Looks like the parts catalog is leaking some potential upgrades to the next Performance, including what looks like a Ludicrous badge, new Warp wheels, and "sport" brakes. No word on what upgrades will be made to the drivetrain, but lots of rumors claiming closer to 700hp. The current model is rated closer to 450, though they've put down as much as 520 at the wheels.

$39k does make it more appealing. Not sure what the prior base 3 MSRP was, but a tarted up Civic Touring is $33k and a loaded Accord Hybrid is $43k, to pluck a couple 'alternatives'

^ It would be even cheaper, you still get at least $3750 in tax incentives if not more. I'm not sure where they stand on that today.

The price is unchanged. What is changed is that the 3 Standard and 3 Long Range do not qualify for the EV tax credit at all - not even the $3750 credit. The 3 Performance is still listed as qualifying for the full $7500 though.
I fully expect there to be additional price drops later this year/early 2025 to combat the effects of losing that credit.

Tesla released the new Performance variant today. 0-60 in 2.9s. 296 mile range (17 miles less than the previous model, likely due to the wide wheels/tires). Starts at $52,990 not including the $7500 fed incentive that it qualifies for. It actually works out to be cheaper than the Long Range model thanks to the federal incentive, and just $2k more than the base rear wheel drive model. Bizarre.

Most Powerful Model 3 Yet
The latest generation performance drive unit - Performance 4DU - unlocks more torque, power and better efficiency. Compared to the previous Model 3 Performance drive unit, the Performance 4DU can deliver up to +22% continuous power, +32% peak power, and +16% peak torque delivery. Behind the wheel, drivers will sense more immediate and sustained acceleration out of corners. That's the beauty of more torque!
These performance improvements have been achieved without sacrificing efficiency. In fact, Tesla are seeing about 2% reduction in energy consumption compared to the previous generation Model 3 Performance.
This extra performance is transferred to the road via forged and staggered 20" wheels with Tesla-specific Pirelli P ZERO 4 performance tires. This staggered wheel fitment has several knock-on effects, including:

Love it. The Tesla red is always really pretty in person. Also love that they are finally differentiating the car compared to more plebeian Model 3's with new body and seats. Still needs a HUD or a gauge cluster though...

I'd be tempted to trade for one if Tesla hadn't tanked resale on the 3 by dropping prices so drastically.

Tesla is again the range king in the EV mid-size sedan segment, with the Model 3 Long Range RWD capable of driving 363 miles on a charge. However, the new Model 3 variant makes the headlines for another reason: when factoring in the $7,500 federal tax credit, it retails for $34,990, turning the $35,000 Tesla dream into reality.
Before launching the Model 3 in 2017, Tesla promised the new model would become the most affordable electric vehicle, selling for $35,000. The dream of a $35,000 Model 3 didn't pan out, even though Tesla introduced such a Model 3 variant in 2019. The Model 3 Standard Range, with 220 miles of range and a price tag of $35,000, was only available for two months before Tesla scrapped it. Technically, Tesla fulfilled the $35,000 promise, but the low volume and the short available period made it insignificant.
Well, Tesla just launched what counts as a $35,000 EV, and it's again a Model 3. However, this time it's not a crippled RWD variant with 220 miles (354 km) of range. Instead, Tesla brought back the once-popular Model 3 Long Range RWD model, which in this iteration can drive up to 363 miles (584 km) on a charge. Although the starting price is $42,490, the new Model 3 variant is eligible for the EV tax credit. Qualifying buyers can get it for $34,990, $4,000 cheaper than the Model 3 RWD, which starts at $38,990 with an LFP battery pack.
The 363 miles of range puts the Tesla Model 3 LR RWD ahead of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 (361 miles/581 km), thus becoming the longest-range electric car in the mid-size sedan segment. This is an impressive achievement for Tesla, which saw its electric vehicles surpassed in their respective segments by longer-range competitors. With the Model 3 LR RWD, Tesla makes a powerful comeback.
The new variant, the fourth in the Model 3 lineup, still offers a 4.9-second acceleration time (0-60 mph/0-97 kph). The top speed is 125 mph (201 kph), the same across the Model 3 lineup with the exception of the Model 3 Performance (163 mph/262 kph). Performance and price make the new model the best value Tesla on sale.
Not only is the Model 3 LR RWD one of the longest-range EVs in Tesla's portfolio (surpassed only by the Model S, with 402 miles/647 km), but it's also the most affordable.
