Nothing wrong with Pentax, they make some cool stuff. My old neighbor was a professional photog and made his living shooting with Pentax gear. I love the pancake lenses in their lineup and that unique 10-17mm fisheye.

Picked up an Induro AB2 because it was dirt cheap at Macworld a couple of weeks ago. $129 and it's very sturdy and made of aluminum/magnesium. I've got no experience with higher end tripods, but this one it much better than the cheap Walmart one I got when I was in Maui. What's the general consensus on Induro gear?

I learned on Pentax and will inherit my old mans '69 Spotmatic, which is a very cool all manual camera that was the shiznit in the '60's. Pentax also made a great 50mm lens that was sharp as a tack and considered one of the best.

Pentax is a venerable company in the world of photography. No shame at all shooting with them.

I was just shooting with my friends d60 and I have to ask does the whole nikon line run on essentially the same software? I found it difficult to make adjustments to things like ISO etc compared to my xti. Or is it possible to assign functions to the direction d pad style buttons? It felt overly complicated to use for me, but I figure it's possible I could be missing something because I haven't had the opportunity to page through the manual. Heck I couldn't even get it to shoot in burst mode, I must be missing something.

I have one of those 50mm's :-). Its in the pic, a super takumar 50mm f1.4 m42 screw mount. I still use it once it a while when I feel like doing the full manual thing on a digital body. I find the 31mm f1.8 a more appropriate focal length for my use on aps-c though.

I have a monopod from Induro with a Manfrotto head on it, although I am of no use as I have not really used it to be able to say anything about it's quality...

I just picked up a steal of a deal at the local Henry's. I got a Canon EOS digital accessory kit for $149.99

It includes a Battery Grip (BG-E2N)
A spare battery (BP-511A)
And a Tamrack-Canon Gadget bag.

I got the last one.

The retail on it is $329.99... The battery grip alone is over $200.

Yup. BG-E2N

The thing makes the camera a beast. I think I might need to get a hand strap. It also pushes the number of shots out of a full charge to something ridiculous - over 1000 even using the built in flash with 2 batteries. It also includes a AA adapter so you can load the camera up with 6AA batteries in an emergency.

^^ Wow, that is a great deal and it says in stock online. They even ship to the US and shipping is only $13. I already have a BG-E2 and 4 batteries, but this is tempting.

Contemplating between finally getting a decent tripod or the 10-22. Thoughts?

Do you have a tripod now and are just looking to upgrade? I can say I've been very happy with the Gitzo/RRS combo I bought recently, but it was an upgrade. The WA lens is nice too, if you think you'll use it. A good pod(AND a good ballhead), though, is an essential tool, IMO.

The differ between bodies. My D3 is quick and simple and the layout is possible because of the body size.

My D100 is easy but differs from the D3..

I can only imagine the D60 is a pain because its such a small body with everything crammed into it. Havent used one.

My current tripod is a crappy aluminum freebee video tripod that came with a video camera several years ago. So, basically it is a new addition to the kit.

I would use the WA, but it won't be as useful without a good tripod

I have to decide if I want to keep the Manfrotto 488RC2 or sell it and get something better. I haven't even used it, since it won't connect to the crappy tripod.

I say go for the best tripod/ballhead combo you can afford. It's a good investment in your photography. They ain't cheap, but it will last you for years.

Moe, just get a set of legs for the 488RC2...

I have the 488RC4, and works just fine.

I might start off getting just the Feisol 3342 to use with the 488.

Quick question about the RRS stuff. Are the L plates camera model specific, or would it be the same one for a 30D and 50D?

Plates are specific, but that's because Canon had moved or change the input areas. The bracket for the 20D, 30D, 40D and 50D should fit each one, but you wouldn't be able to use an input depending on which model bracket you used.

I read that on FM or POTN.
