Car vandalized, caught them on tape.. need advice

So this morning when I walked to my car, I noticed that the front bumper was sticking out... I thought I hit a curb and the screws came off, but it was weird that all 4 screws on both sides were missing. Then my gf noticed that the rear lip was gone too... it wasn't until then I realized my car was vandalized.

I then examined my home security camera videos, and saw two Hispanic young men stealing the lip spoiler (and dented my trunk in the process of doing so) and trying to steal the front lip (they weren't able to steal the front lip). I have their actions on video, even though it's that crystal clear...

I have already called police and am still waiting for them to come. I'm just not sure whether the police will take it as evidence. What concerns me most is that they'll be coming back to try to do more damage to my car.

Needless to say, I'm extremely pissed, I dont' even know what they can do with the lip spoiler, it's just an ebay m3 style lip... and as always, they did more damage to the car than what the parts are worth..

wow sucks to hear about what happened. its a tricky situation with cops. unless the video is crystal clear and u can clearly identify the to men, then chances are they can't do much. it'll just be another report they have to file. but i hope that isn't the case. is there any way u can park the car inside or backyard or something?

Cops are not going to do a whole lot from your surv. cam since it won't readily identify those two perps ....

Next time if you can indoor or something ... sorry to see these vandalism happening to one of us here ...

I'am very sorry to hear about your car, I wish people would just work for the stuff they wanted in life instead of stealing other people's stuff!!!!

Sorry to hear. I bet they were prob like 14-16 yr olds.

Unfortunately unless your lucky the police will not do anything. If they take fingerprints then u might get lucky if they get caught later on.

If the videos are as good as you say and can get a good face shot maybe try contacting your local news and see if they'll run a short story.

Police

AND

File an insurance claim. Give them the tape (or copy) and a copy of the police report.

Sorry, that was a typo, I meant to say that the video wasn't crystal clear.. i.e. kinda blurry.

Police came and left, I showed them the videos and photos, they took note of it but seems like they didn't even want to deal with it. Basically just took the report and left, which was what I had expected. Kinda told me straight up that they won't be doing anything, after these guys went ON my property and vandalized my car in my driveway. I don't feel so safe now.

The news is a good idea, but like you said, I'll probably need a good face shot.. my videos are probably too blurry (I'll be getting a better camera)..

The damage is probably not enough to warrant a claim with the insurance (pretty sure the damages cost less than my deductable), but is there any other particular reason that I should file with the insurance?

I'm almost tempted to post their faces over the internet... but I think they're too blurry...

I'm watching the videos again and what pissed me off the most is that the guy walked in and out of the camera field a few times, took the lip spoiler, ran away, and came back again 10 mins later... like he was just at a store shopping for more things to take.. It hurts to see him lay that screw driver on my car....

I guess I'll just sit and hope that they'll burn in hell instead..

We need more severe punishment for theft and robbery.

I despise cockroaches that steal human beings' property. Thieves rank lower than animals in my book. They are mere bugs and they should be treated as such. Chop off their hands or just mutilate them so they can never steal or even think about stealing again. This will also serve as a warning to others.

The world would be a better place.

I'm sorry for your misfortune.

Why not post the video here? I'm sure theres plenty of experts here that might be able to help with image quality or try and get a decent ID on them.. Just a thought. Don't think it'll hurt.

Maybe not. Just thinking if the Insurance company has to pay out an you've got video, they might push the PD to work a little harder.

But if there is little or no Ins payout, it probably won't matter.

BTW, this would be a comprehensive claim. Deductables on comp are often lower than collison.

That's a good point. Not sure if the following makes sense, but I'm just a little hestitant to post because I might be indirectly IDing my car/house to those theives, and possibly attract other thieves.. just feels like you can never trust the internet nowadays...

I really wouldn't care if I was living by myself, but for the protection of my family...

but if anyone might be able to help with the video/image quality, I would be more than happy to forward the video via email or something..

Consider hooking up a motion detector with a light and or alarm?

I've got a motion detector at my house as well, since I leave my V outside sometimes. Fracking thieves!

Got a couple of quick pics of the crooks from the video

That second pic is the guy prying away my lip spoiler, btw... makes me sick to my stomach

Oh, and turns out that a relative's boss at work is buddies with one of the heads of the NYC police department that deals with auto theft and stuff.. so maybe they might actually do something afterall (who knows...)

That second guy looks like he is in work clothes as either a parking valet or busboy/waiter.

I hope they police are able to help you. Thieves are the lowest of the low.

I think some the penalties for theft/vandalism that are employed in many Asian countries (i.e.: caning, amputation, etc,...) should be used stateside. Too bad the 8th amendment (read: 'cruel and unusual punishment' clause) kills any potential of more punitive measures for theft.

Update

To my surprise, today not one, but THREE detectives came to our place and took some evidence. I guess connections make all the difference.

They examined the car, did a quick sweep, etc. Left us a card, told us to contact them in a week or so.

Let's see what happens, I guess. Meanwhile, I'm shopping for some better surveilance system. Any suggestions?

Its not what you know, its who you know.

Hopefully they can get this resolved quickly and your car can get back to normal.

That holds true for just about everything in life surprisingly.

I can't even imagine how many extremely under qualified people are where they are because of that.

If anyone spots a 1st gen CGP TSX in NYC with a M3 lip on, driven by an individual that looks like those in the pics above, let me know
