Today I got my 180SX VLSD (viscous limited-slip differential). I've read up on these and they seem to wear out under severe abuse, so now I'm questioning my decision. Regardless, it's better than the stock open-diff. The guy who I bought this 240 from has been running the same differential on his 400whp 240 for over a year and hasn't had any problems. If you're not a hard core auto-xer or drifter, the 180SX rear-ed should be adequate for street use. Besides, what's a broke college student to do?
Here's a shot of the drilled/slotted rotors, nothing special.
Old, open differential being removed...
JDM 180SX VLSD awaiting install.

No updates as of this past week. I have been enjoying the benefits of an LSD though. It's rained here the last five days and I've enjoyed some smooth sideways action.

YEah! Love the tail kicking out. Makes me miss mine. So what did you run? Was it an 1/8th mile track?

PISS POOR reaction time.
The 240's fun as it is, but it is definitely lacking in the power department right now. Work's been a little slow lately, so parts are on hold. Good news is that I've saved up over half of what it will cost me to purchase an RB25.

Nice run.....
What parts are you looking for? I could poke around and see if there is something that is tough to get for you but easy for me. Just no heads or blocks please. No guarantee, but if I price something I can probably get it. PM me.

^ Thanks! If you have spare time or happen to see a set... Kouki tail lights are expensive as heck here in the states. I was wondering how much they were back in JDM land.

Nice, I really like the 180SX tails. I was planning to get an S13 a while back and that was one of the first things I would have done to it.

Thanks for the heads up phee. I'll let you know if there is anything on that list that I need.
mrmako: Thanks for searching for me. I thought the 180sx tails would still be tough to locate even in Japan. I would really like a set but can't make myself pay close to $500 just for some lights.
As for now, I just installed a set of Autometer gauges.

The proverbial sock in the pants...
costco: I'll be switching to a top mount T3/T4 turbo when I purchase a blacktop SR20DET. I was initially going to go with an RB25, but I've never attempted an engine transplant before, so to make matters easier, I'm going to go the SR route. I know, everyone's doing the SR swap, but it seems to be more straight forward and budget friendly, which seems the more logical choice with my circumstances.

Sooooooooo... I'm back and I have a little surprise!
What can it be?
Brand new factory parts...
KOUKI!
I can't believe I went through and bought these bad boys. I was looking at Kouki taillights on the 180SX Sunday night and couldn't control myself. So today the friendly Fed-Ex man brings me a set!

That looks great. i looked some more but they are over $600 here, IF you can find them. You can tell your friends that a guy in Japan told you it's difficult for him to get those tails. Just don't tell anyone that will rip yours off.
And the flat black is pretty good too.
