first of all, 500px is set up a little different. You can actually sell your photos there, you can't with Flickr. I don't really know how it works, but that's the main difference.
With Flickr, there's also a paid version... or what used to be called the "Pro" account, I think they changed the name, but with the paid account, you get some perks that the free account doesn't have. And, some people won't care for the extra features... I do, and I'm pretty sure Rubin (srika) does too. You get to see your stats
this is mine up to date:
this is today's views so far and yesterday's

here are the sources to where the views are coming from: (within Flickr, Google search, Yahoo Search etc etc, other forums that you may have posted your pics like AZ)

Again, most people probably won't care, but I find it interesting at times when MY photos are coming up in Google searches

Also, it allowed more group sharing than the free accounts (at least back when they had only the free and Pro accounts. For my purposes, that mattered back when I used it more.
Oh, groovy..I just read a bit further down. If you already have an auto-renewing Pro account, you can keep it. They aren't kicking people out, they're just not selling new ones any longer. That's nice. For the unlimited storage, it's probably worth it. I keep a lot of non-public photos on there, too, as additional backups. I should utilize that more.

^Of course, now they're granting that to the free accounts. If free accounts get stat data, too, the storage is really the only reason I see to keep a Pro account. That's kind of obnoxious. For $99/year, I should just add to my external collection. Or upload more to smugmug, which I'm paying for anyway.
Whaaa. I don't like change. That means more decisions!

Any plans to throw film in and use it?
No idea how it works. I'll have to google it.

so... for the 2nd time in less than a month I've been approached by someone random in Flickr, asking me if they can use this particular photo in their website... they have no money to pay and would love it if I allowed them... I don't really care, but I worry that there's more to it than what they're telling me. What do you guys think?
this is the particular photo

"Ken,
Congratulations on the great work. I am a self employed financial planner, building my new website from scratch to promote my services.
I do not have much money to pay for services but I would be glad to refer you clients in exchange for some of your panoramic views of Vancouver.
Please let me know how you feel about this, thank you.

My response to those emails is either "if you wanna use it, here's a link to request licensing through Getty", or I just change the license to be CC and just ask for attribution. Depends if it's a photo I care about giving away or not.
Can you guys recommend a good camera for my dad? He has a rebel xt right now and wants something more portable with a good zoom and big view screen. I'm thinking of one of those hybrid camera's that are in between a p&s and dslr. Up to $350. Mom just dropped this one in my lap.
Thanks

I think I'm going to pull trig on that, if nobody else has a suggestion. The reviews look good for that camera and I don't think my dad needs wifi. He wants something with an awesome zoom so this fits the bill. He's always talking about wanting a Leica like he had way back in the day so he will be pleased with the lens. The little Leica is $699 and only zooms to 200mm.

I'm racking my brain tying to decide how to upgrade from my gf1. I'll keep the gf1 as I love the little thing, but it's low light performance really can get in the way. Especially compared to what's available in m43 cameras today.
I could get
a $750 gx7 and use it with the 14 and 20mm lenses I already have
a $650 g6 with a 14-42 mm ois zoom with $100 to spend on tequila
a ~$350 gx1 dollar with a 14-42 zoom and something nice like a 30mm sigma and $200 to spend on whiskey.
The gx7 and g6 are pretty close in performance, but the form factor of the gx7 has proven to be my favorite. The gx7 also has a 1/8000th shutter and built in image stabilization for my old lenses.
The gx1 doesn't keep up with high iso performance of the others, but it's still a leap from the gf1 and leaves me with quite a bit of buying power.
If anybody would like to tell me what to buy so I can ignore you and make a much stupider decision I would appreciate it.
