Wow, I didn't realise they were so close in size. This new TL is going to be hot and I'm glad it drives like a slightly larger, more powerful TSX. Wish I could afford both now.

The TSX is a smaller car than the Accord, it sits on a smaller platform...the weight distribution is already at 60/40 with the I4. The TL with its longer platform can balance out the heavier V6 and the weight distribution for the MT is 60/40. Also keep in mind the TL has one feature the TSX does not have with the MT...LSD. That will help the TL in the handling department. The TL will not out handle the TSX but its a close call.

TSX hp to weight ratio-16.15lbs
TL hp to weight ratio-12.83lbs

What is the one complain with the TSX? Power. The TL answers that complain in spades. The 04TL has very little similiarites with how the 03TL drives. I guess if we look at the 03TL as a ship...then its a Cruise ship where the 04 is a US Destroyer. The 03 you get in and just want to get to point B the fastest way possible. The 04 you get in and want to take the byways instead of the freeways.

Think of the TSX with a V6 and 270hp...thats your TL. Even the drs close with the same sound. The TSX is the clean cut brother where the TL is your rebel.

So what is the big difference in taking 87 octance or 93 octane?

Is it that big of a deal.. Can you notice a difference?

Can you start using 87 when you buy the car or is that bad?

also is it alright if I change 93 sometimes and than 89 sometimes and than 87 other times.

Most modern engine computers will adjust the timing to prevent preignition or pinging, at the cost of reduced power. I can't see buying a performance car and not feeding it premium though!

but what actually does higher octane do, like how do the chemicals work, is it like putting NOS in your car?

Also will varying octane levels fik up the car in the long run?

Justin,

What was your impression of the black TL? Do you feel that the black hides the lines of the TL too much? Any pics of the black TL that you can post after you have some time with a scanner?

I was wondering since can the Accord make the windows go up and down with the remote and open and close moonroof with remote? or is that a TL only feature.. I know on accord they go down..

There are pics of the car in page 6 of this thread. I have been at work so no time with the scanner. The black do hide the lines too much in the TL. I prefer the lighter colors, I think SS and the whites will look best with the car.

"Preignition: the ignition of fuel in an internal-combustion engine before the spark passes through the fuel, resulting from a hot spot in the cylinder or from too great a compression ratio for the fuel."

Higher octane fuel has additives (hence higher cost) that make it less volatile to prevent preignition.

I don't think varying the octane level would hurt the engine. I would stick to major brands of fuel though. Other additives help keep the fuel system, including the injectors, clean.

BTW, there is NO advantage to using premium in a car designed for regular, unless that car is pinging.

Justin, compare the Brembos on the 6MT to the stock brakes on the 5AT for us please.

I'm pretty sure that's my final request. Only three weeks before the TL goes on sale. I can't wait!

I saw a question on edmunds. Can you record music on DVD and have it read in the sound system. This would give a large storage ability.

I've been digging around trying to find an answer to this. It would be cool to be able to burn MP3 to DVD without having to do a CD type conversion. I'll let you know if I come up with anything.

Acura also says that the TL will not play DVD-R/RW Media. I wonder if it will be able to apply DVD+R/RW Media. My multi-format burner will come in handy if it can.

I was crying over why the new TL does not have MP3 CD Player, but if the TL can play normal MP3's converted to CD format than put on a DVD, thats like MP3 CD only with greater quality sound, maybe when Acura said they didn't put MP3 CD because there is too much technology, they were right

A DVD holds more than six times the data of a CD, so even if it was recorded at regular CD-Audio level (not the compression of mp3's), a single DVD disc could hold over eight hours of music.

I haven't heard anything about that, though, and I somewhat doubt the software will be in place for that. Instead, what's the DVD-A audio format? I'm guessing it's just one or two hours of 5.1 channel sound? Still, a regular movie dvd often has eight hours of audio or so, with a few movie-length tracks in 5.1 Dolby Digital and a few in stereo (director's commentary, etc.)

It won't play MP3's, but maybe there is a way to create DVD-A format discs from MP3 or CD source? I wonder what the DVD-A format look like?

I forgot to write down the numbers but I think there was a 8' distance in stopping the car from the same rate of speed.

If the engine computer adjusts the timing to prevent pinging regular fuel won't hurt the engine. If you don't hear pinging while climbing a hill (engine under load) while using regular you are probably fine.

I just did some investigation. It looks like it can be done with a little effort, and probably a few DVD coasters. The tools aren't all that popular yet because DVD Audio hasn't gone mainstream. So far, I know that MP3s need to be converted to PCM, WAV or MPEG before being burned on the DVD. I think a blank video track needs to included as well.

I'm not sure if it will be possible to get 100s of songs on to a DVD, maybe a 100+. I'll keep digging around on this one.

I certainly agree with that! Unfortunately Acura has decided to not include support for the MP3 format. Of course a software upgrade could probably solve that problem.

-r

Edit: I'd actually rather have MP3 support than 5.1.

Thank you, I like it too!

I like all the colors interior and exterior on the TL, Even Gold isn't all that bad

I just wonder if you can take the black front indicator cover out and make it whitish or a diff color, would look cool on white to have white covers

2004TL, octane is the measurment of carbon atoms in the hydrocarbon gasoline that are not in a straight chain. In 93, it is 93%, 89 it is 89%, etc. It is easier for an engine to digest the hydrocarbon when not in a straight chain

I knew the TL would look good white. For some reason white always complements the lines of Acuras cars. The TSX also looks good in white IMHO.

As for the gold color, I'm sorry but it is nasty. It reminds me of a color some 60 year old couple would choose. Honda seems to love it though....they use it on the Accord, Odyssey, TL, etc.

Yes, that is true, if the engine computer can optimize the timing when using the higher octane fuel. I would think that most cars that specify regular fuel can't do that. But there is often an exception. I've heard that the Accord V6 can?

I read an article in the infamous Consumer Report monthly that quoted some fuel expert from a major fuel company who said that there is no damage done to a car that is built for premium fuel. In fact, he drove a high performance car himself that he used regular fuel on. He did state there is very minor drop in performance probably undectable to most drivers. FWIW (for what it's worth).
