Not much else they do with that sensor other than add movies really.

The only thing that will make it a "wow" factor is if it does 1080/24.

IF it does that...and pending performance tests, etc...I might consider selling my D3 and upgrading. Assuming I could enough for the body to justify the sale.

But I highly doubt it.

UPDATE: the Nikon D3s may have a new 1.3x crop mode.

I don’t know about this rumor (anonymous email), but here it is – the Nikon D3s looks much better already (if those are true of course):

Nikon D3s with ISO 200-12800 (D3 was with ISO 200-6400).
New ISO range HI-3 at 102,400 ISO.
12.1 mp FX sensor (same as the D3, but tweaked).
D-movie with 24 fps.
good call

The D3S now has a dedicated Live View button on the back of the camera.

Once in Live View mode a press of the Pv button next to the lens mount will start or stop video recording.

The speaker is located behind the small door that covers the opening-button for the CF-card compartment.

720p/24 video....BOOOOOOOOOOOOO Nikon!!!

You've basically just stated you are rolling over and not even going to try and compete with Canon in this realm.

I'll stick with my D3.

I was hoping they would come up with a camera that would compete with the 7D , since I would be getting it solely for shooting video. I really hate the controls on Canon.

Canon's 7D was to match the D300, there's a D300s on the market.

Yea but being a film guy, I want full manual control of the exposure. Plus the 7D can do 60 frames.

D800 rumors:

Rumor: Nikon D800 instead of D700s/x
By [NR] admin | October 21, 2009
PhotographyBay received a tip that Nikon will not be updating the D700, but instead will release acompletelynew model – Nikon D800 with the following specs:

Video mode 1080p video recording (full HD)
High resolution 24.5 MP
High frame rate: 7 fps without battery grip (similar to D300s)
51-area Nikon Multi-CAM 3500FX (same technology as D3X)
Expected to be released before the end of the year
At that point I do not have any reliable info on that rumor. All sources point that D700 will not be updated anytime soon. Maybe this really means a new D800 that could coexists with the D700.

You could get the best camera in the world, but unless you actually go out and use it you may as well just use your iPhone camera.

The iphone is the number one camera phone on flickr and second for all around cameras posted there, IIRC behind the Canon XT.

Nikon D3s samples: ISO 100-102,400

http://www.ellisvener.com/data/web/N...les/index.html

In the linked gallery you will find full resolution 1000x1000 pixel crops shot at the D3s Big Apple Circus event on October 20, 2009 at all full stop ISO settings from 100 to 102,400. The final image is an uncropped view.

Exposure and processing information is included but the basics are that the camera was set for lossless 14 Bit NEF mode and High ISO noise reduction was set to "Low".

The files were looked at in Nikon ViewNX and then sent to Photoshop for cropping, captioning, conversion to the sRGB color space and saved as level 12 (i.e. minimal) compression.

No sharpening in the NEF processing or in post processing. Active D-lighting was turned off in hte camera and D-Lighting was turned off in Nikon ViewNX. Beyond what is described above no other processing was done. The HTML Web gallery was created in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.5

Feel free to share the link or post it in your blogs.

Maybe it's just me, but I wish there would be more 'rumors'....and eventual solid plans for more lenses.

It seems like they've been putting out a ridiculous amount of bodies relative to lenses lately. It's a little

They have actually put out a few more lenses than bodies last year. 2010 is when a few of the "I want" lenses will come out. I read a lot of whining on other forums about Nikon needing to do this and that. IMO it's the old Canon people crying for primes, I have not once missed a prime lens since leaving Canon. Their zooms are so much better than Canon's, I don't miss the primes. I would like to get a 24mm though.

I'm hoping for a new body soon, since a d700 is my next pick but the d3s would sum things up nicely if had the extra 3k on top of a new body.

Although i'd like to try shoot some video.

Aside from the extra stop....I'd probably still go 14-24 if I had the money and didnt already have a 24.
