well that's dumb. I would think that on a video forum, they would have a little more knowledge of that. I tried explaining it to someone in a 5D2 thread on one of the other boards I'm on... thought you might get a kick out of some of his posts... I tried to explain it the best I could, it's still rather new to me so I could have made some inaccurate statements.. I used your soap example lol.. but I don't think I got through to him. ![Frown](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)

Don't you think the future only leads to technologies being combined into multi-purpose devices anyway? I mean, we have phones with cameras, mobile browsers, video, MP3 capability.... The wave of the future is to have the least of amount of portable items that are able to be used in the most versatile ways. So in that sense, I think Canon is smart. Eventually, you'll have everything all-in-one, and most people will wonder how they ever got along with one technology, and not the convenience of the other, in the same device.

I had to cheat on AZine and view that other forum to understand this more...
I feel dirty, but I think I see the difference, esp, with the soap opera reference..

I'm guessing these will work with the 5D2... and we'll see other companies following suit.

Pretec Releases 64GB and 100GB CF Card - Highest Capacity in the World
Pretec to Exhibit at Photokina 2008, Sept. 23-28, 2008 at Leaf booth (West Hall 4.2, B009) and CFA (Hall 5.1, G-019)
Photokina 2008
COLOGNE, Germany & TAIPEI, Taiwan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Pretec, creator of the highest capacity and fastest CompactFlash card in the world, will demonstrate even higher capacities including a 64GB CF card, in the Leaf booth (West Hall 4.2, B009) and CFA (Hall 5.1, G-019) at Photokina 2008.
Pretec today releases 64GB and 100GB, 233X CF cards with access speed of up to 35MB/s, overtaking the Pretec 48GB CF card, the previous world’s record holder; and super high speed 333X 32GB and 50GB CF cards capable of running up to 50 MB per second of Read/Write speed, the highest speed CF card in the world.
Pretec CF 233X and 333X CF cards use metal housing and ruggedized construction to provide extensive ruggedness. Pretec 64GB CF cards can be configured or reused to make a 256GB SATA, the highest capacity 2.5” SSD, by using Pretec Q-SATA, a patent-pending technology of flexible, scalable and modular SATA/PATA design based on up to 4 CF cards.
Pretec CF cards will be demonstrated together with high performance digital cameras from Leaf, a business unit of Eastman Kodak. Their new Leaf AFi-II system delivers the fastest shooting speeds of any camera in its class. These speeds are enabled by advanced communication and CF technologies and Leaf Capture software. “We are pleased to have chosen Pretec as our exclusive storage partner at Photokina 2008 and to witness the excitement as Pretec breaks the CF card speed and capacity world records,” said Seth Greenberg, Leaf Marketing Director.
Pretec 233X 64GB and 333X 32GB CF cards with suggested retail price of $399 and $630 are slated to start delivery by Photokina 2008.

Big Block go VROOOM!
Don't forget that the benefits of das ubercard are dampened by the 4 GB file size limit of FAT32. That's not a concern though unless you want to shoot clips that are more than 12-14 minutes long.

thought 4GB was the max on the 5D2's video file size, anyway.. maybe that's why? or are there other cards that allow for more? I may have known at some point and forgotten..

Actually, there's a good chance the 4GB limit could be resolved by the time the camera hits production. When you run over the file size limit on Canon's AVCHD camcorders, you can just do a binary concatenate of the adjacent files to merge them back to a single clip. The same goes for Sony and Panasonic AVCHD cams if I'm not mistaken. I don't know the gory details of video file formats but if this can be done with AVC encoded files then I don't know why it couldn't be done with h.264 encoded files like the 5DmII.

Personally, I'm still trying to understand why one even needs a multi-kilobuck mattebox setup instead of regular screw-in filters and lens hoods.
