+1 you could get great shots out of a 40D with better glass. the kit lens is just a beginner lens, and obviously buying a 15-77 EF-S which is worth more than your entire KIT will make a huge difference. canon wouldnt price this item higher than some of the L lenses if it didnt deliver. i got this because many enthusiasts claim this lens to be the ONLY true upgrade to the 18-55. obviously if you want more reach then an L lens would do you right

OK so I did some researching and stuck between choosing these two:

EF 24-105 f/4L IS USM
EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM

I can get either of these two at the same price on craigslist so price isn't a factor here. Which one do you guys suggest?

I like the 24-105 because it has more reach. IMO better for a walk around lens, used it when I had a 40D.

Do yourself a favor and rent each one for a week. That way you are deciding based on YOUR evaluation and thus can form your own criteria. Everyone has their own criteria, but if they are different from yours, your ultimate decision will be flawed.

Zeiss announced 9/1 a new 35mm 1.4 that may be worth drooling over:

It's a lot heavier than the 2/35, but I'm sure there are people who'd appreciate the extra stop. I think it's likely going to have less vignetting too because everything seems oversized about it. The small size and discrete appearance is one of the things like most about my 2/35. However, if I started with the 1.4/35, I probably would have been fine with it too.

That isn't exclusive to Nikon, Canon's latest releases cost more than Nikon's counterpart.

OK, time for me to stop planning and start doing...

I am going to buy the Canon 17-55 from B+H.

I am freaking sick and tired of waiting for some kind of temporary or seasonal price drop.

Anyone know if B+H will help out of the product drops in price within 30 days of purchase?

Has to be B+H as I have a gift card.

The Sub $1K drops don't seem to be happening any more on the black line (median price)...

Theyre supposed to help you if the price drops.

But they are assholes and never credited me back.

So I'm taking my business elsewhere.

ok all... need some opinions...

Tamron 10-24
Sigma 10-20
Tokina 12-24

can't afford the Canon 10-22 and leaning towards the Tamron, but the Tokina was the same price...

I would add Tokina 11-16 to that thought and get it. Constant 2.8 lens. But it's $150 higher than them.

Looking at amazon.com all have goods reviews, I would look at them for better advise than here. I don't think a lot here own any of them.

I have 11-16 for Nikon, like it a lot. So I would tend to lean towards the 12-24.

All of them are "digital" lenses. So I would say that wouldn't be idea for a FF body.

The EF-S lenses are designed not to let you attached them to a EF body, but the Tokina and others I don't think are. So you could, but not sure what you'd get.

I know people that have used the Tokina 11-16 on a FF Nikon body, of course you get major vignetting at lower focal lengths. Not sure if you could attach it to a FF Canon, I'd say you could dig a little or ask that question at http://photography-on-the.net/forum/index.php and find out.
