AC Help- 99 Jeep Cherokee

So I have tried searching jeep forums but no one seems to have a resolution.

I figured I would ask the experts here.

The AC works but it is not really cold. It does not need to be charged. It never cools down the car enough for me to turn the blower down.

Where should I start or just take it to the dealer?

That sort of problem is usually a bad pressure switch. It should be screwed into the accumulator. It has a electrical connector.

Could it also be a bad compressor?

also check out the cabin filter and the condensor area, they could be plugged up with crap.

A real jeep guy would turn it into a air compressor

If the pressure switch is not working right the compressor will never turn on or off fully so that could lead to the belief the compressor is a fault. You need to hook up gauges to the high & low side to test this. You also need the test procedure & the settings from a service manual.
I've gotten very good with AC from fixing my Explorers. 99% of the problems & solutions are the same on any AC system.

Does your Jeep have the dual climate control? I know a ton of Grands have problems steming from it.

With out looking at it all we are doing is guessing, so far a lot of good guesses have been made but no guarantees that it is anything that has been suggested. In addition to what has been recommended check for vacuum leak, some AC controls need vacuum to operate and if there is no vacuum they don't work right.

Yep. I fixed the blower motor from melting away, taken it in several times for blend door, etc.

You guys gave me some good things to google on the jeep forums

I have had everything from death wobble to repeated ac problems. Might just trade it in for like an 02 MDX or something.

Good idea... I also have a Grand Cherokee and experienced the same problems. I have a love it / hate it relationship with my Jeep.
