'm a little worried.....

Steven,

Did anyone tell you the widest rear tire you can fit on those XO Verona rear wheels?? I can't seem to get a straight answer from anyone. The best answer I've gotten is 305/25/20. Have you heard anything different? I still don't think 305's are going to cut it with 650 whp. For now, the car is undriveable in the cold.

When the Meth sprays under boost, I think I'm getting around 10-11 lbs of boost.

That's why I went with a Centri blower instead of an IM mounted supercharger. The latter adds a bunch of low end torque and these cars already have too much low end torque stock (forget adding an IM mounted blower on top of it). Centri blowers give nice mid range torque boost and then all top end horsepower, the way it's meant to be!

No. The answer he gave me was "we know what these cars dyno stock, so why waste our time." lol Didn't like that answer, but oh well. He said I would add over 200 whp, and he was not lying.

Should be alright, still waiting on the police report for the accident though.. Honestly, I only owned the car for two weeks when it got hit and it just turned me off of it a great deal. I'm hoping some mods will bring back the zest. If not, it'll be up for sale in a few months.

I'm sorry about your troubles man. But on the bright side it's not your fault and you're not hurt.

The 5.0 loves mods almost as much as the LSx series. It will DEFINITELY bring that zest back. I've hear from SVTP that the Boss Intake Manifold is God's gift to man. I wish you the best of luck again my friend. Keep us updated.

BTW, these are those 305's. The Fed Ex guy was so funny, he was like "what the heck you have in that garage?!" Ordered from tire rack yesterday afternoon, and already here. Big :thumbup::thumbup: to tire rack. The Michelin PSS's in this size are back ordered from September with a bleak future, so I went with the premier Pirelli's (Pzero Nero GT's Max Summer/performance tire). I know the regular P-Zero's are nothing to write home about, but I hear these are a different animal. Waiting on SB's XO Verona's in Matte Black now.....

Hoping to look as good as this.....

Awesome.. Cant wait to see the new tires/rims on. Should look great.

I got a similar look from UPS when they dropped off my 4 275/35/18s. He asked what car i was hiding that they were going on, he had the look when i pointed to my TL ( and i still am traction limited in 1st and 2nd, Good luck with 650hp lol.

Thanks fsttyms1. SB was right. These are hands down the best looking Corvette specific wheels (esp for the money!)

I can imagine the UPS guys face when you pointed to your TL You're 2G is a total sleeper man, love it. The FWD, however, is your only problem. Man, I loved my old 2G TL-S. I remember being one of the 1st ones to have it on the road in April of 2001 and all the comments I used to get. With the Comptech Headers/Exhaust and AEM CAI it used to scream for a "lowly" 3.2 V6 (and also used to smoke the stock 17" front tires on demand. It was such a better overall driver than the 3G TL I got after (no comparison). Better engine, trans (although made of glass), and steering. How much power are you putting down in your 2G TL?? I think I would still have my 2G TL-S if my bro didn't total it; I loved that car that much. Continued best of luck with your 2G

^^^^ Thanks man! Sorry I haven't been around-I'm the Public Address Announcer for the ECHL hockey teams here in Kansas City. We've had LOTS of games during the holidays.

I'm really glad you like the wheels-they look awesome! I'm not sure what the widest tires size can be-I've got my OEM's still on mine.

I had a rough year; this was my Christmas present to myself....I just went a little overboard. lol

I'm done spending on this car/modding it. I'm only paying for stuff that breaks from now not, but I don't know with 650 whp now

I finally found the USB charger for my Go Pro, I'll get some vids up soon....wish you were closer by to hear it in person. The sound is unreal.....

Well Doc, it's come to my attention that I may have an issue with premature modding. That's how I got wheels and tires on within the first month.

That and the fact that I bet they're only a quarter of the price of your set-up helps a lot too.

So, when are we getting these bad boys on and when are you gonna ship the Vette to San Diego for me?!

Updates with the tires on, STAT!! I just noticed that you've got the same power level I'm shooting for. I hope to have the 5.0 supercharged in 2-3 years time (if I keep it that long) and I'll be aiming for 650-700whp on pump.

Just be careful man, when you increase stock levels by 200-300 wheel horsepower/torque, you may need to upgrade other things. I have/had/am realizing this the hard/financial way. Budget for another (at least) 1/3 to 1/2 of the bill of the supercharger with install.

PS, when I first clicked...I thought you were the guy that kept claiming he was nailing all the cougars because of his red corvette...but I only read about that in passing and wasn't sure of the user name. LOL...when I started reading your posts though, I was like, nawwwww...this ain't him!

No joking brother

Anyway, like I was saying at this power level, you have to start upgrading other parts. My clutch began "sticking" and not coming up off the floor on higher RPM shifts, so I had to send the car back to East Coast Supercharging (ECS). Of course, I need to upgrade to a Mantic 9000 series twin disk clutch (handles up to 1100 wtq!) with flywheel, slave cylinder and install a remote bleed kit.

I'm now $ 17.6K into the build WITHOUT the rims and tires

The wheels look great with the Corvette Center caps I bought additionally...can't wait to get the car back and mount them on.....

Anyway, I've definitely changed a lot since then. I hope we all have (at least those that are still around on the forum). I know for a fact there is one that hasn't....
