Maybe that's why they're testing out that 75 MP camera?

i wonder if canon does bring out something like that and its lesser in price than say a Hassleblad, i wonder if they will drop their prices.

high MP doesn't necessarily means it has to be $$$

but, the only existing Canon camera that was mentioned along with the 75mp one is the 1DX... so it could be around that price range (or higher), if they are making it a pro body.

exactly my thoughts as well. if the 1DX is about 6800 already and canon has shown that they will raise their prices high for just small changes. so from a 18mp to 75mp camera with the same capabilities as a 1DX for sure they will bring it to the 9k or over mark. If the performance is anything remotely close to a medium format, then it would make it a bargain

I don't see the 1Dx ever going that high in MP because traditionally it's a camera with high FPS, there's NO WAY it'll be able to shoot high FPS @75MP. Especially in RAW

I think you're right. I wouldn't even think as far being on the EOS line anymore.

Canon’s Testing a 75MP+ Pro DSLR

by Eric Reagan on July 21, 2013
in Canon

I received word yesterday from a reliable source that a pre-production high resolution Canon DSLR is currently undergoing field testing. The camera is a pro-sized body like the 1D X.
The resolution of the sensor is greater than 75MP.
Wow.
The rear LCD is shockingly high resolution. So is the frame rate, which is possibly greater than the 1D X; however, I don’t know if that’s at full resolution or not. Presumably, the camera has a new processor (or processors) inside to handle the increased resolution and the higher frame rates.
What’s even more interesting is that the source believes that there might be an announcement for this camera prior to the end of 2013; however, availability may not be until next year.
Of course, Canon has tested cameras and technologies before that never made it to the market. And, this seems like such a massive jump in resolution from what is currently on the market.
However, Nikon jumped from the 12MP D700 to the 36MP D800. Tripling Canon’s top cameras at 20+MP resolutions puts us in the ball park of 75MP.
Additionally, Canon has had a 50MP APS-H sensor since at least 2007, and a 120MP APS-H sensor since 2010. A 75MP or higher resolution full frame sensor is not out of the realm of possibility – particularly when we are seeing smartphone cameras at 41MP.

The Canon EOS 1S has been in the rumor mill for some time as a high resolution pro DSLR, albeit prior rumored specs of 47MP-ish. Just because Canon is testing cameras with 75MP+ sensors doesn’t mean that a 47MP sensor won’t end up in the final model.
Likewise, that Canon EOS 3D has been floating around for several years as a rumored high resolution model. Recently, those rumors were revived with possible sightings and claimed specs in the 46MP range.
While I believe that this pre-production camera is in the wild, I’m not ready to proclaim that Canon is going to announce a 75MP+ DSLR this year. I just have a hard time believing Canon will make such a big jump.
If any sources want to chime in with additional details on this or other pre-production models, please reach out via the contact form or email me directly at contact [at] photographybay.com.

I think you may have missed the other tidbit of news on this, they are speculating that the final image will be 25mp, and that the sensor will have 3 color layers, thus 75mp of total color and image information. Kind of similar to Sigma's Foveon X3 sensor (which was kind of a dud, btw). Judging from the performance of Canon's recent offerings, I have no doubt in my mind that if Canon pulls it off it will be quite exceptional.

Have any of you guys ever had a situation where you've changed cameras and then found that one of your lenses is suddenly very "soft"? Compatibility issues?

I had to do AFMA tweaks when moving bodies for my EF-S 17-55 2.8 (across 3 bodies) and the EF 28 1.8. The 70-200 2.8 IS didn't need it.

+1

this might be a bit OT, but last month I bought the Sigma 12-24mm HSM II and when it arrived, I mounted it on one body and took a random shot around the room. It was REALLY soft, I mean I didn't know what was going on... so I went outside where there's plenty of light, took another shot and really wasn't much better. So I decided to manual focus it and it got better. I figured the lens was going to be shipped back. However, I decided to check out the micro adjustment setting and for some weird reason, it was @ 16+ (my cameras can go up to +/- 20)! So, I adjust it down to 0, took a shot and it was perfect. Out of curiosity I mounted on another body didn't bother taking any pics, I just went straight to micro adjustment, and it was @20+!! Took if off mounted on my last body and it was @ -6 Needless to say, setting them all at 0 the lens did just fine.

This was weird because ALL my other lenses (bought new or used) are default @ 0

When I bought in 2011 it was $152

Gitzo's are on sale and the rebate was $200 for the one I ordered. It's lighter and stronger and I'll probably never have to buy another tripod.

I'm super excited for it.

And about the weight, it gets cumbersome when you have to carry it through mountain trails and such, which is what I mostly was using it for when I went to NC.

FWIW I love my 190CXPRO4 which I've had for 4 years. It's been through hell and back and other than a number of scuffs, nothing has broken. There are times I pick it up and just have to smile at how nice and lightweight it is. My tripod brings me happiness.

my I'm keeping my older Manfrotto 190 from the 80's, and yeah, that thing's gone through a lot too. I bought used and already had scuffs, so I don't feel bad when I get more scratches on it. Initially, I was going to sell it after picking up the 055XPROB, but I decided that I'm going to keep it for now

I don't have big arms (like Ken) and I have 055xprob, and it is on the 'bulky' side but I wouldn't call it "heavy".

Heavy is a bag with 3 bodies, 5 lenses, flash, Quantum Turbo 3, and batteries etc in it.
