Anyone know anything about repossession? This girl got her car repo-ed....

and needs help.

I guess she owes $2,200 on it. She has $1,400. I suppose that the car is back at the lot, waiting for her to pay it off.

I guess my question is, can you negotiate the outstanding balance the same way you negotiate everything else? She wants me to come with her to the lot, which is no problem, and I can probably work the process for her, but I don't know the nuances of reposessions.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think that they really negotiate. A co worker of mine had his car repo'd and they worked with him zero.

Come up with the money or you don't get your car back.. Period.

Its worth a shot though.

makes sense, but I'm sure that there can be an argument made depending on the age of the car and it's true value and all that, right?

Umm, pay it off.

If you don't pay it soon (within 60 days) the bank will own it and it will go to auction...

Have her call the bank and see if she can work out a final payment schedule.

Is all that is owed $2200? Or is that how far she is behind?

Who financed her car?

There is zero negotiation. The contract is in black and white, pretty much written in stone.

Not neccessarily. They can sell it within two weeks, if wanted.

Actually no, there's a lot of paperwork to be filed. Like like when you foreclose on a home.

By law they cannot sell it that quickly after default as there's no way they would fully own it yet. It takes time for them to actually have lawful possession by the states eyes.

I suppose if they knew someone who could push the paperwork through faster. Most states it's 4-8 weeks. It depends on the state your in.

Well, we, GMAC, can send the car to auction within two weeks if the amount quoted isn't paid.

Also, I assume this is the amount she owes because for your first repo in IL, the company must allow the customer to get the vehicle back for the past due amount if he/she has paid over 30% of the loan, including downpayment.

It looks like she owes $2200 while she only have $1400. Did she lose her job? Or she simply got a car that's way over her budget?

Ya, 14 days seems reasonable. I bet you have clauses in your loans people sign to agree to your terms of default.

What sucks for this girl is if she can't come up with the extra $800 and she puts the $1400 down she loses the $1400 and the car. And will hopefully not get sued/wages garnished for the remainder after the auction.

Right, if she doesn't have it all, might as well save it for a new car. Hopefully, she's not that far upsidedown that she will have a difficiency after the sale of the vehicle.

The girl, I think, bought a car that was too expensive. I don't know the details if that is the amount that she is down, or the total amount she owes.

I guess I'll ask that, but it seems that there is no compromise on the price.

she's pretty, and not a drama queen. seems like a nice person.

I'm not trying to marry her, and I'm not investing too much into this.

The moment she asks me for money, I'm ghost.

Here's how the story went:

At first, she asked me to come with her to the lot to help her negotiate a settlement. I told her that I asked around and repos can't be settled; they have to be paid in full.

I then asked her how much she had, and she said that she didn't have any money. Then I asked her what her plan was when we got to the lot. She said that she didn't have one. I asked her again where she was gonna get the money when we got there, and she said that she didn't know.....

She was alluding to things by saying that all she needed was some help and that noone knew her situation and that she had no problem paying someone back.....I knew what the deal was then, so I got off the phone.....

Trust me, I'll stick to it....she was hot, but I'm a player, anyway, so there's always more....

My opinion of women just got set back 5 levels....but then again, that's what I get for wasting my time with such a girl....

She's a stripper. You had faith in her that she wouldn't hit you up for cash? She asks guys to come along with her to get money from them FOR A LIVING.

As for her,

As for you, good job.... and of course

I didn't exactly have "faith." I didn't have anything invested into it, but some text messaging and a lunch, and wanted to see where it would go.....

Somehow, or another, she doesn't call me anymore....

Wonder why? :p

That truly sucks for the girl, that she cannot afford to pay for her car and now it's gone.

She must not be a very good stripper, or must not strip at a very popular joint if she doesn't even know when she can come up with $800..
If I was to take my clothes off and dance around in front of 50 year olds for a living, I'd expect to at least bring in over a grand a weekend alone..
