A new product called HDR expose got released today:
http://www.unifiedcolor.com/
I quote:
Like HDR Photostudio, in designing HDR Expose, our primary goal was to "Keep it Real" and deliver results that closely match how people view actual HDR scenes with their own eyes, without halos or artificial color shifts. HDR Expose takes this one step further, by providing additional feedback tools to assist photographers in the editing process. HDR Expose allows photographers to edit their HDR images in full 32-bit mode while seeing on an interactive histogram, how their changes will be rendered when they convert the final processed image.
I'll be downloading the demo tonight and giving it a spin.
I didn't have much luck with the tools I posted before - they weren't consistent enough.

Yeap it's all about the 32bit,
That program is a sloooow download.

I used HDR Expose for about four images that I recently did with Photomatix, it had a hard time with the bright light from the outside windows. Photomatix handle is much better.
HDR Expose crashed twice and I have a pretty hefty system. You can save the 32 bit TIFF image ( you can also save as HDR and a few others as 32 bit) and open it in Photoshop, it will open it up the HDR controls in Photoshop. With CS4 not much can be done with the image, with CS5 more control.
For the time being, I'll stick with Photomatix, it's paid for and HDR Expose is $99.

This is an image, the only image that I liked processing with HDR Expose. I then used Photoshop and Nik Software for final image.

Hmm.
I had two really wonderful results with HDR Expose, but I can't seem to recreate them.
The GUI leaves a LOT to be desired, imho, and It seems to be temperamental.
For example, I could swear that it makes a difference how/what order you load in the pictures, which makes no sense at all. I need to tinker with it some more.
It's definitely different from other software - it doesn't even HAVE that 'tone mapping' dialog box that every other software forces you to pick from. It basically assumes 'realistic' and lets you go from there.

Yeah, the GUI is very temperamental, that's where I locked up twice. And it's very fixated on mid point. Also I haven't found a way to step back. Ctrl-Z is a no go with this program.

Nice,
I did my first "people" pano in the sunflower field. I got the same guy in the image twice.

haven't done multiple exposure HDR in a while, decided to do some tonight - more noise than I'd like but overall I am ok with it -

I wish I hadn't cut the front end so close, but someone was standing there and just wouldn't move. I got tired of waiting.
