I ended going with the 4TB wireless/cloud model, the price dropped to $199, besides, the regular 4TB model is online only, I kinda wanted something today

If it had just been me setting it up, I would have either returned and gotten the regular one OR just use it via USB... But luckily my wife is kind of a geek and got it working, and even for her, she was getting frustrated.

Anyways, it's actually pretty cool... You can get the free app and have access from you phone anywhere. I guess, yeah... it's the whole "cloud" thing... but 4Tb of it! The only downside is, it's not a seamless connection... when I open up my Lightroom, I have to wait a few seconds before they connect.

I'm just curious though... if suppose, I'm doing some post processing at a remote location (Starbucks etc etc...), I'm wondering if there's a way for me to save the photos to it from there. That would be waaaaaay cool if I can

I don't see why not, how would you connect to it when you're away from home? Is it by an app or does it show up as a drive?

the new iMac Retina 5K display is 5210 x 2880..... would be cool for photo editing... .

iMac With Retina 5K Display: My God, It's Full of Pixels

a full-resolution 7D photo will fit on this screen! (5184 × 3456) - you'll have to do some scrolling up/down though.

I highly recommend this $89 deal... at least $2000 worth of workshops (including over 70+ hours of video)... it's for charity and IMO the Zack Arias OneLight 2.0 alone is worth the $89!

only about 13 hours left

I think it's fine if you're doing "slow exposure" not necessarily "long exposure"... maybe up to 2 seconds (give or take) with a big dSLR

Thanks! I wasn't thinking about long exposures...now I am though.
For $90 I'm not sure i want to chance it.

Thanks Jeff. That first one looks like it might not handle the weight well enough. The second might do.

just curious... what occasion would you be using a lighter tripod for? Hiking? traveling? And what's your budget?

I'm asking because a friend of mine that travels a lot and bought a Manfrotto "BeFree"... still cost around $200, but it's quite compact and despite having legs with 4 sections, it's pretty good in terms of stability... (maybe just don't use the last section). Just thought I throw that in there... if I ever take that European trip, I think I may pick one up myself

There's a popular travel tripod on Amazon that Srika uses. I'm sure he'll chime in soon.

Pretty cheep too.

I do have that one, and I rarely ever use the Manfrotto anymore. This Mefoto is so compact so I can take stowed in my backpack rather than have to lug that Manfrotto around. And it does everything I need it to - sturdy, nice mount, etc. I would recommend a dark color (not orange) tho - cuz if you need to shoot thru windows ever, the orange reflects

There are a good number of similar options out there - I tell everyone who asks me about tripods the same thing, go to a store and see it first-hand as opposed to reading reviews and ordering online. For something like a tripod you just have to try it out in person and get a feel for it, IMO. I first saw it at a camera store and that's where I bought it.

Oh...I actually wanted something really small for table tops, so I can so macro/product type of shots. My Niece has a lizard that is begging for a photo shoot.

I don't mind carrying a full sized tripod when I go out to shoot...yet. But I wanted a mini that can hold decent weight sturdily. (7D plus lens)

I you want a larger but small/lighter tripod, take a look at meFoto. I purchased the second in line tripod to be used by my family members. But I will use it some when shooting my Fuji. For indoor use it might be the perfect thing for you.

Just found "Light Science & Magic" 3rd edition half-read on my bookshelf according to the scrap of paper I was using to keep my place.

Opening this book, I recall it is a bit of a bear but a great resource on lighting things.

the more I look into the MeFoto tripods, the more I'm liking it... I like the middle one, the "Road Trip" model... and it can be converted to a monopod, which is a HUGE +

too bad, there doesn't seem to be any Canadian vendors, and with shipping from the US, it would be waaaaaay more than what I'd want to spend
