R/D at Newport Beach

Ok boys just got back from Irvine. Here's a brief summary of the days events. I need to go out to dinner with my lady so I will finish up later.

The TL can not play DVD movies while in park.
Tire pressure monitor is not available on the 04TL.
65,000 units will go into production for model year 04.
AT-1/4 mile 15.01sec@ 99mph 0-60 6.60 sec
6spd-1/4 mile 14.88sec@ 100.8mph 0-60 6.37 sec
direct competition for the TL are ...
BMW 330I
Lexus ES 300
Infiniti G35
Audi A6 3.0
MB C320
Bluetooth...phone must have bluetooth AND hands-free profile to work with the car. You may store up to 50 pre set numbers in the cars phone book.
car has Auto lock and unlock when car goes into gear. It's programmable by the keyless link system.

Do not order your TL with the HPT option. You have to wait for the 18" whls...because they are SICK. The areo kit and rims looks like the FP package on the concept Accord coupe 6mt. The yellow car on the Hondanews web site.

Hi Justin

Those time you quoted, are they official from Acura or your own test ?? Also, out of the 65,000 how many are manual?
Finally , did you see a Spec A? Can you describe the steering wheel.? Thanks

I'm assuming this is what the kit and looks like.

I like the wheels. I'll pass on the kit. It's going to be a VERY hard choice between these wheels and the ones I've picked out.

Thanks Justin!

Man, I thought itll be a little faster then that...I guess its ok though, i wont notice those little half seconds. I WISH IT PLAYED DVDs THOUGH. These little creature comforts are what can really distinguish a car from the rest of the pack.

blech! That aero kit is nasty, I can't believe Acura would offer something like that.

As for the writeup, I know you're busy Justin, but not a single comment about the ride and handling??

....just string us along. :P

the 18" whls are not chromed. They are a split 5 spoke gun metal finish. The kit looks very nice on the TL.

I drove the G35, 330I, ES300 and TL back to back.
The interior of the TL is awesome. Everything about it speaks up scale. It totally destroys the G35 interior. The seats are very supportive and the leather is soft to the touch. The audio system is top notch...it puts the TSX audio to shame...im sad to say. All TLs will come with a DVD-A disk when you buy the car. the fog light switch is located where the headlight switch is. The fog lights come standard on the TL its right next to the headlights. Fog lights can not be installed at a later time because there is a cold air intake located by the drivers side air dam.

It was during the day so I didn't see it but according to my book it says the steering whl controls are illuminated.

The climate control is a dual zone and dual mode system.

Both outside mirrors have reverse tilt down features.

my woman's house does not have a scanner so I can't scan the pics. So I will have to do it tomorrow. I also have the Tl accessories guide which I will scan tomorrow.

As for the R/D itself the car is awesome. It just wants to GO. I will write a detail report on it tomorrow.

The TSX is nice but the TL is playing in a different league.

There were no blue TLs there so I don't know what the color looks like.

The TL can hang with the TSX on the back roads no doubt in my mind. On the freeways its no contest. Bascially the TL is the TSX on steriods. Price I have no clue. The tranny has been redesign for the 04TL what ever that is suppose to mean.

The G35 has a slight edge on the hard turns as far as handling goes. But most of you will not drive the cars like we did today. As soon as you step inside the TL again its no contest between this and the G35.

However the TL-S feels now...the 04TL is better. Quieter, less body roll, more power, better handling and much more upscale.

IMO you guys should NOT get the HPT option for the 6mt. The 18" just looks SO much better.

hey Justin, thanks for the info. My question again was regarding the special steering wheel for the Spec A. How different is it from the standar wheel?

They did not have an A-spec tuned car there. Just a 6mt with 18" whls and a body kit with a deck lid spoiler.

those offical times seem a bit slow, how come the new TL stick cant keep up with a CL-S 6speed when it was more hp, more torque, and virtually the same weight?

So the A-Spec could be a whole diff kit with diff rims..

BTW how does a deck lid spoiler look? Does it look better than a normal spoiler as I assumed?

So I guess you could not comment on the handling for the A Spec car. Do you know when are they are going to be ready ? I am in the market NOW and I am almost ready to get a G35, but as most other people, I hate the interior.

Justin-

Does it have the hump in the center of the back seat floor?
How many power positions does the passenger seat have?
Do it have adaptive cruise control?

If some of these questions were answered in the past, please forgive me!

Wow, sounds pretty exciting.

So much for the 2004 mandate of a tire pressure monitoring system, again.....

I wonder is the gray rims are like the optional 17x7's for the TSX?

Did you really have a chance to work the 6MT? Will it chirp 3rd?

Did the MID show instant econ, avg econ and avg speed?

How were the brakes on the 6MT, as far as fade is concerned?

Thanks again for sharing!

OK - I am a bit confused so forgive me for asking for clarification regarding your statment. I thought the HPT option included 18" wheels & performance tires, stiffer suspension, etc. - or is that the Spec A package? Is the 18" s a stand alone upgrade?

And as always, thanks for all of the info you have been providing.

I'd be amazed if he checked for that. That one might require a trip to your local Acura dealer when the car arrives in showrooms.

The HPT option does not include 18" wheels. It includes 17" wheels and performance tires.

A-Spec offers the 18" wheels, performance tires, stiffer suspension, badging and different steering wheel.

The 18s, from my understanding, will be an optional upgrade.

Justin, did you notice how much XM radio information was supplied on the non-Nav screen? Did the screen simply indicate the XM channel with symbols like "XM-73" or did it include additional data such as the song title and artist?

Manufactuer's claims are always very conservtaive. I'd expect the 6MT to get to 60 in under 6.0 sec and even quicker through the 1/4 mile. After all, the G35 6MT goes to 60 in 5.8 or 5.9 if I'm not mistaken.

The TSX is nice but the TL is playing in a different league.
I don't appreciate this comment

The TL can hang with the TSX on the back roads no doubt in my mind.
We'll see, but the TL will need 18's and summer tires to do it

Even though he said that, it should be in a differant league for those who are going to pay 5-7K more on a car

Justin we need some more picts! Im going to have to see the gun-metal rims on the car first--I think the chromes would look better on some colors, but you were the one to see them with your eyes!! Wake up--you have slept long enough

Does this mean that high/low beams are handled like the g35 head light set up, or is the high/low beam comming from the projector? Only reason I ask is because I would want to have the fogs and park lights on if posible...I like that look.
