Ever had a bad feeling about parking at a certain spot?

I live near my parents, and use the extra driveway they have to park my Mini because I hate parking it on the street. One night I get home and my father parked the Civic on the end of the 3 car driveway, so I couldn't park in the driveway without having to move the car first. I was too lazy to go up into their house to get the key to move the car, so I parked it on the street, with my usual worried mind reminding myself how much I hate parking on the street. There's a reason why my car doesn't have a blemish on the bumpers (NY is notorious for bumper damage from parking). Anywho, I reluctantly parked on the street and went into my apt.

I wake up the next morning, and this is what I see:

The thieves smashed the driver's window too. I don't recall if he was smart enough to put wheel locks on his 19" Sport equipped G37. If he didn't have wheel locks, they may have broken the window to search for the locks. Who knows, and who cares

Why don't I care? Because it's the same pothead neighbor of mine that keeps me from opening my porch door to get some fresh air because he's always smoking cigarettes or pot on the porch and even with my door closed, it still emanates into my apt and stinks up my place too (Link to thread HERE ).

I asked where they could possibly have gotten those bricks from, and then notice a few bricks missing from the other neighbor's garden. I tell ya these thieves got some balls...

This is the part of living in Brooklyn that I hate. Granted I have wheel locks, and they are hidden in my car somewhere, and I don't have anything in my car exposed, but I did have my V1 stuck on the window, but thankfully it was not noticed.

Oh well..

Gee Ed, you sound real broken up about it.

Glad your own car was OK. Even out in the country I make sure my cars and trucks are secure. No one has any respect these days, and some of them will brazenly try to take what isn't theirs.

Sucks, regardless of who it happened to. Damn. But I understand your concern...I would have anxiety if I had to park on the street all the time. I've been to NYC many times and can never get over how beaten and destroyed the cars are there.

I never understood this whole wheel lock thing, doesn't almost every auto parts store have wheel lock removal tools "just incase you lose your key"?
And especially for stealing wheels they would need a jack and a breaker bar at least anyways, so whats so hard about bringing some wheel lock removal stuff, they most likely scoped out the car before they did it anyways.

Terry, you lock up your vehicles all the time?
Because i live in Winnipeg where i always lock everything, but have worked in smaller towns in Manitoba and people out there always look at me weird when i lock my car.
Some people out there even leave the keys inside their vehicles, and have had other people in the town take a vehicle for urgent reasons and return it few hours later

Uhh. No. Logically speaking, why would they sell a wheel lock AND a universal wheel lock removal tool in the same store to the same consumer? I know that there are universal lock removal adapters, but I don't think it can be easily acquired. When you buy a wheel lock kit, it comes with documentation if you needed to order a new key if you lost yours. Otherwise, the few situations I ran in with customers that lost their lock, the repair shop would have to break the lock with certain tools. It would take them longer to break the lock though.

The way I see it, if someone wants your wheels, they will do ANYTHING to take them. Having wheel locks just acts as a deterrent. They can still remove the locks by force and with more time, but in most cases, they want to do this quickly without being seen, so they would usually walk away from a car with locks, unless they really want those wheels

Yeah, even out in the country. I'm also surrounded by a fence and alarm system, but I just feel better having everything secured. I know plenty of people, however, that leave their keys in the car and don't lock their doors at night too.

You can buy wheel lock removal kits or a product I think was called gator grips that have notches that can grab into almost any sort of wheel lock. The only ones that are less prone to being taken off like this are the locks that are almost flush with the wheel and require thin-wall sockets to remove. But then again those kits can be hammered on but it'd cause quite a bit of noise!

Wheels locks are only a deterrant and can be removed easily. One time I lost my wheel lock key and took it to a local shop to remove the locks. It took 10 minutes to remove all 4 wheel locks! The mechanic just hammered a wheel lock removal key onto each wheel lock and air-gunned it off. And you can buy universal wheel lock removal kits at almost any auto stores.

I guess karma has found your neighbor, eh?

Even living in very safe countries (both Japan and Germany), I never liked parking on the street and always garage my cars when I can. This is where a very loud alarm is a good thing.

I don't disagree with you...But keep in mind that any potential thief isn't driving around with compressors and air guns to aid them in the wheel removal. That's why a wheel lock equipped vehicle would more than likely be ignored, unless they HAVE to have those wheels and can't find another easier job..

I knew it wasn't over...

Since this incident, I heard another G on the block had it's wheels stolen, and I don't know where it happened, but I noticed on Sunday the entire driver's side of my Civic was keyed.

I hop into my Mini this morning, where the car is parked all the way into the driveway, open the door, and I see my change case that's normally in my center armrest on my driver's seat, and the center armrest is partially open. I sit in the car and see my radar detector is gone, along with the savvy add-on, my sunglasses are gone, the f%cker even took my f%cking breath mints! I had the V1 semi hardwired, where I had the wires neatly wedged into the molding going town the pillar and making it's way to the OBDII port and savvy unit, and all that stuff is gone. They also took a black messenger bag I had in the back seat which had the rest of the V1 attachments in it. At least they left my container of mixed nuts that I got from the girl scouts . They didn't trash the interior at all. Glove box they might have taken something out, but I didn't really have anything in there for them to take. Looks like they took my PBA card that was custom made with my company name printed into the front of it though, I think I put one in there but didn't see it. I then get out to check my trunk, where I have my bowling balls, it looks like they pulled the bag out and went through it but didn't take anything. They did scuff the upper part of my bumper while taking out the 50lb bowling bag though . I ALWAYS lock my door, I'm OCD like that where I always second guess myself and double check any door that I walk out of that needs to be locked to make sure I locked it. I looked at the window glass and see a bunch of fingerprints all over the edge of the door. They had to have pried through it to get into the car.

This has never happened to me with a car in my driveway. NEVER! I can bet that whoever took those wheels probably saw and marked my car that day and came back for it. Really f%cking annoyed.

Worst of all, I called a few people I know with connections to the proper authorities, they are saying to make a police report, but not much else will be done. I asked if fingerprinting was standard issue, and am told that they usually don't care enough to do it. If I fill out a report, then I tell them that my fuzzbuster was stolen...seriously? This blows, dude.

Alarm time.

Either that, or it's time to move into a neighborhood where you have a garage. A locked garage.

F*&*ing thieves.

Well now that you know they're patrolling your neighborhood daily/weekly, it's time to get a bat, a defense attorney and learn to play baseball.... with peoples heads .

Its sucks, a lot. The feeling of being violated is just horrible. Had my accord broken into in college...they sawzalled out my stereo, took a book of CDS, and a humidifier that was in the trunk...but left a pair of $300 dollar oakleys worth more than the head unit

I'd be thankful they didn't really damage any of your stuff.

Its been like 12 years...but I've been pretty careful since that day to never leave anything sitting in my car. Nothing in plain site. And I always take my V1 out.

It sucks that we have to do this...but people are vermin.

I put the V1 in like 3 weeks ago and because of the Savvy and the way it was wired, I figured I would leave it up. I never leave it in the car, and I never leave anything in plain site. The bag in the back seat was on the floor behind my seat, and with my tint and as far back that my seat is, you can't see it at all, even in bright light. Just so annoyed that I didn't take the V1 out...I can guarantee that it was seen when the car was parked on the street at the start of this thread. Sucks. $600 down the drain. Now I have to buy another fucking V1 and the Savvy again. AND I just updated it a few months ago too. REALLY Sucks.

Sucks man.

Was the V1 visible in the windshield? Not sure if it helps, but mine is mostly hidden behind the tint strip.

Damn, it really sucks to hear stories like this. I can't believe those thieves would hit again. They must know the area well or possibly even live in your neighborhood.

I only had 1 car break-in many, many years ago. The thieves took some audio cassettes (when we were still using those things!) and some gum. Unbelievable.
