Compare to new LaCrosse
Compare to new LaCrosse
There's an ad showing at the bottom of some threads inviting you to compare the new LaCrosse to the TL. I decided to take a look, and here's the advantage to the LaCrosse:
"2009 Acura TL 5-Spd AT
The Buick LaCrosse features more rear seat legroom than Acura TL."
I'm not dissing the new LaCrosse, it looks good in the ads, and God knows we need a healthier GM here in the Midwest, but how many of us would make the choice based on that particular advantage? Maybe somebody who plays a lot of basketball with tall friends? GM may need a new ad strategy.

Wait until you have to shove a few car seats in the back seat. My 2nd gen TL is pretty good but my in-laws had a 3rd gen and I literally had to ride with my knees banging into the steering wheel because the front seat would hit the car seat.
It looks nice, but how it drives and handles would be my question. I read in a review somewhere that the transmission was very jerky or not smooth, something to that effect. It might have been an Edmunds review, I'm not quite sure. But it does look nice from the outside, and that's a good start.

Tons of people shop around for the most rear leg room. Its important to many.
I think the fact that Buick now has the balls and the panache to even compare their car to the TL now is proof enough that they've made leaps and bounds. How many of you were even considering, just a little bit, even looking or test driving a Buick 5-10 years ago?
Now they just need to convince people that what they offer is worth the price of admission.

GM is finally doing what should have happened 15 years ago: trust their Opel arm to design quality vehicles, then import that design into USDM GM products.
We'll see how this goes in the next few years, as that will be the barometer.

My in-law hated all my Acuras including the RL because of the constricted rear seat room. The 3G TL was the worst offender. Luckily, I didn't care as front room was always adequate and that's what the wife's Pilot is for.
They still complain of the same problem in the CTS-V, too.
Gets me out of chauffeur duty.

This Buick is definitely a stunner. If I were to replace my TL now it would probably be a G37 sedan, maybe a 4G.
GM products are better by far and I really want to pull the trigger on a G8 GXP, but the owner of the dealership decided to keep the car back in July for his personal stable.

For me, the problem is the price. $33K for a Buick, or I can go to the BMW dealer and get a 330i for a base price of $29.4K (yes, it is tourist and diplomatic sales). Buick would have to do a bit better.
The cheapest 328 "starts" at 32 and goes from there. The next up 335 starts at 42. Well outside of a fully loaded buick. You would have a hard time finding a BMW that was bare bones enough to come in at the starting price.

Of course, once you add options, the price goes up. I know this is a bit off topic.
If you have anything to do with the US military, or US State Department, you can purchase at the price I quoted (for the 328, my bad) of $29K starting price. They have a better price than the US dealers do. All you have to do is be in a country where they (BMW) has a presence (like in Germany, it is Pentagon car sales) and be associated as I said above, even a contractor.
