The matteboxes are for the usual lens flares and other add on aks we normally use...a tiny little lens hood doesnt cut it.

The Canon EOS 5D Mark II is on track for release to retailers by the end of November 2008 in the U.S., says Chuck Westfall, Technical Advisor at Canon USA. Extra batteries and other accessories for the 21.03 million image pixel digital SLR, including Battery Grip BG-E6, Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E4/E4A, Battery Pack LP-E6 and EG-series focusing screens, are expected to ship from Canon USA to stores at about the same time as the camera emerges.

Has anyone heard what the new battery and grip will retail for? I'm assuming it will be pretty expensive with the new monitoring abilities built into the battery, but I haven't seen any official figures.

As much as I love my Sterlingtek batteries, I don't know if I would cheap out on one that has monitoring abilities. ![2 Cents](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/2cents.gif)
That being said, I hope it's not $200 for a battery, because that would be a cool grand to replace the ones I have now..

Not sure how similar this battery is to the one in my FS100 which also monitors battery life to the minute. But Sterlingtek told me they have no plans to make batteries for Canon's new camcorders.

This is the site that lists the battery over $210 CDN, http://www.vistek.ca/store/Batteries...d-mark-ii.aspx it also list Canon 5D at $2600 CDN, not the mark II.

From Canon Canada's press release.
As we know, retailers sell at or below MSRP so yes, you probably can get it for 2,400 if that's what it works out to.
US pricing is $2,699 if I remember correctly. so it makes sense that Canon Canada only charge $100 more considering our dollar was about equal when the 5D II was announced. The 50D is only $50 more up here.
The Canon EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR camera is compatible with Canon EF lenses and is scheduled for delivery by the end of November. The EOS 5D Mark II will be sold in a body-only configuration at an estimated retail price of $2,799.99. It will additionally be offered in a kit version with Canon’s EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM zoom lens at an estimated retail price of $3,649.99iv. The accompanying Battery Grip BG-E6 and Wireless Transmitter WFT-E4A, will both be available by the end of November. The estimated retail price of the BG-E6 is $350.00, while the estimated retail price of the WFT-E4A is $1420.00.

Even Henry's who aren't known for their competitive pricing have it at $2,799.

Vistek ramped their prices up yesterday, it was $2799 since the announcement. It's a shame they're gouging like that because I normally prefer to deal with them rather than Henry's. Stealing an extra $300 isn't going to make any friends.

A price increase before they even put it on the market? Talk about a shell game?

The D700 is $3,299 up here so I guess the price is still fair.

question for Sarlacc.. why do soaps shoot at 30fps rather than 24? why wouldn't they want that film look. I mean, surely they must intend to shoot that way?

Soaps are stuck in the past.
When I had the displeasure of doing SFX for GH, the fx company forced them to shoot HD...and then forced the actual show to go HD for that portion. I stopped by set. Its all old men running things who fear change.

Geez. That is so disappointing. I would think that the entertainment industry is as forward-thinking as possible, I mean, why not? Why wouldn't they want the "best" product possible. I think soaps would look so much better at 24. Do any of em do it at 24?

I always wondered other countries shoot with weird camera speeds or something to make their film look the way it does but someone explained it to me one day and I now forget why, oh well LOL

Soap Operas still shoot on 20-30 year old cameras...Maybe not THAT old, but not too far off.

Apparently Vistek has been telling customers who bought at the earlier price that the price is no longer and they have to charge them more...

http://stoppriceincrease.blogspot.com/
"Dear Valued Vistek Customer,
XXXX Ltd. has received official notification from Canon Canada that the pricing on the
5D MkII will be increasing prior to any cameras being shipped in Canada due to the increase
in the Canadian exchange rate. This is unfortunate and something that Canon couldn’t have predicted.
The new prices are:
Canon EOS 5D Mark II body only Was $2799. It has been increased to $3099.
Canon EOS 5D Mark II kit (with EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens) Was $3649. Now $3949.
As your imaging supplier, we have the unfortunate task of notifying you that the Canon prices
on your XXXX sales order dated prior to Nov. 5, 2008 are no longer valid.
We very sincerely apologise for this increase. It is driven by the economy and in response to
our supplier’s increase.
Please contact me if you have any questions. Your revised sales order is attached.
Best regards, ...."
My reply
"That is very unfortunate for Canon, but not for me, as far as I can tell legally, the prices on my deposited order are still valid. If they could not have predicted it, then they shouldn’t have predicted it - but they did, and they agreed to allow authorized resellers to take deposits.
I wish to still buy my 5D mk II with 24-105 L series lens for the agreed upon price that Canon authorized it’s own authorized dealers to advertise. This order is already deposited, and thus an agreement has begun.
I refuse Canon’s request to opt out of this contract (supplying the authorized retailer with product at the advertised price) at this time: the contractual obligation and steps to terminating a contract are well explained on the Consumer and Corporate Affairs website for Canada – so even American driven price increases could have received their due diligence prior to commencing.
I will contact Canon tomorrow, and depending on their response, I will file complaints with 3 agencies and hand the summary to a few legal teams to evaluate the potential claim. I would like to also fund the publication of a website outlining this event and Canon’s position.
It would appear that if 500 bodies sold in Canada for $300 more, that would only be $150,000.00…and while to many that much money is not a lot, the principle that as consumers we should not accept profit as an excuse to break laws."
