I just got back from dropping the car off at the body shop. As soon as I gave them the keys, they pulled the car into a work bay and started sanding and prepping. I'm hoping that it is done in about a week.

^ They should have the hood and front fenders to me by Tuesday. The whole car, I'm hoping, is done this week. I'm excited to say the least.

Went to the shop today...

There was a clean Evo VIII sitting out front.

My car is being pushed into the paint booth this afternoon!

What color did you decide on? Is going to match the engine bay or contrast it?

That's the color that the body will have, the engine bay will remain the same blue. The roof will be a jet black.

Man....that's going to look awesome.

You kept your wheels on as opposed to using the crap ones? I'm surprised. I would be worried about over spray getting on them.

I here ya... I told the shop manager to put a jack under my car and take the wheels off when they started to spray. I got there yesterday and he said that they couldn't fit their jack under the car because it was too low. I check it out and they did an excellent job of covering everything up, so hopefully everything comes out without any over-spray.

BTW, the suspense is killing me.

I don't really understand why you decided to keep your engine bay blue.

^ On any other car I'd say no, but this is a modified 240SX. I just looks right. I think it's going to be very nice when it's done.

Im not sure what the blue is going to look like when its done, so Im just going to wait until then. My mind is saying it will actually be a nice contrast, as long as its kept clean.

I don't understand why he's leaving his engine bay blue either. After all, it only takes 5, maybe 10 minutes max altogether to drop the engine, disconnect the exhaust piping to clear enough space, uninstall stuff like the master cylinders, vacuum lines, disconnect mounts for etc. etc. etc. then sand down/prep everything (another 5 minutes tops)

So yeah, why in the HELL would you leave that engine bay blue? What's wrong with you, kneedragger?

SOME people... sheesh

I think the engine bay would look better painted, but it would be alot more work for something you'd really hardly ever see.

It might make a difference when it comes time to sell the car though...

I can't comment on the engine bay being left blue, as it's the OP's choice to do so. I'm sure it will look good regardless.

Preparing an engine bay for painting, however, is a long and tedious process. The correct way is to remove the engine, but even if it can be left inside the car, all other components need to be removed. Exhaust, fuel lines, accelerator linkage, electrical, radiator, battery, washer bottle, wiper motor, etc., etc.. Then the entire bay needs to be prepped as well. Very time consuming and expensive if someone is doing it for you.
