2. It produces the best video in low light that I’ve ever seen - at 1080p. A top commercial film editor who who regularly edits RED camera footage - and has seen the raw footage from the 5D MKII - says the 5D MKII is “far superior to the RED camera” in terms of low light performance…

What a meaningless statement. Most editors are VERY camera clueless.
Like low light is superior to the red camera....OK....

Can the 5d shoot at 4k...no

Can the 5d shoot 24fps...or anwhere from 1fps to 96fps....no

can the 5d adjust its shutter angle....no

That just cracks the crust items the 5d cant do...because its not designed to be a pro video camera.

But, hey whoopee that it delivers amazing low light performance at 1080/30 that is very good news for home video.

I realize the 24fps is a huge thing - but isn't it possible to convert the 30 to 24?

possible, yes. Does it look the same, no. Though there aren't many people who can even notice the difference.

There are so many other "issues" I'm not even starting to mention when trying to compare this thing to a full blown pro camera. Its stupid to even try.

Like I said this is great news for home movie shooters.

I understand how you in particular, would be speaking out loudly against this cam. And, I would probably be doing the same if I was you.

I'd rather have Nikon and Canon use this tech in standalone video only cameras instead of trying to cram it into DSLR's. I'd love to have in a HVX sized video camera.

Won't most people use the LCD to frame the video, thus killing the battery life on the camera?

My link in post 202, the guy said the battery life wasn't a problem. They only had one with they doing the 72 hour test.

I read an unconfirmed rumour that Nikon got a tip on the 5D2's video and rushed video into the D90, wanting to be "first". It would explain it's very limited nature, for sure. I mean, for a consumer camera like that, how many people who have any of the D40-D80 models do you think have ever used MF on their cams? I know I never did. So it would make little sense to have MF video on them.

^ looks like they even planned for the frequent recharges. I am going to assume these pros would frame using the viewfinder, rather than the LCD, but I think most people moving to this camera for it's video will not be as advanced of a user, and will probably frame with the LCD as the primary source.

you cant frame using the viewfinder because you are in live view mode.

OK, even more reason that the battery will drain fast during video.

Well this should say "two days". Not sure if the 5DmkII is what I want. There might be another FF body out there to look at.

dpreview sample gallery.

http://www.dpreview.com/gallery/canoneos5dmkii_preview/

they have a example at iso3200 in low light.
Canon EOS 5D Mark II Beta Preview Gallery (33 of 40), 154 mm, ISO 3200, 1/50 sec, F4.5, +0.3 EV, EF 70-200 mm F4L, Standard NR

they also have some iso1600-25600 samples, but it seems those have a fair amount of light. (its the last 5 images)

That's a completely apples/oranges comparison. A) The RED is a tool intended for professional sets where you're going have professional lighting to compliment it. B) The video formats are completely different.

I can see you wanting a D3 over the 5D2.. but not a D700. Forgetting about video (I would not dare use that in an argument for the 5D2, at least with you guys), the 5D2 is better, from what I've seen. Add lower-cost lenses to the mix and I really don't see why you'd want a D700. /thinking out loud

ps. I thought you were a Canon guy.

Canon has really got me thinking with what they did/didn't do with the MkII, to keep the same AF that has been used for four years (it's the one from the 20D), because of their Marketing Dept. It could at least have the 50D's. So it really has me thinking about which system/Company is really thinking.

Not forgetting about the video, could have done w/o it, hoping for a newer AF, not even thinking about them matching what Nikon did with their D3/D700/D300.
