I built 3 or 4 other Porsches after it, including a gorgeous Targa GTS. It's a crazy ladder - you build a T up to the price of a GTS, then think, well might as well just use that money on a GTS. Then you build a GTS to the price of a Turbo. Then a GT3...

The thing is you think "okay, I'm going to be driving this car for a long time, so it better have in it what I think I will want." That includes a nicer interior (full leather, not standard which is 1/2); a bigger fuel tank; Rear axle steer as I plan on tracking it at Watkins Glen with the local Porsche Club instructors; retain the old school look by choose Fuchs-styled wheels (Porsche Exclusive Wheel design); color? Not an $11K option I'll be picking for Paint to Sample; don't need carbon fiber brakes, don't need back seats (more room for luggage); 4 way seats are comfortable and move up and out of the way a lot quicker than electric seats which can only be the 18 ways which I hear are not that hot. Some things are just ridiculous: fuel cap, CF roof, fixed CF bucket seats, $3K headlights, etc.
I picked the standard interior (whatever marketing term they've give to it lol), the upgraded headlights (not the $3k one, whatever is between that and the standard), the blue paint, the 18 way seats, red seat belts, the blacked out tail lights...and I think that was it. I added in the back seats but that's free lol.
I wouldn't track it so the rear wheel steer wasn't a big deal to me. I actually really liked the base wheels so that was good too. Like you said, a lot of the stuff is ridiculous.
None of this actually matters for me like it does for you.
FWIW, I really like your spec. It's very classy and has all the right stuff for what you want to do with it and none of the frivolous BS that usually accompanies Porsche specs.
So with the full SportDesign Package, you don't get the model designation on the rear of the car (1st pic) but you do if you just order the SportDesign Front Fascia (2nd pic). Thinking the Carrera S wheels specially made for the T (2nd pic) may be the more accurate way to order the car.
Both look great, I give a slight edge to the darker wheels in #2 & like the full 911 Carrera T badge over the just 911 badging.
Prefer the rear bumper in #2 as well

I ditched Burmester after reading a lot of thoughts about its worth in a car like this (less sound insulation, wonderful mechanical noises/exhaust, etc.) and added rear seats. Also added the Carrera T Interior package in Lizard Green, I think it looks pretty great. The configurator must've been updated as the addition of full SportDesign package doesn't omit the "911 Carrera T" on the back any more.
I asked this question over on Rennlist: Rear of cabin capacity question: Having never owned a 911 and waiting for my T allocation, I'm tempted to order it without rear seats in the hopes it will accommodate luggage better. There will never be more than 2 people in this car so I don't care if there aren't seating spaces back there. I anticipate keeping this car forever too so resale is not an issue. Anyone know if rear capacity goes up when the seats come (stay?) out?
The overwhelming responses said you don't gain luggage space, you gain a couple of pounds (big deal) and flatter surfaces to hold suitcases when the backs are folded down. Secondly, I think if I go with a nearly $7K interior upgrade to the T package shown, the least I could do is get 4 seats vs. just 2!
No idea about insurance differences, that wouldn't be a driving factor for me regardless.

I seem to recall on the 996 the rear seats (bottoms at least) were removable pretty easily. Is the 992 still like this, where you could remove them & have the full capacity, and put the seats in, in the even someone wanted to contort themselves back there?
Anything is possible with the right amount of time and effort.
I'd order with seats. Easier to take them out in the future if you choose than it is to add them back in. I doubt you're going to notice the weight difference in any driving situation outside of a competitive track day.
Is there a timeline you have before the spec has to be final
Once I get an allocation, I'll get a link called Track Your Dream which will give off various codes regarding order status. At some point I will receive a "Lock Date" which is as it says, the last date I can submit changes to my order. That is a ways off still.
I've had a heated steering wheel in every car since 2000. Best option ever.
While it's only been in the 40-50s in the morning, it's definitely nice. Pretty much only need it for 5 minutes of so, then the wheel's almost too hot. Same with the heated seats, quickly go from level 3 to 1, pretty much before I'm out of the neighborhood.
Definitely didn't have such quick heating in my F150 or the Flex.
Yeah, my 650 wheel has two settings and on a cold day starting at position 2 I don't get far before I have to turn it down or off. Same with the seats. My CX9 seat is waaaay hot but my wife complains the passenger side doesn't seem to heat up as well.
No experience in the passenger seat, but the Flex (2013) never get very hot, probably from use/mileage. My 2012 Malibu gets pretty hot, but rarely gets used.
