Anyone here have experience w/G35 Coupes?

Asking for a buddy of mine... he's thinking about getting one of the 2005 Infinity G35 Coupes w/ the sports package, 19" wheels, lux package and navi.

Any of you guys driven/own a 2005 (or older) G35? Sounds sweet w/ 298 hp on the 6 spd manual, but I couldn't help him with any first hand advice.

Also, how do they hold up compared to Acuras? He loves my CLS but they don't make em anymore

Thanks in advance!

Went from the CLS to the G35 coupe 6mt.

I have an '03 w/ Brembos... Car is amazing.

I can't say the CLS was a bad car... I had horrible troubles with the tranny (go figure). But the G is just a different car. Handling, acceleration and in my opinion, fit and finish. And while I had awesome Acura service, Infiniti has taken it to a whole new level.

It's a great car.

Thanks for the input guys.

How does the G35 Coupe compare with the Nissan 350 Z?

I know the 2005 has the same engine, and in the performance model of the 35, basically the same suspension....

Thanks!

The cars are essentially the same except for the obvious, that the G has two more seats.

However, the Z is MUCH lighter... 2-300lbs or so. Tends to make it a bit quicker and nimble.

Yeah, the Z seems a bit more agile... maybe that's just an illusion.

I told my friend that if he wants a Roaster, it's an easy decidion as the G35 doesn't have a ragtop.

We are going to test drive Sunday.... I hope that I don't like the Z too much !

I got my order down for a '05 G35C 6mt, of course they aren't out yet, but I should be driving one in a couple of months....can't wait to get rid of my Cl-s

The main problem I basically hear from owners are the brakes, the brembos are sweet but they are performance brakes and having to replace them ~10k miles isn't unusual....the '05's will not have the brembo's but they will have larger brakes than the non brembo options pre 05

Go to freshalloy.com, it cost to post there, but you can find some useful info on the G and the 350 and browse around for free.

Where are you getting this from?

The only issues with the Brembos is that they tend to moan and groan (squeak) due to their performance characteristics. They do NOT wear prematurely. People are getting over 30,000 and some are close to 40,000 out of the stock pads with no warping of the rotors including tracking the car! No one really knows why Infiniti abandoned the Brembos, but the thought is due to cost. The Brembo setup on the G is one of the best stock setups that comes from the factory. Not one mechanical issue with this setup.

On the other hand, the non-brembo pads wear out very quickly. Hence why Infiniti extended free pad replacement for 3years/36,000 miles. I am not sure if they made changes to eliminate this issue for '05. This is well documented on all the freshalloy/g35driver sites…

I’d be interested to see where you’ve found these issues with Brembos. I’d be willing to bet you’re really reading about non-brembo setups.

Thanks for the input guys.

We are going Sunday to look at cars, he's also looking at the 350Z, possibly a Roadster. The only thing about the Z I cautioned him on was the service, since he'll have to go to a Nissan dealership vice Infinity.

Personally, I like the Z better, especially if it's a convertable

This is one post but over the last month I have seen a few post, post from brembo owners. There are 5 or 6 guys on this one post that agree that the Brembo pads wear easily, the last response has 23k miles with no problems though.........kinda reminds of Acura's Transmissions, some have the problem and some don't. With it costing $500 to replace all 4 corners, Ill skip on the Brembos, though they are sweet looking.

Brembos will always wear quickly...that's why they stop so well. Had them on my Supra Turbo with Brembo rotors...only got me 10K miles...but they stopped like mad.

Exactly, I would love to be able to do a 60-0 stop in 107ft, but I'll settle for 115-120 range and save me a lot of money.

Granted SCRIB hasn't had to change his yet, but I don't know if I would want to take my chances...........actually I take that back, I wish they did have them and if mine went in 10k miles, I would just put regular brake pads on.

Pads are cheap... Even the OEM Brembo pads cost $50 per axle.

Chewing through OEM Brembo pads in 10-15K miles is NOT widespread. There will be issues here and there, but this is not a widespread problem of any grand concern.

Now... If the rotors were crapping out, different story. But they're not.

BTW...

Go and see how long it takes you to change a set of pads on a Brembo G. I experimented one day just to see how long it would take me to get the pads out... Took me 72 seconds once the wheel was off. A 5-year old could change these things. No bolts... Nothing to torque. Unreal how simple the system is.
