To reiterate to what you alluded...
And the reason we don't get them is... THEY DON"T COMPLY TO US-EPA CODE.. so they are banned until they can either be modified to comply and certified by an ICI or they come of age (21 years).

I can't speak to anyone's experience other than mine.
Also, they were a 2004 Honda CR-V 4x & 2001 Audi A3 1.8T so neither was anything special.
Shiett.. fuck yeah.. that's a go.
Are the XF-S AWD stout?
I know they've been around for a while.
One thing I've noticed is ... older Merc's (even the E55) has not aged well at all.
I can't see Morgan going from a Golf R with the latest creature comforts to that.
E63 on the other hand ...? That's an upgrade.

You are a master link provider & that's great. I have driven two cars through the Nogales border, had them inspected, paid the fee and registered them in Arizona.

Drive one of those European ones across the border that isn't allowed to be imported here and report back
If you can put up with the insanely slow 5AT, they're torque monsters with bolt-ons and have very long gearing .. I think 3rd makes it to around 130mph
I haven't looked into it all that much but recently realized how cheap they are. You can get a fully decked out CPO 2017 or 2018 with 10k miles on the clock for $40k including a 7 year 100k mile warranty, that's a slam dunk good deal.
I love the W211, but...This. The Golf, while just a lowly economy hatchback, is very well appointed. It's hard for me to go backwards from those comforts on a daily.
Granted, it's a wagon, and nobody wants wagons - so there's probably a decent amount of wiggle room.
But I guess if you like a lot of pork and potatos, then you'll love it there. I kinda got sick of it though, and the depth of flavor was lacking.
Beer, yes. Food, noooooo. Maybe we weren't going to the best places in Munich and Stuttgart, but by the fourth meal there, we couldn't wait to get to Paris (and Paris did not disappoint).

I had some of the best food in my life in Munich! Granted it wasn't German food, though the roast chicken is pretty good as are the wieners, it was other ethnicities, but gawd dayum it was good. Some awesome pizza paired with an Augustiner and I'm in heaven.

There's one for sale just north of Houston that I was looking at. It's basically a stripped out model with just the warm weather pack, but there's a weird gap between the hood and the bumper. The carfax is clean, so maybe it's just the angle of the photo, but it's not something I'm willing to fly out to find out about. It would be a fun drive back to VA though; I've got friends in Nashville, so I can stop halfway. But, the R isn't ready to be offloaded yet anyway.
Those have come down in price quite a bit, but I really want a 2018+, mainly for the updated interior, the 4l v8tt and the 9at.
When we visit a country, we typically try to stick to the local delicacy - not pizza
See, you know what's up.

As long as it's European food in Europe, it's all good. Not like I wouldn't have some BBQ outside of Texas or bourbon outside of Kentucky... Also, you'll find some of the best Indian food, outside of India, in Europe and especially the UK.
I wouldn't say the food in Germany is bad, just kind of boring and not great. French food is absolutely better and I'll fight anybody that says otherwise
It's that dilemma where at least me personally, I feel silly going to a foreign country and eating non-local cuisine. Or like going to any country and eating McDonalds.

Yeah as Sam said, there's more than just pork and potatoes. Chicken, veal, fish, beef, duck, awesome vegetables like white asparagus, red cabbage, sauerkraut, and spaetzle... I love a good sauerbraten with a dark beer gravy. I had some amazing fish while on the Rhine and you can just take a butter knife and slide it down the spine and remove all the bones at once. And yes there are a lot of great Italian restaurants in Germany. A customer of ours took us to his favorite in town and it was authentic and delicious. And great breakfasts like a warm croissant with a slice of cheese and tomato. SO GOOD. Ok I'm drooling, enough digression!

WTF?
I've been in one. I'm sure they're a blast to drive. If I were to get one, it would have to be a manual, and at that price (they're still in the $50-65k range) there's so many other options with nicer interiors.
Yeah there's one with 8k miles and it's listed in the $70k range. There's another at Carmax with 50k miles, and they're asking $51k - which isn't bad tbh if you can get it with a warranty.
But, it's still not exactly what I'm looking for.

E55 Estate.... Bit older, but get that S/C whine & IIRC those are pretty solid engines.

E63 is the answer.
