played with a SD780 - its pretty nice - nice quality pics, doesnt have that overblown look of nightclub shots with a P&S. also very small, and it has 720p too. I heard its going for a around $200-220 or so, not bad at all.

Yup - extended version.

I shot nearly 20GB at the wedding yesterday. These 7D files are Huge-mongous. 1/2 of them were with the 40D though...nearly 1000pics. I'll be culling a lot alotalot, though.

Why? Why do you shoot RAW +jpeg? I mean, I realize that if it's offered, there must be a reason why people want it, but unless you're direct printing & then fully processing later (which I also don't get) I don't understand the need for both file types. I'm not knocking it, I've just never known anyone to use that, so I'm wondering what your reason is?

Glad to hear you've been out shooting.

Yeah, it was annoying, but really easy to re-customize.

time to stock up on some TB drives! what's your long-term plan to handle the added space and backup requirements?

I've got 2 750GB externals for backup now - each of which has 500GB+ remaining, so I'm ok for now. I'll have to move files off the laptop more frequently, but that's a good thing. I want to add memory to my laptop, just for smoother file handling. I just plan to buy more externals as needed. Thankfully, memory is getting cheaper all the time.

What your files sizes like with the 5D? You shoot more than anyone I know...what's your HD space like?

cool. not too crazy for me, since most of what Ive shot has been JPG (3-5MB). So I have a TB drive at work where I keep my whole library (and sync it once a while by bringing it home to copy stuff over), and I have a couple of TB drives at home with more redundant storage. I do the same I buy more when I need it. But now I'm doing more RAW guess I'll be buying more drives - so amazing to have such cheap drives nowdays.

5D RAW files are between 10-13MB. I'm guessing its because of the 14-bits that yours are considerably higher than 18MB?
