Pointless bump but I'm bored and there's not much going on at work. I washed the car yesterday morning for the first time in about 6 months. Thankfully ceramic coating really does help.
I've put about 1k miles on the car in that same time period, so that just reinforces my decision to get rid of it and go carless for the next 6-9 months. My gf nor myself will be going back into the office until at least next summer, so it just doesn't make sense having two depreciating assets doing nothing but costing us money on insurance and taxes. I tried selling it as is but didn't get many people that were seriously interested. Lots of out of staters that just wanted more pics and then disappeared.
So, I finally ordered the parts I needed to swap the suspension out (bump stops, strut mounts, bolts). That should all be here by the weekend, so the photo above will most likely be the last of the car with that setup. I'll be removing struts, springs, wheels and diffuser and maybe putting the resonator back in this weekend, weather permitting. The goal is to have the car sold by mid-September. Downpipe, engine mounts, and intercooler will most likely be the last parts to come off.
The good news is that despite the car getting older and having a thousand more miles on it, the value increased according to NADA and KBB compared to a few months ago. I've gotten a decent offer from Carvana too, but I want to shop it locally to see if I can milk some more out of it.

Sort of like my truck. Oh yeah probably should wash it, been 6 moths or so. 22 Years old now always lived outside still looks good with minimal care. Maybe that why it still looks OK.
Truck was a base 4X4 5MT V6 stripper with two options, the plastic bed & the wheels.

Nice! I always liked those Rangers for some weird reason.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to swap the suspension this weekend. I went to VW yesterday about 40 minutes before the parts deptartment's advertised closing time, but they had already closed for the day, and they're closed today. I was not pleased. I'll try to swing by tomorrow at some point and maybe I can swap the suspension after work during the week in an attempt to stay on schedule.

There was a salesperson that I asked and he said "maybe they adjusted their hours because of covid, did you check the website?" Yep, that's where I found their closing time
What sucks is yesterday would've been perfect to do the swap too because it was low 80s and humidity was practically non-existent

Agree, been avoiding the garage & not looking at the bellhousing sitting on the floor, its been like a sauna.

I've got all the suspension parts sitting in the garage and the windshield has been replaced (caught a pretty nasty rock chip about a month after the windshield was tinted, filling it made it worse). Now I need the rain to stop so I can swap everything out. The bad news is that I need to have the tint replaced on three windows due to a defect in the film. This started over the last two months and has rapidly gotten worse. The tint shop is warrantying it, but they can't get me in until the 25th My plan of getting rid of the car before October may not come to fruition, but I'm still working towards it.
In other news, the search for a wagon is still on...
Dude. You gotta get rid of that Alphabets poster and get one with shitboxes on it for the letters. You're going to end up with a daddy's girl with expensive tastes and that won't end well for your bank account.
I know how those are made!
Congrats, Morgan you non pulling out SOB!
Car will sell...that thing is pristine.
Thanks J!

You're looking at it the wrong way - if she falls in love with Porsche's or Volvo 850Rs or Integrale's, I get to guilt Casey into letting me get one to keep our innocent little girl happy, thus making me happy!

Thanks! @CLtotheTL32 found a seller on Etsy that makes them (link). I also have these:

She's due February 5th. It seems so far away, but the last 3-4 months (since we found out) have gone by incredibly fast. My weekends have been eaten up by getting the house ready so I can hopefully relax come the third trimester.
I pulled the for sale ad; not much serious interest in the car with the mods. Plus I got a pretty solid offer from Carvana, so I feel I can get a good amount selling it to a local dealer stock so I don't have to deal with the stress. But I'm also considering listing it on Cars & Bids. I'll see what the local dealers will do first.
I guess since you've known for a while, this doesn't change your plans of being a one-car household for a bit?
It does not. We both work from home, and will continue working from home until next summer. Casey will be on maternity leave for three months, and I'll be taking my leave in 2 week portions for the first few months, so we can easily have one car for some time. If I go the X3M route, I will most likely place an order for it around March, since they take about 2-3 months to fulfill. I still have alerts set up for an E63 Estate, but with current interest rates and deals to be had on new cars, it doesn't really make sense to go used (at the current price point for the E63s I'm looking at).
Trying, but used rates + the lack of estates on the used market make it difficult. At a given time, there's less than 10 for sale under $100k, and typically 3 or 4 of them are lemon buy-backs. I understand that MB buys E classes and S classes back pretty regularly to keep customers happy (and usually for small issues), but it's still a gamble I don't want to risk. I can get a brand new X3M Comp for around $10k less than the cheapest used E63 Estate, plus a much better financing deal.

This is 100% my plan. I've been stockpiling car and driver magazines for bedtime reading material lol.
Also, definitely it goes by super fast. Just seems like we found out yesterday and now baby girl could arrive at any moment. Glad the crib is done and the rocking chair is nearing completion but it has been a tough and stressful time to get things completely ready. Definitely get things ready ahead, don't do what we did haha.

(speaking specifically of 2018+ E63s btw)
And you get a warranty.
I'm pretty sure I'll end up with the same (X3M) or a Macan next but what I really want is the Rivian R1T, we'll see when they'll be willing to sell me one...
I still want that Rivian IPO so I can let that buy my next next car lol
They said they won't be doing one at least until after the truck and SUV launch. They have more than enough capital to get the ball rolling so why dilute ownership?
I'd also for sure be buying in if they were going IPO.
Also, in case this matters to you, I can confirm that an infant car seat does fit into the backseat of a 2018 Golf R though you need to scoot the front seat up a bit. This is for a blue one though, not sure if the white ones are different.
Lol I know a car seat will fit without issue. I'm just ready to move on, plus it'll be a bit tight going on road trips with everyone and the dog, plus luggage.

I guess this means I don't have to be quiet anymore?

And by a bit tight I mean impossible.
Oh yeah, definitely tight for anything more than a day trip. If you don't have a bigger car it would be impossible.

We have the CR-V but I die a little inside every time I drive it. I'd love for Casey to replace it with something a bit less comatose, but she's not having it lol
