Accord Transmission Slipping.. need advice
Our 2000 Honda Accord LX is having problems with the transmission slipping (automatic). I thought the fluid was low, so I got it changed and seemed fixed after 2 wks. It started to slip again by pressing on the gas and the engine would rev higher and the transmission would not kick in. Do I need to replace the entire tranny or repair it? Whats your advice and how much should I be expecting to pay? thank you!!

Is it a V-6?? Are you an original owner? Bring it to the Honda dealer and have them replace it. I had the trans in my accord replaced for free after some bitching.

i'm not sure if the LX's came in v6, but if you have a v6 LX the transmission should be covered up until 100,000 miles. Get 'em to fix that shit.

Changing the fluid on a trans that is already slipping makes it worse. It changes the viscosity of the transmission fluid and the clutch packs slip easier causing rapid wear. The metal in the dirty fluid actually helps in that situation.
Best thing to do is leave it alone until you can get the transmission fixed.
It's a day late and a dollar short I know, but this might help anyone else reading the thread.
You need a new transmission man. Go see if honda will replace it! it's their crappy design that put you in the situation your in now....

My 99 Accord's AT crapped out back in 01. with the last line of Siggy's post. There's a reasonable chance that Honda will replace it gratis.

My cousin had a '97 EX V6 coupe and the transmission was slipping a lot. She brought it to the dealer and they replaced it for free even though she was over 100K miles. What do you have to lose?? Just bring it in and see what they say.

Honestly, I thought auto companies were beyond tranny problems until I started seeing the whole cl / accord/ odyssey/ etc. tranny problem unravel.

My tranny did the same thing, my 3.0cl was at 171k miles though and i think it was still the first transmission so it was time for it to go, but my car with a good tranny isnt worth more than $2500 so im still figuring out what im gonna do with it since i cant fix it

Thats what I was thinking when I saw his response. When I started having this problem, I ran a search on the Net. There were several reason why a trans would slip and I took it step by step. From reading the items below, I felt the problem was low fluid level and that is why i had it serviced and flushed out which has helped and now it only slips when it gets too hot.
External controls need adjustment
External controls need replacement
Electrical components need adjustment or replacement
In an automatic transmission, the transmission computer may need replacement
Low fluid level or insufficient fluid pressure
The clutch needs adjustment or replacement
Internal parts may be worn or damaged which may require a major repair
