Yeah garage doors are next, on order and should be here/installed in a few weeks. We have a lot of trees as the back 3 acres of our property was my wife's grandfather's Xmas tree farm that have been left untouched. Beyond that the town bought the 700+ acres and made it permanent green space so lots of wildlife in the backyard daily.

Well, not all around . . . the road we live on used to be a quiet country road but now there's a bunch of new neighborhoods down the street and busy. It doesn't help that our house was built in 1852 35' from the road when the only noise were horse hoof sounds.

Yeah, minor thing.
In my case, the interstate is close enough that we can hear, but not see it. Loud when the wind is right, but just a dull background noise.
Our neighborhood is 1970s vintage.

quiet country road you say? Perfect place to test out my straight piped Subaru or civic DX.
that’s pretty awesome having all that green space around you. I would love a bigger lot, but hard to find in my area. There were a few houses that went for sale not too far on 1 acre lots, but they were in flood zones and I don’t really want to deal with that.

Im pretty close to a large road too, 1/2 - 3/4 mile as the crow flies, you definitely hear it. Especially on nice days, all the sport bikes are rocketing through or other muscle cars. Luckily you can’t hear it in the house, just outside.

There's a douchebag down the street with a GT350 running an exhaust that has managed to get him pulled over and given 41 tickets so far. We own 5 acres, approx. 400'W x 1000' deep. I like people but don't want to hear them when I'm home.

Also, tamest and most sensible mustang driver, am I right @SamDoe1

Anyways, one day if I work really hard, I too will live on a bigger lot with more garage space.

10-15 acres is my goal. We're currently on 1/2 acre up from the 1/3 at our old house.

You need to get a can of STUFF, the spray insulating foam. It works wonders on loud exhausts.

There are always those in the "hey, look at me" crowd that need a lot of attention, aka those suffering from SPS.

I like exhaust noise when I am at the track, but all my vehicles have stock exhausts.

Can't overly disagree there.
My Midget is a bit on the loud side [effectively straight piped with the OE silencer/resonator at the end], but probably quieter than the average Mustang or Harley going through the neighborhood.
Even still, I short shift it until I'm out of the neighborhood.

Let me play you the song of my people lol.

My exhaust is stock though so it's not AS loud...but it's still pretty loud lol. I tend to keep it in quiet mode until I leave the neighborhood to not be that douche with the loud car.

Can you imagine going from 5th to 2nd or 6th to 3rd while traveling fast? It would be the same sensation I got when my CL-S tranny twice, auto-shifted from top gear to 2nd while going at least 60 mph. Nearly went through the windshield both times.

Ha ha ha! I forgot about that, mine had the same feature. Then it wanted to stay in low gear all the time…

Or you might have had a piston come through the hood.

Back in the days when I instructed, one of the other instructors at the club had a '79 Mustang in a manual and the tach had no redline. Ford trying to save $$$ put the same dash in the car no matter what engine was in it. So the next time he was at the dealer for servicing, he asked the advisor about the the lack of a redline and asked, "can I just take the RPM up till I see a piston blow through the hood and then just back off the RPM a bit to be on the safe side". Service advisor was not amused.

Started up the 911 yesterday and let it run about 10 minutes before jumping in and revving it up to 3500 rpms (limited) exhaust valves open and closed.

Rev it UP! Volume up time.

You are best off leaving it stored during the winter instead of starting it now and then.

Fresh oil and oil filter change, increase tire pressures, on a battery mintainer, install a quality cover on a clean vehicle and leave it parked till it comes out in the spring.

Love the new storage space. Has to be nice to have that out of the snow in the winter now.

The custom shift knob to match the interior is sweet.

Thanks Colts, the ironic thing, especially for Buffalo and the WNY area, is there is zero inches of snow on the ground. Last December we had 80"+ of snow; this December, just under 6". The garage doors/openers get installed next Tuesday finally.

Lets hope another week of no snow for you. I've driven the I-81 at 20 mph due to a lack of visibility, thanks to lake effect. Last month you had cars and tractor trailers driving into each other on the I-90. You really have to wonder if there is any brain activity happening between them ears.

I don't have electric service in the garage yet, not till next Spring hence the occasional start-up routine I'll be undertaking. I-81 gets triple lake effect snow when the conditions are just right. I've driven 7 miles in 3 hours on side roads to get off that highway in the past as I had a lot of clients up on the Mohawk Indian Reservation ("Awkwesasne" Land of the Dove). I was so glad to get to Massena and chill out in a hot tub in my hotel.

Reminds me of my first years in Rochester for school. Everyone said you haven't seen a normal winter we barely got snow. Then my second to last year it snowed like all the time so I finally got to see what they were talking about. Crazy to get 80+ though.

From Motor Trend

Best: 2023 Porsche 911T

The Porsche 911T is a gift to driving enthusiasts. Powerful and raw, you'd be hard-pressed to find a modern, new car as engaging as this for the money.

I was lucky enough to drive a Python Green example during our 2024 Car of the Year evaluations, and was quickly taken by this special machine. Wheeling the 911T around Hyundai's high-speed oval, I got into the throttle and rocketed up to the test track's top speed of 120 mph. Shifting from third to fourth gear at about 105 mph with the transmission's notchy gear lever was unbelievably satisfying.

Next, I took the green Carrera to the winding track, a spaghetti bowl of challenging and technical corners designed to upset a car's composure and evaluate ride and handling. The 911T exhibited unflappable poise and granted me one of the most satisfying drives of my life. I appreciated its confidence-inspiring brakes and delicious exhaust note.

Afterwards, Senior Editor Scott Evans told me to take it around our Figure 8 circuit, disable traction control, and go full throttle through the corners. I obliged and couldn't believe the grip that was at my disposal. I would have actually had to try to get the Porsche out of sorts. Naturally, the steering feel was direct and communicative.

When asked which car I wanted to take back to our hotel at the end of the day, I of course said I wanted to take the 911T. After a long day in the sun, I appreciated its supportive seating, stability at freeway speeds, and ability to make me feel cool behind the wheel. Porsche made a car that can satisfy at any speed and in every situation.

The 2023 911T is everything you need in a sports car in the modern era. The joy and excitement that it made me feel was reminder of exactly why I love cars. It was hands-down the best car I drove this year. —Billy Rehbock

Sweet! Congratulations, that looks very nice, I’m very envious of your garage space!

Side note, the spring logo on the green truck must be Clippy’s cousin (Microsoft office paper clip thing)

Managed to get it completely enclosed before we had a single, large snowstorm. Very unusual for the Buffalo, NY area at this time of the year. Thanks guys!

@Tech My medium long answer goes like this:
Growing up, Porsche, Ferrari and Lamborghini all seemed un-attainable so they were all in the same bucket. On my wall I had a Lamborghini Diablo though…
Then in 6th grade, my neighbors dad got an NSX, that car was worth a good bit more than our house, it felt surreal to even be able to touch it. So for a long time I loved (still do) the NSX.
Then years later, I was watching Top Gear with the wife and Clarkson reviewed the F430… That absolutely was the dream, I couldn’t stop gushing about it. By this point my extended family and myself were all starting to be doing a little better financially, so in 2012 my dad got a 991.1 Porsche Carrera S. It was the first Porsche I ever sat in. My dad used the 911 as an everyday car. Then shortly after, my cousin got a 997.2 GT3, his purpose was Autocross and track. During this time period we just had our 2nd child, focus wasn’t so much on sport cars, I was still admiring the Odyssey we just got, my dad’s and cousin’s Porsche didn’t have a TV in the rear, losers…

Fast forward a few more years, roughly 2016, I saw there was a PCA Autocross at an airfield near us. My dad was feeling generous so he let me drive his 911. I really liked the event and the people there were so welcoming and approachable.
Finally, late in 2017, I sat down with the boss (wife) and I brought up that I want to get a “toy” car. My wife asked me what I wanted to do with the car, (cars n coffee, Autocross, track toy, other…) but she put forward 3 requirements:
1) manual transmission (kinda ruled out the f430 because manual is super hard to find and pricy)
2) must be new or nearly new (rules out the f430 again and the NSX and Diablo )
3) not depreciate like an S-class

So, considering that my dad’s Porsche had been completely trouble free and so was my cousins (minus a broken driveshaft), the values also held up well, and I still remembered the great experience I had at the Autocross with that group, I went to look at a 2017 Carrera S manual. I went for a drive and honestly, it wasn’t what I was looking for, definitely not for $110k or whatever they were asking for it. I left disappointed, I preferred to see if I could buy my dad’s 911, but he didn’t seem too interested in parting with it. For a bit I thought, maybe I should just get a Miata or a C6 Z06 and do track days and racing schools with it… But then the 991.2 GT3 was released with a manual. Local dealer had a 991.1 gt3 with a PDK and high miles for sale. I went over, told them I have 0 interest in PDK, but I’m curious to see how the 991 generation gt3 goes. I didn’t even ask to drive it, it had the carbon bucket seats, I just wanted to hear the noise, feel the suspension and how the seats hug you. We didn’t even make it out of the parking lot, I knew that’s what I really wanted. Then, the games began on trying to get my hands on one. Finally in March-April of 2018 I got my first Porsche. Fast forward to now, I can say that I like the GT3 more today than the day I took delivery. Largely in part because I’m starting to get used to its cost/value. It’s still on my mind, but it’s not overwhelming like it was when I first got it.
I am also pleasantly surprised how little attention it gets.

Anyways, I’m not going to pretend I forgot about the F430, they have a Scuderia at my local Ferrari dealership, but Im not willing to part with the GT3 to get it.

I, too, had the 911 fascination as a kid. My dad had a couple prints in his office of 964 911s [a Targa & a Whaletail] that always were just the coolest cars to me.
For a while it was a 360CS that was top of the list, then a few passenger autocross rides in a 997 GT3 on slicks brought the 911 back into the mind. Absolutely hilarious to be in that car, accelerating where others were easing off.

For the time being, I'm happy with my little cheap Midget. If I were to jump in the P-car game, it'd probably be a Cayman.

I've been in love with Porsche 911's since I was 9 (1969) when my Uncle Gordie (a true "funcle") wheeled in to the driveway with his new one. In fact I named my T after him.

We would jump in it and go cruising around the countryside in it and at times and occasionally took it skiing about 40 miles away where I ski regularly now. He then got a 1st Gen Carrera Turbo in the line 70's (1975) which amped up my desires even more. I've been dreaming of, reading about and coveting 911's for literally as long as I can remember being car-crazy. Corvettes were not even an option for a nanosecond as they do zero for me and you see them everywhere. And if Vettes are "better" then how was I able to smoke a brand new Z06 at the Glen? He might've been faster down the straights but I was a lot quicker around the turns. Besides, Vettes to me are ugly, esp. the new drop top.

^ Probably because you're a better driver lol. Fast car does not always equal fast laps.

In any case, I'm probably going to angle for a 911 to eventually replace my Mustang. Has everything I want, including a back seat. Not a chance of being able to get a GT3 but I'd be fine with an S, T, or GTS if I can find one at a not insane price point.

100% agreed, I’m sure Chief is much faster driver. Even within pro drivers there is variations, but at a track day like that, huge delta.
How did the C8 z06 sound? I’ve only seen a couple and only one had the engine running as it was idling through a parking lot.

Edit: also, Chief, why are you ogling a 991.2 in red? Your spec on the 992 is incredible!

It sounded pretty good, especially when the transaxle wasn't spewing fluid all over anyone behind it. He took it to the dealer's after Monday's running then came back with it Tuesday, supposedly fixed. Nope. When I originally started looking at used, that 991 was something I was very interested in.
